My god.....the game has changed for me after seeing this video. . . . I owe all my progression thus far to Mt.Mograph. these tutorials helped me more than the "professors/teachers" at my dumpy art school. Thank you so much. I can't wait to try this out after I work tonight.
For those who had problems with the rotation and scale in AE, this helped me: Follow all the steps, but let the keyframes animation for last, before save the project. Also check your frame rate in both projects.
Hey, man ! Your tutorials are very helpful and fun. Until now I've just went trough your tutorials randomly...old & new. And on the old ones you were getting frustrated by the fact that they were too long but actually they were more helpful because you explained what you were doing and one has time to understand. With this tutorial for example, even though it's 17 min long, I had to go back alot of times just to follow you...and you also don't seem to enjoy it that much. Just an advice to help you chill a little bit :) You're awesome and thank you !
I'm just beginning to get the very basics of AE and a complete beginner in C4D - Took me about 6 tries but I finally got it. Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge!
Really really frustrated here. I did the tutorial once and it worked out okay, but in C4D, the camera I made would not zero it's values. I got it as close to zero as I could by navigating using the 1,2, and 3 keys on my keyboard, but in the end I wasn't happy with it so I started over. When I did it again, the same thing happened (Using Studio R12), but I found a workaround where I could select front facing camera and then zoom in to get it perfect. The problem is that this time when I imported the file to After Effects and extracted the files, the "CONTENT" file was all screwed up. Not only does it have scale keyframes, but also wacky position keyframes. I cannot get the shape to be the right size, as is seems to be infinitely large in one direction at all times. I tried the tutorial from scratch twice more with the same results. Finally, I took the original file that had worked before and simply modified it to use the front facing camera workaround I had tried, but now this one too is broken and the "CONTENT" null is buggy. Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?
This is amazing. I had no idea I had Cinema 4D Lite. Just like Mocha, I have no idea how to use it, and your tutorial was SUPER FAST. I had trouble following, but it's good, because when I watch it a few times I won't have to skip at all, just pause a lot. Keep it up, and THANKS!
Guys, if anyone is having problems with the content not matching the scale or the rotation of the 3d object the following things may help: - make sure the scale of the screen in the 3d drawing is 1920x1080 - make sure the framerate of both the animation in c4d and the composition in AE match - set the keyframes in c4d to linear - make sure you have a c4d plugin in after effects so the file reads properly. These tips could be found in the comments below but I thought a quick list would help. Thanks to Mt. Mograph for his awesome content.
Great tutorial! I have so many ideas, and now I can finally make them happen because of this video. I knew I subscribed to your channel for a reason... Great Stuff man. Keep it up.
Thanks for the tut! Is it possible to zoom in on the screen of the computer to make a transition into another movie/animation? Position-values is locked in AE for the C4D object. Thanks again!
Hi Matt, another option (which I think its better) is use the Cellulo Shader inside the Luminance channel. This way you have total control and can add "steps of glossiness" in the cel shading. Don't know if you already knew that, but is very cool =) Thanks for this and all the other great tutorials!
I will try to just keep it low by saying Haaaalllleeeellluuuujjaaaaah-haaaaaa! You Are Truly a Master of What You are Doing here SIR!!! Thank You For Taking your time to Release such an important part of c4d to cc2014!!! workflow in such a cool way!!
Holy smokes, I thought you were doing this with shape layers. The effects looks great, but I am not going to lie, it is a weight off my shoulders to know you did it in c4d.
awesome video , awesome tutorial man .. love this ! but i have some problems 1- there is this thin white line in the middle of the screen ? 2- the text in the content screen are not fixed with the screen it self, it feels like a mask inside the screen. so basically the screen rotates and the text stays the same inside .. do i make any sense ?
Awesome tutorial as always, Matt! This is a cool video, but I was kinda lost when you export the c4d file to AE. Hope you could explain a little bit about why you chose Multi-pass, extract c4d data and Object buffer(I've no idea what those are doing). Also how did the null object in C4D for screen content work when it exports to AE?
