Five years on. My Javelin had engine modifications by Mr Padman earlier in its career, bringing its output closer to that of the Jupiter. Over the 5 yrs, it has had a kingpin, an engine mount, a new distributor cap and some quite minor chassis rust removal for the Warrant of Fitness. Performance-wise, I've read that in the day, only a Lancia Aprilia could give a Javelin a good go in the 1500cc class. It would leave Wyverns and Consuls for dead and cause a few red faces in the Velox and Holden camps. So today I have a car that would, if I had a screw loose in my bonce, do the original 80 mph but 45 - 55 is more dignified for a lady of much my own age. I have displayed it at local car shows where the suicide doors and engine layout always generate interest. Some perspective re pricing - a Javelin de Luxe in 1952 NZ cost 1250 pounds and a Mk1 Zephyr was about 250 cheaper, both IF you had overseas currency as a deposit. That rort is another story.
Looks Jaguar up front, Austin Heally rear, absolutely beautiful, a true sports car from a era of class, sadly we will never experience times like this ever again
Very interesting, Leo. I have a Javelin and follow all things Jowett as closely as possible, but apart from driving it up to the Bay of Islands from South Auckland when I bought it, I have not been on any long trips or Club rallies yet. Col (n. de p.)
This beautiful car would look even better, with either wire wheels or specially made American style wheel trims, with wire spokes between the lovely hubcaps, and the tyre!

Good explanation, Leo. I hope it got a good reception from a TV audience. Lovely car too!
