This release is missing essential features as reported by many in the Sonos community pages. It also runs much slower than before. @Sonos, please do the right thing by your loyal customers and roll back to the previous version until it is release ready. We are not beta testers.
The performance of the new app is a joke. It is so slow and buggy. Literally takes a second or two to respond to adding or removing a speaker to what is playing. Also, once a song starts playing, it never shows the song and artist on the card. Mine is always blank. No way to tell what is playing without going back to the song list. I am now on RUclips figuring out a way to play on all of my Sonos speakers through the Spotify app. I have a few speakers that don't have Airplay built in so can't play to those speakers without the app. I am ready to leave the Sonos app for good!
The new Sonos app is unfortunately at least 2 steps backwards … sorry guys but in almost 15 years it’s the first time I think about to change out the system completely. Means 20 speakers . - slow - unreliable - system hangs often - does not react on commandos - running music in rooms - does not show in the app - volume control does not work Something must happen. What happen to the developers.
i had a great wakeup alarm set up with the old app but i can’t access it anymore or change anything really. its awful how they took something that wasn’t broken, tried to fix it, and made it shit. i’ve already been late for things a few times since they changed it.
Did they actually test this? With a user group? How about sacking the product manager? SONOS please roll back this app - it's not ready AKA it's garbage. All I wanted to do was queue the next track... Failed!
Thanks Sonos for completely changing the app so my 75 year old father has absolutely no idea how to use, so now I get to go over and teach him an entirely new way to use his speakers.
You are definitly kiding us! You release a new app, but missing the MOST IMPORTANT features. Where is the alarm? And where is the sleep timer? You basicly destroyed any usecase of my system!
Promising, but not ready for now. Please give us back: sleep timers, alarms and a possibility to add or remove songs from the queue. If it is not possible to do it in the next days, please put the old app back as an optional download till you're ready with those features.
This app update is absolute trash! 17 different ways to look at the same info but basic functionality has been removed. Sleep timers, alarms, even the numerical value of the freaking volume!?! Why would any of these things be removed? It doesn't matter how "ambitious" you're trying to be - you DO NOT REMOVE FUNCTIONALITY!!! Pull the app, reinstate the previous version.
This really sucks, dont they have a test team at sonos? I want sonos to give me a full refund on the stuff i have for about 3500 euro. Where can i send this rubbish to?
I bought two, sigh. My son, a tech wizard, spent an hour doing the most basic set up. His iPhone couldn't do it so he used my android to do the basics. Thinking of returning this entire expensive mess.
Welcome to the Sonos customer experience. You can probably still get a refund. I’d recommend getting your money back and avoiding the never ending regret of being a Sonos customer.
I feel Sonos needs to put out a statement immediately about how to they plan to fix this release and it can't be "wait a few weeks". Put out a statement that speaks directly to what features you plan to BRING BACK and which ones you aren't because right now users have to assume you have shifted your focus from users being able to curate their own playlists and music to just subscribing to a streaming services and letting it choose. Frankly, a nice bluetooth speaker, an old phone, and youtube music or apple music have better features than the Sonos experience. Personally, I wouldn't be upset if I knew this was coming and could prepare (i.e. not download the app).
Or you don't have a system for two days and rather than enjoying the music, you have steam coming out of your ears because of the outright anger at this absolute terrible "update"
If on android you can avoid automatic update by turning 'automatic updates' off on the play store. If you dont and you roll back to s2 16.0 it will update to 80.0 when you are not looking. I will not use s2 80.0 until they sort out the essential things it is missing like searching your own music library and playing a sonos playlist
We appreciate your feedback. Would you mind telling us more information on this feature request so we can relay this back to our Product team? You can find more details on feature updates and enhancements in development here: bit.ly/4atNKiv
Same problem here. I dont think you can, unless you have a pc version. I have rolled back to s2 16.1 i found it on apk mirror mentioned in another community forum. However it automatically updated back to s2 80.0 Even though i have turned off automatic updates.
