It was nice to hear someone talking about our cars without ripping the cars to bits. These cars are my era . The best !

This Westminster sounds the nuts and in the past we have raced loads of big farinas and My brother still has a mint A99 and two 3 litre vanden plas which have both been nut and bolt restored he also has many for breaking which helps keep many on the roads

I know it was 7 years ago but nice car! Hope it’s still running around in as good condition. I have a 1961 A99 manual, 3 on the tree, with Borg Warner overdrive, painted dash.

Lovely sound of the Austin 'Big Six'. Sounds smooth, powerful and purposeful. Gorgeous Dash board and instruments. This revives childhood memories of my Dad's Austin Cambridge estate of the same vintage. It's so true that you can still smell the leather...50+ years later !! Amazing cars.

My Dad's Wessy was simply the best , I was about 9 and always enjoyed our trips to North Wales and coming off the Bala mountain road to Portmadoc, involved a 90 degree junction on to the main road and the Wessy had to work hard , and the sound of the straight six engine will remain with me forever .

My first car in Australia was a 62 A 110. 3 on the tree with overdrive and plain painted dash. What I am seeing here looks more like a 6/110 wolesley dash. Brakes were non assisted discs on the front end and worked brilliantly.

@@musicdpk no mate, it was a 6/110. I know this because I got a great trade in deal on it. Why ? Because it had the 12 port head. The place where I traded it dealt in Healys as well. They had a 3000 they were restoring and wanted the head.

My Father had a 1960 Austin Westminster A99, with 3 speed gear box, and then he had the 1967 Wolseley 6/110 Mk2 with 4 speed box. Both cars had the Borg Warner type 35 Overdrive. I remember driving the A99 on an old airfield and loved the overdrive and once I turned 17 I was able to drive the 6/110. I like to drive it.

@@maddieweststrate both the A99 And A11O had the Borg Warner overdrive. I still have the handbook. It clearly states Borg Warner overdrive. The later Austin 3 literature had the laycock overdrive.

I used to own a Westminster in 1973 manual with overdrive, great reliable car, i did thousands of trouble free miles in that car, then bought a automatic Wolseley 6/110, thirsty on gas and nowhere as quick as the Westminster.

My father had a Wolsley 15/60 (registration 1790KC) during the 1960's, which shared many fixtures with the Austin Westminster, being one of the "Farina Club" cars.
It was shipped out to Durban, South Africa but the customer died whilst it was in transit, so it never left the ship and was shipped back to England, ending up in a dealership in Bournemouth where my father bought it.
I still have the spare heater fan in the garage, which my father bought but never installed when the original failed. That's all that's remaining of his old Wolsley 15/60.

Austin stuffed up big time when they went to 14" wheels and a three speed gearbox. The last A110 went bck to bigger wheels and a four speed gearbox. worked on all these cars in South Africa in the 1960s. Still have m A110 and Austin Healey 3000 BJ8 series 3 phase 3. The last of the truly great British Healays.

Like the Super Snipe, not dragstrip performers BUT put a big trailer or caravan behind them and the massive torque comes into play; up most NZ hills without dropping below 30 mph. You knew you were going to get there without the need of working the cog box like a rally driver and with everything in tact. Nice to see this one being driven respectfully. I drive a 1950 Jowett and it pisses me off bigly when know-alls start up on its "short comings" as they eruditely compare it with their nice new Swift.

Btw, as these old cars used to run on full leaded petrol, do you have to put in the high grade petrol that's available now, or will they take unleaded?
