  • Today on Fab Fit Friday I'm finishing up my new pants.... I LOVE THEM. Working with quality fabric makes a huge difference. These new Sorcha Classic Slim Trousers are made from a Cashmere/Linen/Cotton Blend from ‪@metrotextiles3499‬ ...A score from my trip to last year's Nation ASG Conference in NYC. I used Silk Charmuse to make the pocket bags... so luxurious!! I tested my pants after cutting them out twice... Once with a single leg to fine-tune the fit and then again when I basted them together to double check the fit. Both times the side seams matched in length. Then when I went to sew them together after finishing the front pocket and fly... the back side seam was about 1" longer than the front :(((( .... I was being so careful, I really can't explain why this happened. But I can show you how to deal with it if it happens to you. The waistline was also too big, so I'll show you what I did there too!

Hi, I have taken up sewing again, and I've been following Jen to learn about fitting pants. I am making my third pair using the In the folds peppermint wide leg pants pattern. I have made many alterations/modifications to get them to fit and be wearable. On all of them, the back waist has been an inch higher than the front. I don't know why either. Keep up the good work Jen, you are doing a great job and I am learning heaps!

I'm so happy to hear that!! ...and, it's ok if the waistband is not parallel to the floor. I can be higher in the back if that's what's comfortable. If it's not, you can take off the waistband and trim the extra length off!

Jen interfacing is a necessary evil. I love a contoured waistband and don't use anything else now as the straight strip ones from the big 4 patterns just don't fit well. I usually just overlock the edge of my facing however I love the satin binding and must try that.

:))) Yes it is! Finishing the edge of the facing with a overlock stitch is a nice finish too! I have many a part of jeans and pants that I did that vs. a binding. Thanks for following along!