After some hesitation, I bought a Denon HEOS device (RCD-N12). Cheaper than a Sonos AMP which I was also considering, plenty of power, great sound, also has HDMI ARC, looks better, has a nice display, comes with a great remote, lots more features (CD drive, FM/DAB+, Phono input, Bluetooth in/out). Needed to install "MinimServer" on the NAS and apply some MP3Tag changes (clear 'Album' and "Track#" tag for "misc" folders), but that was all easy + free, my experience is now for the most part better than it ever was with Sonos. Library rescan now takes 10-20 seconds (happens internally on the NAS) instead of 15-30 minutes (a gazillion network calls over Wifi).
Ever since I upgraded I can’t add my speakers to the app. I have an ark beam 2 300s and 2 subs that I cant use at all because it keeps saying Sonos needs local network access when it’s already enabled and I can’t get any further than that screen. Over 3000$ in speakers that I can’t use please fix. I’m also a salesperson FOR your speakers so this is not a good look.

Still works on Android - but they've irritatingly removed the numerical volume indicator, which is what I always looked at as I know what volumes I like for my various rooms/scenarios. The app is definitely a step backwards.

WTF That's a bad joke. I don't buy a car and after the software update I no longer have a horn, lights or engine. That's the best way to annoy your customers and drive them to a competitor. A new app is OK, BUT it has to be fully programmed and not as an alpha. Is the motto: Let's see how many people will be pissed off?
Bugs here and there I get but this is a disaster!!!! I’ve had sonos 10 years and have loved it. This new update is the worst update ever released! I HATE every single thing about this new app!!! Fire the clown that “designed” this, apologize and go back to the app before.
The latest "upgrade?" is a disaster. Most of the time it will not open to the player. It tells me it cannot find my system. Screwing around and many attempts later, it will start. This is a perfect example of the lack of beta testing. Hours spent on hold waiting for support make things very frustrating. PLEASE make this work every time I open the app.
Hi Thomas, here is a support article on how to set and manage your alarms via the new Sonos app. Hope this is helpful: support.sonos.com/article/set-an-alarm-on-sonos
Reported this video as misinformation. It starts by saying the Sonos app will give you complete control. That is inherently false since the app won’t control the speakers.
Hey guys, I know youre getting a lot of hate right now, but I just wanted to say THANK YOU for turning my $2,000 speaker system into a bunch of pretty paperweights. It took some time, but I actually really enjoy the new feature of them not working! It's grown on me, and I think it will for the rest of the community. Don't ever stop Sonos-ing!
Yesterday I installed the new update. I like the new app look, but now I can't access the alarm feature. Oddly enough, it is still an active component. The alarm was one of my favorite discoveries from the old app layout. However, today the alarm went off when I didn't want it to. How do we access and edit alarms now??
Thank you Sonos for making my system mute by forcing an upgrade and now I can’t access a simple TV. I did enjoy watch a smug guy talk about how simple it is to do stuff, except for the basics, which no longer function.
The latest version of the Sonos app is our most ambitious software update yet, and we know there is still more work to be done. To ensure all features meet the standards of our listeners, certain functionalities will not be available at this time, but will return in a future update. We appreciate your patience as we make future improvements.
@sonos ok but how come you didn't notice the missing functionalities of the update before releasing it to the public? If so many regular users report issues with the update how come your beta testing phase succeeded? Releasing the unfinished update doesn't meet the standards of your listeners. Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of yours and I love the whole update concept but you really messed up - the app is not ready to be released.
@sonos why release the app now if it’s not ready? I doesn’t make any sense. Whatever the reason, this approach is not working for your valuable customers. So once again, please do the smart thing and roll back to the old version so you can get the new one right. It might seem like a step back, but you would be doing the right thing, whereas making your customers wait months for old features to be available again is not.
If they keep going, you don't have any listeners anymore dear Sonos! Rollback the older app and get testing internal with this so called new version, it is not ready!!!
Sorry, I hate the new app - so many things are missing that I used to use all the time - most irritatingly I apparently can't add tracks to the current playlist whilst it is playing, there is no longer a numerical volume indicator when changing volume, and I can't control my alarms from the app anymore. The layout is also confusing and excessively layered and there is a lot of wasted screen real-estate. This seems extremely half-baked and it's very disappointing from a premium brand like Sonos.
Additional, I've now discovered I can't control the speakers on my Pixel watch anymore - with the old app as long as it was running on my phone I could skip tracks, pause, play and adjust volume from my watch - no longer. This is just a disaster release for Sonos, IMO.
