Tip for those types of mre rations. Like most ppl eating a bag of crisps you're attacking it from the top. But with hot meals you want to turn it on the side and open the long end instead. This gives a larger opening to give easier and more comfortable access to the contents.

Just a note about Dakota fire holes. Do not make one too close to a tree. It can burn the roots of the tree thus badly damaging the health of the tree. Or worse yet it can set the roots on fire under ground and kill the tree. Great video. I always look forward to you popping up on my notifications.
You did a fine job on the Dakota firepit. It drew well and kept the flames low enough. You made it just the right size for your cooking needs. You picked a lovely spot to put up the bivvy: under that fine tree and not down in that ditch you pointed out at first.
Great informative vid Dan! Might try this ! Would it be an idea to stack soil and leaves to create a bank / circle around the pit ? That way you’re shielding the flames/light more ? Just a thought
A great watch again Dan. I'm still working my way through your videos as a newcomer, liked and subscribed. As a Scouser I wouldn't want to get caught digging a hole in the middle of nowhere though! 👀
Great video dan, The only thing to be careful of is the closeness to the tree roots you make your fire, it can damage root systems or even burn under ground for weeks. Also be careful of the type of substrate like clay or peat. but anyway great vid loved the ration pack not one ive tried yet.
Enjoying the stealth camps and the Dakota fire pit! Great stuff on your videos. You do you and don't worry about the haters. Not worth it. You have a following and they will come around eventually! Looking forward to more videos. When camping we're usually in a vehicle so I take my dutch ovens and cook and bake up a storm. Cake, pudding, scrumptious ribs, roasts, pork loin with onion, potatoes 50 ways, etc. etc. But I Love the rations you share. Had no idea they made so many different varieties. Super interesting ideas. I do like seeing different stealth camps, including the dakota fire pit and bivy. That bivy looks intriguing. I do like the side entry quite a bit....easier than crawling in from the top. I also find that I can stick my pack up above my head inside of bivies like that because I'm only 5'4", keeping all of my kit and gear in the bivy with me at night. It's a little heavy, but not bad at all for the budget price and if you aren't doing multi nights in it. Awesome find. Also, I find the MREs from different countries really really fascinating. I was in the US Army back in the 90's and ours were much less interesting. I also remember they would have me running for the latrine pretty quickly! lol Thanks for the entertaining videos.
Great vid, thanks for putting that together. Dakota firepit seems to work like an underground rocket stove, and you can see how efficient the burn was from all the glowing embers. Top work, all the best.
That's exactly how they work. If you dig out the dimensions and the angle of the breath hole correctly, they roar like a blowtorch. Fuel efficient as well. The dakota fire holes don't give off smoke cos of the intense heat they generate from being fed with an endless supply of oxygen. Smoke is caused by fuels thats hold moisture. Green stuff that obviously hasn't had time to dry naturally, or any other fuel that's damp. The dakota fire hole burns fiercely at temperatures far higher than a surface fire cos the oxygen feed is concentrated and channelled straight to the bottom of the fire. Then the flames are drawn upwards by a chimney effect. Basically a small feed inlet and a large exhaust outlet. They don't give off smoke cos anything you feed the hole with is incinerated by the unbelievable intense high temperatures. Green or damp fuel doesn't go through the gradual drying out process like an above ground fire.

