Hi i am Alan Katz. This is me. I am now 49 years old. I am still an entertainer and make a good living at it. This was my Claim to fame for many years.
Alan Katz Your burping act on the Gong Show was my favorite! Besides the unknown comic, you are who I remember from the show when I was a kid! When we saw your act all those years ago, it inspired my brother to burp the alphabet, and after much practice, he mastered getting through the whole alphabet in one burp! You would have been proud! Haha! Thanks for the great laughs! By the way, you should NOT have been gonged!
Hello, Alan Katz! I'm Jim Hanold, at age 55. Did you ever appear on the 1976-1977 syndicated EVENING version of "The Gong Show," hosted by the legendary Gary Owens?
My sister and I caught this bit back in the day and were ON THE FLOOR with laughter! Never forgot it, either -- we'd bring it up to each from time to time, just to get a laugh. Never thought I'd see it again, but that's what RUclips's good for. I'm just bummed that Alan didn't get to complete his act -- Rip Taylor was wrong to gong!!
This was my favorite episode as a child and I never forgot it (even the guys name). I use to be in tears watching it. I’m now 52 and I can’t believe I’m watching it like I saw it for the first time. Exactly how I remember it!
I just told my little girl about you & here you are on youtube! They are showing a new version of The Gong Show tonight! I was thinking back & remembered this! LOVE IT!!! They shouldn't have gonged you! This show was on during a few of the best years of my life. (senior year of high school & first 2 years of college) Long live Gong Show!
lol, I remember seeing that in '77. I was looking for that one on RUclips a little while ago and now here it is. Thanks for posting it. I would have liked to have seen you get together with my brother. He used to belch out a whole sentence.
I noticed the crowd wasn't all screaming "GONG HIM!GONG HIM!"like they usually do.They saw the expression of the judges especially Rip Taylor and they already knew what was going to happen.
OMG!!!! I've watched the Gong Show back in the day, but this is the first time I saw this clip. I laughed so hard that I cried, especially the alphabet part!!!! That performance is a 10 in my book.
One of my favorites of all. When the Gong Show was played on a special for memorable acts he was on and won the finals. He did an impersonation of what Rudyard Kipling would sound like if he were alive today. Never heard Rudyard talk, but that sounded like what he would sound like.
I loved the original Gong Show as a child, and this was one gonged act I remember distinctly. Was it inspired by George Carlin's "Class Clown" monologue, where he talks about a classmate who could "belch at will"?
I love his expressions when he heard him burping.I love his reason for gonging him "HE CAN OPEN A GAS STATION!!"Well he still won because he won the worst act of the week.I became a great belcher because of him.He really brought out the funniest expressions from Rip Taylor but my favorite moment is when he came out on SuperPassword and he took off his wig. They might have that clip.
Ironically, Alan Katz did win 'The Most Outrageous Act of the Week' Award just one week after this show aired, so now, repulsive or not, there kind of is something favorable to be said for his burping states-of-affairs after all.
They shouldn't have gonged him, that was actually a pretty cool talent! @BobWhiskey: I'm of the belief that "America's Got Talent" is what happens when "The Gong Show" takes itself too seriously!!
Dayuuuuuuum... I myself did some burping as a kid (10 y.o.).. I would drink a coke ... fast... and I could belch out OKEFENOKEE (swamp in Georgia)... But I was amateur compared to this guy.
Yes, in the movie, there is an act called Monsieur LePoof, who extinguished a candle with fart power. I don't know if the act was created for the film or if it was a censored act from the show.

If you're really Alan Katz, it's great to see that you continued pursuing your dream.

This show was great. I wish it was 1976 again.
"That was delightfully sporadic" - I loved this show.

So funny! I’m 50 and burped the alphabet for my kids because of this act years later
@@johnbaugh2437 a great burping man whom inspired generations to come. His career was savagely cut short by short sighted gong beaters.

True talent!

This guy rocks

currently watching The Prank Panel, heard "Alan Katz" & went "OMG thats the burping guy from the Gong Show" 🤣🤣 should've burped in the prank

This is art
Goodness!
Dude! He was great! Shoudve let him stay
I am laughing so hard!
Wish I could burp & laugh at the same time.
😂🗯️
Brings back old memories of my brother and I having our own burping contests around the kitchen table.
Bonus it cheesed my mother off to no end!😅
R.I.P., Rip Taylor.
0:49 alan katz is a marked man now
I was digging it.....LOL
RIP Rip
Burping is an underrated talent just like farting.
Both are funny.
🤣❤️😂

Imagine his prom date.
She must be smart and gorgeous to recognize and appreciate talent like this.
@Stratman78
Word up! I really wish they'd let him finish the act. It would have been interesting to see what he was going to do after the alphabet.
His career was cut short by a triple gong gang up. Life is not fair. No one deserves to be treated like this.
No respect. No respect at all for true talent. A career savagely cut short before it had a chance to blossom into its full potential.
how dare you gong him
Ironically, Alan Katz did win 'The Most Outrageous Act of the Week' Award just one week after this show aired, so now, repulsive or not, there kind of is something favorable to be said for his burping states-of-affairs after all.
So at least he got his $516.32 and a dirty sock
I remember that
is this the early version of america's got talent?
I think he got gonged for the unibrow.
They just didn`t know good burping when they heard it. In 1988 and `89 in Jr. High we had burping contests everyday at lunch lol.
I would imagine that burping is almost certainly one way to get gonged.
If he only ate a popsicle.....
look at rip taylor when he hits the gong
I’m dead
@funwed you got gang gonged
Amazing talent! It’s hard to do that! If he added farting, he would have won the big prize!
1:10 cue the band with a thug
@ 1:11 *gong*
Miss Warwick apparently needed a check.
They shouldn't have gonged him, that was actually a pretty cool talent!

I thought it was pretty funny myself. Too bad the panelists didn't agree.
DJCandyManMike One week later, Chuck Barris awarded him for his Most Outrageous Act of the Week.
I wonder if they ever had a "fart" version...
They might've had that act.
Yes, in the movie, there is an act called Monsieur LePoof, who extinguished a candle with fart power. I don't know if the act was created for the film or if it was a censored act from the show.
😂
Dude burping sort of looks like Kaka the soccer player from Brasil
@TNmike0309, e verdade nao reparei
Very clearly he didn't burp the alphabet right. That was what got him gonged lol.
That and the fact that they were not allowed to gong anyone during the first minute of an act...
not everyone can do that, you know. by the way, why do so many people regard burps as disgusting? in other cultures it's not seen that way, is it?
You're an idiot if you think it's being a slob. Pretentious, snobby loser. Get off your high horse.
🤣
I thought that he was great. Oh well, Rip wouldn't appreciate manly talent since he isn't really a man.
I knew someone who could do that. He wasn't too popular..burping is gas release out of the mouth. Disgusting