Hey Matt, super clear and concise tut :) Could I grab a hint? I'm having some issues with the Content Null as others may have also been... When I click extract the solid is slightly wonky and doesn't follow the same rotation as my screen. What could I be doing wrong here? I have scrapped and re tried this three times and still having the same problem. Any help would be awesome :)
Problem solved (so far) my extraction was making two cameras, I turned off the bottom and turned on the top. Back in business. Not sure what I did wrong here but I hope this helps someone else :)
For people having the same trouble, I just randomly created another Camera inside AE and deleted it after messing around with it then suddenly the Object Buffer was in the right place!
Please reply i really need help, this worked for me but how do i get the deformers or mograph effectors to show in after effects its only showing the effect in cinema 4D. Thanks for posting this great vid bro!
Thank you for your great tutorial. I have a question: If my c4d file has sky, background, studio setup etc and I only want to import the main object to AE without the background, studio, but still keep the reflection, shadow kind of things. I tried to set composting tags for sky, background, studio and uncheck "seen by camera", but it doesn't seem to work when importing into AE.
I had no idea I owned C4D Lite until this video. Wow. I've been looking for something like this. So much simpler than my Maya workflow. What are the limitations of Lite compared to the full version?
This is my first time in Cinema 4D lite and the tutorial is working beautifully! Very excited. The only snag I am hitting is at 12:45. I try to right click on the camera to add "protection", but it wont let me right click on the camera at all.... Any help would be really, really appreciated!!! Thank you so much!
CrazyMiranda2013 Okay, I figured it out myself. if you go under your preferences in Cinema 4D Lite and go to Input Devices, make sure you have "Control Click for Right Click" checked off. Damn, that drove me crazy!!!
hey thanks for the vid, really cool. just one little problem I'm having, when i put in the C4D ani the grid shows up even though its not turned on in C4D, any suggestions of how to fix this. thanks again
Hello! thank you very much for all your amazing tutorials! i'm learning a lot with all the videos you share with us... I have a question and here's the deal... I did my 3D computer on cinema 4D as you explained and updated the material on AE, but there are some lines that are appearing on my render... i've searched why is that and i found that all i have to do is change the render, from standard to final, even though, i'm still watching this lines on my project as on my render... what i'm doing wrong? did you explain this in a preview tutorial? if that's the case just tell me what tutorial number is and i will find out by doing it by myself. Thank you very much :D! I'm sorry if my english is not good enough, i try to write my doubt as clear as i can :P
i know this one is an oldie but a boy it's a goldie! love your work dude - I owe you a lot! one question if you see this 3 years later - any idea why when I delete my content from the 'screen content' precomp the content that is being played back in the computer screen master comp is reversed??? thus far my roadside fix has been to just reflect the content inside the screen content precomp but that is rudimentary at best?
For some reason when my screen rotates I can see the red content rectangle behind my screen. I have it as a child of the 'screen' object and that in itself is below the Monitor base object so it shouldn't be appearing above them... any ideas?
Sweet so i can make objects in Cinema4d and not even have to render to it and just slap it into AE.. i did not know that..the other day my computer shut off after overheating trying to render something ..
hi mister first thank you for your summits and presets i want know , how to change my skin after effects like you? your after effects lines are blue and it has many different with standard after effects thank you for your reply...
***** OK also in part of the video you make a new shape or comp I can't remember I think the hex value shows up there anyway thanks for making awesome videos
Hey Matt! Great little animation, do you come up with these animation ideas by yourself because they sometimes have a lot of elements or effects ane seem preety complex. :P
I think that is part of the new theme (13.1?), for some reason CC tells me that version 13.0.x [I can't remember exactly..] is the latest, therefore I cannot get this. :(
I ran into a problem when extracting c4d data, I didn't get the solid red plain instead it was just a path for a null. After a bit exploration I realised In render settings, go to save -> Compositing Project File -> Check all the boxes, select After Effects as the Target Application. Just putting it up here if someone may run into the same problem.
i had the same problem. I couldn't set the precomp of "content of screen" to a luma matte. After doing some research, I realized it was because the 3D renderer needs to be set at classic 3d instead of cinema 4d in the composition settings. Once I changed that it worked
Hi Mt Mograph (mad, don't really know how to write your name) but thank you so much for all the tutorials! I've finished my first project today for a website! you can just set the camera to 0,0,0
Thanks for posting this! I've been wanting to learn more about the ae / c4d lite workflow for a while now.