Hi this video is excellent you know sometimes less is more really enjoyed well done looking forward to the next. For me it was stealthy class fire and information I can use myself . Thank you
Hi Dan You seemed a bit down by the end. Chin up great video I’ve been stealth camping out since I was 9/10 years old and I’m now 53 and still do it, but every now and then I still get scared for me it’s why I do it as it’s a buzz 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂 you probably heard a badger or a small mammal as they always sound louder at night. I also have dyslexia so thank god for being able to speak what you want to say on your phone. 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂
Love the Dakota ... Great way to not only stealth camp but reduce smoke and wood useage. BUT gotta watch subterranean root fires... Need to have no roots no peat and big soaking after fire.
i like that tent, i'd buy that if i went camping solo, and the camo mesh too, good gear, liked the dakota fire too, great solo camping video, all the best
Great video - I'm new here and have mostly come over because of the cheaper gear reviews. I don't go out much so won't blow a fortune on gear, but I like this bivvy and th price is good!
Coming from the Royal Marines, as you were pulling out the contents of the Rat Packs, I guessed everyone one and trust me, you've probably got the best Rat Pack there is Dan! We always had the shit ones 😂Cola bottles were jelly gold! Mega vid 🤙
Hi Dan great video as always, enjoyed every minute including your night terrors in the darkness, one thing i will pick you up on is your self doubt, Paul Mesner did the same last year and almost gave up but didn''t, he talked to friends and family and came back stronger. i'm just saying your content is always interesting, your down to earth approach is refreshing and keep going your doing a great job. kind regards. Den.
Looked fun. With every fire you do in the wild the shovel is good to have just in case it get out of control. I know it’s heavy but it’s multi use and some of the best defensive weapons you could carry especially in a place like you are in. All the lights and banging metal on metal isn’t very stealth but you play your game. Stay safe.
I thought I was subscribed but I wasn't, always watch your camp outs, your Northern accent makes me chuckle, the beard is looking good, get a beard before it snows it'll keep your face warm in the cold weather. But it definitely suits you, ohhh suits you sir! Lol! Got to convince the Mrs. Oh lovely to hear that gentle rain, it's been so dry this year, no rain to clean the air. Need that rain to keep it a green & pleasant land. How about a coastal camp, you & vegan Dan, I suppose your far from the coast, its getting the time. Anyway keep up the good camping! Always let us know how you feel, ignore the haters, can never please them anyway. A lot of share your opinions & outlook, at least we're right! Lol!
You are doing a great job mate, it relaxes me watching your vids, ignore the critics Dan, I get them all the time plus I've had death threats on the past, they are keyboard warriors. You have a great channel and a great following. Anytime you wanna come down to North Wales you're welcome 😉👍
Hi Dan nice video, the Dakota fire pit was textbook stuff, is there any chance of seeing an alternative to that big welder's glove, for example, a tripod with a chain so you can adjust the height of the pot, and easier access, probably take up less space on the backpack than the glove, keep up the good work laterz Gerry.
Been watching for a while excellent RUclips you might consider one of those wireless small microphone some time hard to hear when camera recording from distance. Just a thought otherwise excellent 👍
Hi you can buy fire pit gloves that are designed for what your welding gloves aren’t designed for then you’ll pick stuff out the fire without it getting too hot to handle they have limitations too but I can pick hot coals out the bbq with them so figure they would be better welding gloves protect from sparks and the light plus heat of welding but you don’t pick up hot things with them you can get ones with glass Matt on that work , anyways great video loved the extra protein in your chiclet if I saw it right swimming in the water afore you boiled it every little helps great video all the best
It's a great video loved the fire and sleep setup but I'd reckomend a red light to use if your stealth camping by yourself probably not a practical thing to use to make a video but just an idea

Dakota fire hole is my No1 method. Quick and easy to dig and get it going. 👌👍

Hi Dan
You seemed a bit down by the end. 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂
good vid Dan last time I made a dakota took a metal grill to sit on top of the edges to cook on, like a bit from a bbq
Good video mate, I love to see your videos. Great fire and it’s educational you talking things through, see your next video soon
Great video Dan
Thankyou mate . Yep them fire lights save a load of time
Love the Dakota ...
Mega vid 🤙
🤣🤣🤣
Nice brother! Enjoyed watching as always mate 👍🏽😎
Stay safe.
I had fun mate 🤣
Mate ifvi don't use light how can you see in my video what I am doing ?
I like the fire pit seamed to work pretty well.
Thanks Dan for for another great video 👍
Hello Dan , Have you thought about changing out the Guy lines on your Bivvy , for non - reflective ones ? 🤔
Yes mate I just forgot
@@englishwoodsman 😂😂🙂
Another great video bro I liked this one awseome fire pit to 💯😎
Great enjoyable video as always. I just wanted to ask how does the heat from the fire hole compare (roughly) with a similar size surface fire please?
I do the very same when out solo camping. Set up with at least one approach cut off by trees or a fence👍🏻
Bravo my friend. Great job
It's a great video loved the fire and sleep setup but I'd reckomend a red light to use if your stealth camping by yourself probably not a practical thing to use to make a video but just an idea