Installed the new app on my iPad and iPhone , now I can’t see my music library. Spoke to Sonos they said use a desktop ! Please sort this out, or go back to the old version or better still have two versions available until this mess is sorted.
app is terrible, full of bugs and missing basic features like alarm and being able to listen to your own music library. Total disaster, don't update to it, you will NOT be able to use your system if you do, SHOCKING and needs to be pulled
Update 80.03.04 (Android): SYSTEM ISN'T WORKING AT ALL ANY MORE SONOS, STOP THAT NIGHTMARE. YOUR NEW APP IS ABSOLUTE TRASH, YOU WILL NEVER FIX ALL THESE ISSUES. DO A ROLLBACK!!!
Epic FAIL by Sonos yet again on attempting to completely change their app UI. 10+ years ago they did this and failed miserably then until they thankfully reverted to the older version. The new app sucks, fire the developers on this project and bring back the old version.
What is the point of gradually reimplementing all the missing features if the app (June Version 80.02) still doesn't work? Terrible performance with up to 10 seconds delay (volume, playlist, startup, etc.), components constantly crashing out of the system (stopping only possible via hardware buttons), app freezes, TuneIn still very buggy with numerous contents not accessible, NAS integration still not possible, wake-up radio station disappearing from the system, no volume indicator, no widgets, no control via lock screen, no control via status bar (despite enabled notifications), and much more... Sonos, please finally provide your customers with a rollback to the old S2!
Absolutely rubbish App! What did you think you were doing? My system is so hard to use now!! Can’t even find out how to create a playlist!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 This App is aimed at streaming services, which I refuse to use, I have a ton of music on my NAS, where do I go from here!🙄🙄🙄🤬🤬🤬
When you have all your Speakers showing up and you want to slide them down, you need to slide down FROM ALL THE WAY UP! So annoying... Can't do it easily with one hand!
Well done 👍 Sonos, another huge failure. The update is total garbage as usual. Your incompetence is mind-boggling. Did your intern design this update? I hope there’s a class action lawsuit.
Are you sponsored by Sonos? You're ignoring the retrograde steps that stop us muting rooms, searching our own Music Library, setting (and perhaps more importantly overriding existing), alarms...this is the worst App update they've ever released...and your hat looks silly indoors btw
This is the absolute worst app I have ever used. Customer for 8 years with 7 rooms wires for sound as well as all surround system. Totally useless if you want to play music in different rooms. Complete trash of an app. When I upgrade my system I will Never spend a dime with Sonos again.
How can I access my library? Please do a better quality control on the App before releasing. As a suggestion, release it as a beta first. Has anyone got the library from the network working?
Aside from the missing features and bugs, the interface is more complicated than it ever was. Extra swipes and button presses for no reason other than aesthetics. I liked that all my services were separated so could easily tell which I was using. EQ settings are now 3 button presses . The tile at the bottom uses up precious screen real estate making the rest of the interface cramped and cluttered. I just don’t like anything about it.
I own a software company - I’ve been running software teams for 30 years - if somebody put this beta app in front of me said it was ready for prime time - I would’ve fired them on the spot - are you guys serious?
I just bought my Sonos move 2 speaker and wondering how the alarm works? More precisely will it start when speaker is turned off? Or how to ensure that alarm will start every morning?
I use Sonos at my house and at a restaurant I manage. This new version is hands down the worst interface I have ever used for music. Whoever designed this is in the wrong business and needs to find a new field to work in.
There is a workaround! I updated the app on my phone and messed up my system, but my S2 app on the iPad still has full functionality on the same Sonos system. Bad decision on Sonos's part to roll out the new update like this, an optional S3 app would have been a much better option.

That's a bad joke. I don't buy a car and after the software update I no longer have a horn, lights or engine. That's the best way to annoy your customers and drive them to a competitor. A new app is OK, BUT it has to be fully programmed and not as an alpha. Is the motto: Let's see how many people will be pissed off?
I'm amazed how anyone could approve this update. It's missing the core features... We should be thankful that the music is playing, right? :D
A music playing app that doesn't let you edit or even clear the queue. What a joke this update is. If you haven't updated already, DON'T UPDATE!
Please tell me how I can modify my 6:00 AM alarm that I can no longer edit. I don't want to unplug the speaker as my only option.