Thanks to Mt. Mograph for his awesome content.
had a very choppy output in AE - had my frame rate set to 1 - this comment helped me doubled check frame rates and correct! so thanks!!!
thanks !!!
Awesome tutorial Matt! This is exactly what I have been wanting for a future project. Keep up the great work!
really helpful tutorial. long life Mt. Mograph
Awesome tutorial, love the style of your videos, always so easy to follow!
Hey Matt.. I Have just made my phone and my laptop for my Client by exact following your instructions!! Thank You again For this one!! Thumbs Up!!!
Awesome tutorial. Thanks for showing me that C4D is useful after all.
Thank you for making this, it's incredibly insightful and very helpful. Just subscribed
Great tutorial! I have so many ideas, and now I can finally make them happen because of this video. I knew I subscribed to your channel for a reason... Great Stuff man. Keep it up.
It worked on like the 2nd attempt Thanks Matt
Just what i was looking for!! GREAAAAT!! as always! keep doing amazing tuts..
Really nice explanation of this technique, great job Matt!
Amazing! One day when I am an after effect God, I will look down from the heavens and remember that you provided the mountain I climbed to get there.
Thanks for the great tut. Hard to find tuts on faking the flat 3d look without sketch and toon. Looking forward to more tuts like this.
More simple cinema 4d + AE tutorials like this would be great!
Very nice tutorial. Right to the point. Good info and jokes at the same time.
Thanks for making this tutorial much appreciated.
Amazing! Thank you so much for all your hard work! :)
Very beautiful animation!
this was packed with goodies
Great tut. Nice that you used the Cinema 4D Lite that came with AE, so now I can follow along
Thanks for tut bro. Please, keep up this C4D and Ae stuff going!
Thank you Matt. That was nice and useful.
Hi, Thanks for you videos. they're awesome. Is there a way to do something like this without cinema 4D?
Thanks for the tut! Is it possible to zoom in on the screen of the computer to make a transition into another movie/animation? Position-values is locked in AE for the C4D object. Thanks again!
Is it possible to model in cinema 4d then export as an obj and do the animating with Element 3d ?
Hi Matt, another option (which I think its better) is use the Cellulo Shader inside the Luminance channel. This way you have total control and can add "steps of glossiness" in the cel shading. Don't know if you already knew that, but is very cool =)

Fantastic. This answered some questions I had!
thank´s Mt. Mograph. Good work!!
Excellent as usual.
Heya, I have gotten to the After Effects 'Extract' part but it has only extracted the camera and not the null object...???
This is awesome! But i'm having a hard time with the background. I can't set the background I want. I just get a grey screen. How do you fix this?
Holy smokes, I thought you were doing this with shape layers. The effects looks great, but I am not going to lie, it is a weight off my shoulders to know you did it in c4d.
Matt, thanks for the video. I wish your key strokes were being shown during your time in C4D, as they are in some of your previous videos.
Your After Effects looks so cool !
awesome video , awesome tutorial man .. love this ! but i have some problems
1- there is this thin white line in the middle of the screen ?
2- the text in the content screen are not fixed with the screen it self, it feels like a mask inside the screen. so basically the screen rotates and the text stays the same inside .. do i make any sense ?
@Mt. Mograph I am using AE cs6 and it gives error as not supported file format when importing c4d file....Can you suggest?
Great tutorial! I have a doubt, is possible to use the basic properties (scale, position and opacity) on the layer with content created in C4D?
i love this video, thanks!!! it´s very helpful
Matt on the second example you showed us, on the screen a kid of white line swope across the Mac screen. Please could you do a tutorial on this?
Hey Matt, super clear and concise tut :) Could I grab a hint? I'm having some issues with the Content Null as others may have also been... When I extract the Cinema 4D Scene Data my Object Buffer appears on the upper left corner, how can I fix that? Thanks!

