KISS in the 70's was Fresh, Original, In your face, Loud & HEAVY! Their MUSIC (I'm not talking about the visuals) was easily in the top ten of Heavy Rock bands in the 70's. Personally, I LOVED the visuals but, I think it held them back with a lot of music fans & critics. For whatever reason, a lot of fans were turned off by the visuals & refused to give their music a fair listen.... & the original KISS was BY FAR the best KISS.
As a kid, the makeup caught my attention to listen. As a teenager, it taught me how to play full songs with leads. As an adult, I appreciate that live sound from the 70's more than ever and appreciate Ace as an influence still in my life. Paul laid down great rhythm to allow the space for Ace to feel it out. The four had the magic. Thank god for the band Classic 78 for giving us some modern sounding Kiss influenced song writing today.
Ace in the 70's was one of the greats. He had such a major influence on a lot of us future guitarists growing up back then. He was dynamic, awesome to watch on stage and you could see he felt every note he plucked. That's a real guitar player...it doesn't have to be perfection....it has to be from the heart....and ACE was all that!
I love Ace's playing from this era...he was and is EXTREMELY influential and that cannot be denied. What he brought was a stinging, sustaining lead tone, incredible feel and key repetition of basic sequences injected into licks he ripped from his influences.....and his most natural attribute to me was his incredible vibrato. Fantastic vibrato. You can always tell a natural player by their vibrato. Ace's vibrato is stunning, and he used it well.
Bigger than Taylor swift then! I was 15 in 1976 when I saw them! Talk about loud and right in your face! Holy crap! I had the pleasure of seeing them in 77,78 also! The big years!
Name another Lead Guitar Player who could play like that while writhing around and making crazy gestures without missing a note! Nobody was more visually dynamic while playing and doing it in costume with explosions and the spectacle that was a KISS SHOW! Ace WAS KISS! Ace was never going to sit on a chair and play!

How many of you "Army" vets instantly recognize each classic from the first couple of Ace notes? That right hand, man ..Firehouse...Deuce...She . Black Diamond...Cold Gin...NEVER be another KISS. 70's were AWESOME!!! Great time to grow up. Them Stones Zep were my favorites as a kid then. So crazy to think 2 of them still at it into MY 60s
Man, KISS in ‘75, at their absolute best, completely still a united front in spite of the differences of character, some of the best rock has to offer. Ace was my first influence to pick up a guitar and KISS the first band that inspired me to start up a band. Cheers Ace!
KISS was awesome in the 70s, and Ace was a great rock guitar player. He had style and no matter how fast you are you can’t learn that. He had feel and emotion in his playing and we might not have had Dimebag, John 5, Jerry Cantrell, or countless other guitarists if it wasn’t for his inspiration.
This illustrates how much of a driving factor Ace was in the band. In my opinion this is when the band was one for all and all for one. They were simply playing great and Ace’s solos were so original and so memorable. Nothing beats the original.
All Ace haters need to see this. KISS would have never MADE IT without Ace. His prowess is constantly criticized in 2024. Yes Tommy and Bruce were good, but I AM one of those kids that bought the albums that made them rich and famous. Without Ace, I would not have been a fan.
Ace was the heart of that band. None of the other members had his swagger and style. Gene turned out to be an asshole and Paul meh… Peter just got screwed. Ace still has it.

When I asked if she was a fan, she said that she loved em when she was young, and still likes the music, but as a mature woman, she couldn't get with the lyrics. 😂 Ace rocks. I had to edit to mention that I was not aware anyone was pointing a camera at Ace when he was wailing. I saw a interview he did and he commented about the fact that in the videos when he was soloing they always showed Paul prancing around. He was right and should have gotten his mug time. Especially during his solos.