Hi Thomas, here is a support article on how to set and manage your alarms via the new Sonos app. Hope this is helpful: support.sonos.com/article/set-an-alarm-on-sonos
@@sonos I’m sorry, but you’re being deliberately obtuse. The website you linked to even says “this feature is currently not available in the app”.
How to use the app. Step 1: You don’t.
Reported this video as misinformation. It starts by saying the Sonos app will give you complete control. That is inherently false since the app won’t control the speakers.
the new release is garbage DOT NOT UPDATE
Hey guys, I know youre getting a lot of hate right now, but I just wanted to say THANK YOU for turning my $2,000 speaker system into a bunch of pretty paperweights. It took some time, but I actually really enjoy the new feature of them not working! It's grown on me, and I think it will for the rest of the community. Don't ever stop Sonos-ing!
At least this way you don't have to worry about any annoying feedback
what a disgrace of an app, disgsting update
Yesterday I installed the new update. I like the new app look, but now I can't access the alarm feature. Oddly enough, it is still an active component. The alarm was one of my favorite discoveries from the old app layout. However, today the alarm went off when I didn't want it to. How do we access and edit alarms now??
Thank you Sonos for making my system mute by forcing an upgrade and now I can’t access a simple TV. I did enjoy watch a smug guy talk about how simple it is to do stuff, except for the basics, which no longer function.
terrible update, missing key features (alarm, volume, playlist), give us the old app back and work on the new one again and again !!
Stop gaslighting. "ensure quality" Then roll it back until it is ready @@sonos
Awful awful awful!! Where are my playlists, my downloaded albums etc. definitely a step backwards not an improvement!!!
Where arę ALARMS? 2:44 min see in You iPhone???
Installed the new app on my iPad and iPhone , now I can’t see my music library. Spoke to Sonos they said use a desktop ! Please sort this out, or go back to the old version or better still have two versions available until this mess is sorted.
DO NOT UPDATE! MAJOR LOSS OF FUNCTIONALITY!! JUST LOOKS ‘PRETTY’!!
Without internet it’s unless to do anything, but the UI looks clean, we need update to make the function of the old app to exist in this 🇬🇭 thanks
You dont need internet just wireless.
But at the moment thet have made a total mess of the controller app
app is terrible, full of bugs and missing basic features like alarm and being able to listen to your own music library. Total disaster, don't update to it, you will NOT be able to use your system if you do, SHOCKING and needs to be pulled
Update 80.03.04 (Android):
SYSTEM ISN'T WORKING AT ALL ANY MORE
SONOS, STOP THAT NIGHTMARE.
I want to play the mp3 files on my phone. HOW?
Can I legally refund the whole system, when I can't use it because of the app?
Can’t even find out how to create a playlist!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
This App is aimed at streaming services, which I refuse to use, I have a ton of music on my NAS, where do I go from here!🙄🙄🙄🤬🤬🤬
When you have all your Speakers showing up and you want to slide them down, you need to slide down FROM ALL THE WAY UP!
When I upgrade my system I will
Never spend a dime with Sonos again.
Thanks random hobo for explaining this pos app to us.
I just bought my Sonos move 2 speaker and wondering how the alarm works? More precisely will it start when speaker is turned off?
Or how to ensure that alarm will start every morning?
Do not upgrade your app to this version - it’s terrible.
No alarm function.
Avoid.
This is the single worst update I've ever seen.
I use Sonos at my house and at a restaurant I manage. This new version is hands down the worst interface I have ever used for music. Whoever designed this is in the wrong business and needs to find a new field to work in.
Takes a lot of courage to ship an app this awful
This is app is a joke. Please make the old app available on iOS
There is a workaround! I updated the app on my phone and messed up my system, but my S2 app on the iPad still has full functionality on the same Sonos system. Bad decision on Sonos's part to roll out the new update like this, an optional S3 app would have been a much better option.
Sonos now also uses customers as beta testers for their app! 😖
Is completely broken, true play tuning doesn’t start, sometimes app doesn’t show speakers, and very buggy overall.
Does anybody else's sonos system constantly disappear from the app?
Why is it stopping suddenly or skipping tracks, or not loading the interface at all?
Terrible update. Almost makes the APP. unusable.
Why do tech companies make matters worse with an update? They are tech companies. How can they continuously make these mistakes
