I missed that the first time. I was showing somebody how stupid this was, and when I caught him rolling himself on the table, we just broke out laughing. I was howling, I couldn't take it. This guy is so fucking stupid.
Kenny was literally waiting for ages with his eyes wide open.
To counter a move. And sometimes it worked. Sometimes Vikingo was too fast.

@@samidnasir Some he did counter. So it makes sense he thinks he can do it again. His counters are more impactful against opponent than simply moving out of the way.

I really tried to give this a fresh look, but moments in they were just waiting for each other to set-up spots, catch each other, and run back and fourth.

He does that spot all the time. He's honestly inpressive if you warch him in the context of lucha libre. Here in the U.S. it doesn't work too well.

The Ambulance gimmick was done by Sting 1st at Clash of Champions during the early stages of his rivalry with Rick Rude.
I cried that night when Sting lost the US Title to Rude. 8yr old me was heartbroken.
The thumbnail here is PERFECT. This wasn't a match. It was kids yelling at their mom to watch them as they jumped into a pool.

JR wouldn’t want his release. He’s making a fortune to work one day a week on a one hour long show. When he was originally signed on at least AEW announced his deal as the most lucrative in pro wrestling commentator history. And judging by all we hear about how AEW pays people I don’t doubt that he did get a giant amount in his deal, although I have no idea how much money it would be to be the most in commentator history. Back in the day when JR was an executive in the WWE there were some years where his pay was disclosed in the company’s SEC reports but this was probably like 2004 or so. And if I remember right he was making $300K or so for his commentating contract.
I would imagine that the pay for the role has gone up quite a bit since that point of time so I wouldn’t be surprised if JR is earning around $1M a year even. At his age that has to be a pretty sweet gig to make a lot of money for a low amount of work to get it. He’s signed through sometime in 2024 whenever he hits 50 years in wrestling and I think he will probably step away from commentary altogether at that time possibly. If I remember right I think JR said that the plan was always that he start out as the main announcer and help Excalibur grow into that role eventually. So I think how things have been transitioning for him are largely in line with what was always going to happen. I’m a JR homer admittedly but I have to agree he isn’t as great as he once was which is natural with how old he is now. But I just hope that whenever he chooses to exit that he gets to Do it on his terms. I think he deserves that after all these years.
This match is a prime example of the disconnect AEW fans have. No one is saying these “matches” aren’t impressive, we’re just saying that it’s not professional wrestling.

True, when AAA gave the title to Kenny, after a few months they said it was a failure because it didn't brought Americans to watch the shows, and the Mexicans didn't give a damn either. (And we're talking pre-COVID)
Weirdly enough, Bobby Fish got a match for the Megacampeonato at Moterrey, and he got a huge pop from the crowd.
I think AEW should ditch the refs and just have judges at ringside to give these dance routines a score out of 10.

Nobody can get over as a small guy like Rey did in WCW in the 90s and into his WWE days. You believed Rey Mysterio could beat a bigger guy because he was doing things you had never seen at the time and was booked to be the underdog super hero in a believable way.

If you like that style , Vikingo is the man . But Tony booking him an Omega as a dream match in America with zero build is absurd . If it was PWG ? Hell Yeah its a dream match !!!!!! I enjoyed it . But I like niche wrestling from time to time . Not ALL THE TIME ! And mainstream fans dont either . A happy medium is easy to find to find to bridge the gap . Make stars and dont ruin them within a month and dont run off the ones you had for starters !

It's getting to the point where I can completely skip the episode of Dynamite and just wait for Jim and Brian to review. Jim gives move-by-move match recap with commentary, then Brian gives his analysis. Why torture myself when two guys who are more entertaining than the wrestlers themselves already did it for me?

@J. Disagree. I've been watching wrestling for 30 years now but abandoned WWE a few years back. AEW is my only reliable access to wrestling and I've been really wanting it to succeed but I am now at the point where I am skipping through most of the show so that I can get a preview of what Jim and Brian are going to talk about, then get on with my day. I'm one shitty show away from not even doing that anymore which means that AEW will lose a fan, but Jim and Brian will lose a viewer too. Sure, I'm just one guy, but I don't think my experience is unique here.
Why they keep persisting with Paige is completely beyond me, the endless trios spot fests and the utterly shite women's division and interrupted interviews have worn me down. Why watch other than to see how MJF is being used and maybe to get a glimpse of Anna Jay?
This match is basically the equivalent of:
Mr. Clean vs. Rothion (Soul Calibur)
Batman vs. Rande Gerber
Jet Stingray vs. Jared Pobre
*Swat Kats* vs. *Tears For Fears,* these three matches ain't!
Probably some of the most obvious waiting to take moves I've ever seen in a singles match.

Look I loved this match, I was in awe and amazed by how fast Vikingo moved and flipped, and I would love to see a match between him and Rey Fenix. BUT what does this match mean? What does it do? It was kinda meaningless. I mean Vikingo can do the moves, but he doesn't have a body or a face so I see what Jim is saying too.

The one good thing about AEW, is that if you watch a match with the sound off, while listening to the corresponding Jim Cornette rant, it’s like watching a wrestling MST3K.

All the people saying it was "great"... I just kept saying the same thing, what was the story/angle? Is Vikingo sticking around? Nope, going back to AAA. Was Kenny gonna turn heel on him to build up to a blow off gimmick match? Is it just a throwaway match for the sake of it? A flippy midget doing flips is all it was.
Cornette is right. The "Adam Page saves Kenny Omega" angle should have been dropped. As one wrestling commentator pointed out, this kind of wrestling angle is what Roger Ebert used to call the "Idiot Plot." It's a plot that could be resolved if one wrestler simply went back and watched the video of the match:
"Hey, Adam, did you attack me with your nail-spiked board?"
"No, Kenny! I ran into the ring to save you when the other guys were attacking you. Look at the video! You'll see what really happened!"
"Okay, yeah, looking at the video, I see now what you were trying to do. Thanks, Adam. I owe you one! Let's go get a beer! I'm buying!"
