    I redistribute some of the notes between the hands in the 2 manual variations and this new approach will soon be available from a music publisher publisher in the UK.
    In this recording I used the 4th harmonic pedal in resonance position only. The harmonic pedal was invented by Denis de La Rochefordière.
    The score featured in this video is Bach’s original version for 2 manual harpsichord and is free to download from the IMSLP Music Library: goo.gl/4ReT6G

    What can one say? This is Bach. Perfect. Here you can hear the big advantage of piano over harpsichord: the possibility of stressing particular notes by playing them louder.

    • @datdang9113
      @datdang9113 2 года назад +7

      the harpsichord with 2 rows of keyboard can technically have 2 levels of dynamics but sure it is no where as good as piano

    • @cafiristanemperor
      @cafiristanemperor 5 месяцев назад +1

      Do you prefer oboe or English horn?
      Because that argument of yours is of the same kind. And the harpsichord CAN emulate dynamics by playing the notes staccato or legato, which creates an ilusion of dynamics, just like the recorder players like myself.
      Cheers!
      We can all agree that this piece is perfect, at least!

      Apparently Bach tried out an early type of pianoforte but is said not to have liked it. I play some Bach, or at least try to, but it seems counterintuitive to do so with either zero dynamics OR with merely two, one soft, one loud. I think the music is too nuanced for either of the aforementioned approaches.

    • @malicant123
      @malicant123 3 месяца назад +1

      True, but I think that the lack of dynamics of the harpsichord lent itself to the rich harmony and melody of baroque music.

    Notice that the pianist doesn’t do the cross over in bars 13-14, instead just taking the notes with the left hand. I’ve always stumbled on this passage and tried it his way. It’s so much easier! I haven’t observed anyone else ever do this.

    • @lohphat
      @lohphat Год назад +3

      But what throws me is the notation in bars 13-14. It shows the two notes in the upper staff prefixed with an F clef which would indicate to cross over an play them with the right hand but he doesn't. The score doesn't reflect what he's doing with each hand.

    • @arman2339
      @arman2339 Год назад +3

    EXCELLENT METER, RHYTHMICALLY ACCURATE, GREAT FEEL... MOST CLASSICAL PIANISTS DON'T SEEM TO REALLY EVER MAKE THE MUSIC GROOVE ALMOST AS IF THERE'S NO PULSE SORT OF ARHYTHMIC IN A WAY
    THIS WAS REFRESHING AND WELL PLAYED

    I usually prefer baroque music played on original instruments, but I really like also good interpretations though without this philological element; and it is one of them: I think you use a great and clear phrasing. Very good execution, in my opinion! :D

    It's interesting how (in my opinion) it becomes more meaningful and memorable when the repeats are not played, like Gould does. Somehow the repetition waters down the first impression.

    • @ptose
      @ptose 2 года назад

      I like the repetition here because the piece is awesome and frankly quite short, but in any case for what I know those repetitions were used because back then they didn't have recorded music (no to mention youtube, spotify, mp3s stc) so many times there was just one occasion for a listener to hear a piece.

    Hi Paul,
    Amazing video, as always! I was wondering if you are familiar with Dvorak's Polka in E Major. I find it hard to judge how complex it is, and I don't know if you would be interested in playing it. I think it would sound fantastic, especially with your expert technique and great sense of rhythm and volume :)