This was great, as usual. Any chance to show "how-to" for users without "Lite" but stand-alone cinema 4d and cs6?
I had no idea I owned C4D Lite until this video. Wow. I've been looking for something like this. So much simpler than my Maya workflow.

CrazyMiranda2013
Okay, I figured it out myself.
if you go under your preferences in Cinema 4D Lite and go to Input Devices, make sure you have "Control Click for Right Click" checked off.
Damn, that drove me crazy!!!
Great work, as always, thx
I don't have Object Buffer in my multi-pass drop down menu, it just starts at RGBA Image. Any reason for it not being there?
hey thanks for the vid, really cool. just one little problem I'm having, when i put in the C4D ani the grid shows up even though its not turned on in C4D, any suggestions of how to fix this. thanks again
sorry figured it out (:
keep feeding this these awesome summits bro
omg this looks amazing thank you so much :3

your after effects lines are blue and it has many different with standard after effects
thank you for your reply...
How did you get the shade/reflection on the base though?
When I render it and export it from after effects to Premiere Pro it doesn't export correctly. What should I do?
Very nice thanks man!
Great job! I love it.
how you watch a 17 minute video uploaded 5minutes ago?
Eddie Amaya I didn't finish it, but at the start he shows a preview of what he's going to be making.
Muito bom !!! Obrigado.
I have a quick random question for u what's the hex value of the colour your using as the background?
BTW on the first one you open to show us the final project
***** OK also in part of the video you make a new shape or comp I can't remember I think the hex value shows up there anyway thanks for making awesome videos
nice tut
Hey Matt! Great little animation, do you come up with these animation ideas by yourself because they sometimes have a lot of elements or effects ane seem preety complex. :P
Does this work with other 3D software as Rhino or 3DMax?
thanks, exactly what I needed :)
I use AE 2019 version, contect of screen cannot be matt and 3D object at the same time. What should I do to solve this?
Muchas Gracias Estaba buscando como hacer justo eso ! (Y) GRACIAS :D
hey man! how do you change the yellow color (of the timer, for example) into light blue?
I think that is part of the new theme (13.1?), for some reason CC tells me that version 13.0.x [I can't remember exactly..] is the latest, therefore I cannot get this.
:(

Could 3DS MAX do this?
And how to eliminate the shadow of the 3D object?
thank you~
thanx man ...you are amizing ......i watch evrey tuto
cool tutorial
Thanks for your tutorial :)
but how to import .c4d files into AE CS6?
How u can get "New MAXON Cinema 4D File.." when u right click on project window ?
Amazing tutorial my friend, Keep up.
This is awesome! More Tutorial on the AE - C4D Link please =D Thanks again!!
Can someone help me i cant find the regular compositing tag i use c4d Studio r16.027
Is there any way to acquire that CINEWARE
Thanks!
Awesome!
You rock!
Love your Tutorials! Please make another 2D Intro tut... :)
I guess 2.5D would be more catchy than 2D 3D.
5:2D ha, swag
***** thats more like it
made it through the whole thing, except, when my computer spins arouind, i can see the screen from the back. What did i do wrong?
i had the same problem.
I basically learned almost everything that I used in my video from your videos so I just wanted to say thank you! It would be amazing if you could check the video that I've made out but I know you are busy so yeah. I'm just here to say thank you!
Hey man!
Let's some cool and intresting low-poly stuff in Cinema 4D! What's wrong with you? We're waiting!!!
this was a great tutorial and almost everything went perfectly. I've got to the end and replaced the content and it all works except for the rotation of the content on the screen is not in sync with the rest of the stuff and so I have black borders appearing on the screen when it rotates.
So basically the content isn't rotating as if it is part of the screen, rather just in the middle as it's own thing.
Any help is greatly appreciated
I have the same problem.. Have you figured out a solution? Would help me out a lot! Thanks
I'm no expert on anything, and I know this comment is really late, but It sounds like your content isn't a child of the computer monitor, so it doesn't follow it's keyframes...
The Content of my screen is not moving with the monitor, help?
thks a lot
Can we do this using Maya ?
