Playthrough Rules:
1. Only my starter in battle
2. No items in battle*
3. No glitches or exploits*
4. No Double-Team TM before level 100*
Other rules:
-- *Pokeballs are allowed in battle when I need to catch an HM user
-- I play the game at 4x game speed (238 frames per second)
-- I allow myself to manipulate my starter (IVs, nature, HP type)
-- Using the bike for movement speed increases is banned (it can be used to obtain items)
-- Saving between league members is allowed
-- If the solo Pokemon faints and I choose to blackout it counts towards my reset counter
-- HM Mules cannot use Pickup (I want to ensure that the comparison between Pokemon is as accurate as possible, this RNG would skew things.)
*Double-Team:
-- Almost every Pokemon can learn Double-Team through TM
-- Using it would centralize the meta
-- Every Pokemon would use it to overcome tough battles at lower levels
-- It raises evasion
-- It triggers the badge boost
-- Banning the TM allows Pokemon who learn it through level up to use it
-- I believe evasion is part of Pokemon and shouldn't be banned entirely
-- I don't want the videos to all be double-team spam though, that's not fun or entertaining

Rayquaza:ok kids I'll be out for a few hours. Don't destroy the world while I'm gone.
Groudon and Kyogre:ok.....
Narrator:they didn't listen
Funny how there's 2 Rayquazas in this video.
One that's basically with the protagonist as a scouter/eyewitness while the other one is the storyline being the real guardian and all.
Flygon crying in the corner watching Altaria, Salamance, Rayquaza AND the Latis all get mega evolutions.
yea, and the reason why? They couldn't find design that would be cool enough...
Which is fair because I wouldn’t want a bad mega design
I love flygons design personally lol
@@c.2518 *Mega Kangaskan, Absol, and the Latis have entered the chat*
I still want mega kingdra
The interesting thing about Rayquaza is that because of its ability, it can feasibly beat both Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre in its base form. That matches up with the Gen 6 lore where Primal Groudon and Primal Groudon were their original forms whereas Mega Rayquaza was a more recent form.
No it can’t, stone edge from groudon and ice beam from kyogre will destroy it. Why make up fake facts for likes? Pathetic
@@asscrackb4ndit Base Rayquaza can outspeed both Primals naturally. It can use Hydro Pump for Primal Groudon and Dragon Ascent for Primal Kyogre (since Primal Kyogre has bad defense by Uber standards)
@@Hyperencrpted12345 You mean Waterfall? Waterfall is more fluid to go with physically. Besides, Rayquaza doesn't get Hydro Pump in Gen 6/7.
And yes, Dragon Ascent melts Primal Kyogre, especially since Gen 6 and 7 are more on the physical attacking spectrum with Primal Groudon everywhere like GSC Snorlax.
The reason you haven't seen the Hiker on Mt. Chimney is because he's hanging around in the room between Agatha and Lorelei
It’s always cool when a move like Fly is being used legitimately in a playthrough. Even better that it’s my favorite legendary Rayquaza!
Rayquaza "only" he says xD
I think the pits in Flannery's gym are supposed to be geysers, there is a hot springs in *lavaridge* and its beside a volcano so it would make sense. Even her pokemon team is built around this premise- slugma obviously being a "magma" pokemon, numel being fire/ground and the "eruption" pokemon, and her ace torkoal being the smoldering or "steam" pokemon. Now that I lay out all the pieces I actually think its pretty cool, I like when pokemon references real world geology or ecology in the game structure, it's more stylish, immersive, and educational
THIS!!! Dude, exactly!!
Can we talk about how incredibly good the soundtrack for Emerald is? Reminds me of the "The entire Pokemon Emerald soundtrack, but it's all trumpets" video which was surprisingly good.
French horn supremacy!
Yeah, this soundtrack is sooooo good. I love working on the videos just because I get to listen to it!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I feel like your biggest problem was you DIDNT FULLY COMPREHEND what base 150 spec attack n base 150 attack actually means
You setup WAY TOO MUCH n it cost you vs Wallace, maxie and Norman
I feel setup moves in Gen 3 are good ONLY IF you have no other options like Steven for example and unless you needed the speed you probably could have been much better off with say calm mind for example
3. If you have a setup move YOU NEED TO BUILD your ENTIRE MOVESET and nature around THE SETUP MOVE, probably invest vitamins in defenses so you can set up and not USE A MIXED ATTACK SPECIAL ATTACK approach
because that approach is very risky to pull off and makes one look foolish when it doesn't work
3. If it can curse, status me NOW if berry is used or perish song JUST ATTACK
Heck you could have made a detour to the abandoned ship got ice beam and had a way safer Winona fight
4. Why setup vs tate n liza?? Why?? It's a double battle, claydol has ancient power and screens JUST ATTACK equip sitrus n hope lunatone doesn't hypnosis
I have the same complaint with Wallace BECAUSE HE HAS ICE BEAM N BLIZZARD you either 1 shot or rare candy
Someone else said it already but HP Flying is really, really good. Fly's extra turn gives the opponent a chance to set up and it can miss. Possibly Aerial Ace could be argued for because it deals with any Double Teams (hey Ludicolo). If you ever do Gyarados in Gen 2 or 3, HP Flying is basically its only physical STAB move, but all the dragons also used it in competitive play.
Funnily enough, Rayquaza in Gen 3 Ubers doesn't actually use HP Flying, unlike Salamence, Aerodactyl, and Gyarados in Gen 3 OU. It gets better mileage with HP Ghost/Bug in Ubers due to the amount of Psychic types.
Also, I think HP Ghost might be the best for Rayquaza, since Phoebe and 7th Gym are the biggest hurdles for Rayquaza.

Putting out so much quality recently, well done
24:28 One of the rare moments Kingdra takes a super effective hit
The little puddles if you are curious, is actually the hot springs, which the town is known for Scott. It is pretty neat that they include that in the Generation 3 content to pay homage to the quirks of each town. ^_^
Scott, I continue to enjoy your content and the improvements you keep making to the UI. I also really appreciate how much you shout out others in the community with links. It's so great to see the collaboration/support for others.
Very nice! Rayquaza is such a top tier Pokémon, definitely one of my favorites! Great job Scott, you’re improvements and knowledge on these runs are showing 💯
The upload rate is crazy. I'm a new fan and I'm definitely impressed with the coded overlay. Super smart and unique :)
When you talked about crunch lowering special defense in gens two and three and then physical defense in Gen 4 onwards, one move that wasn't consistent with what you said was shadow ball. In gens two and three Shadow balls a physical move but lower special defense
Good point and yeh I thought shadow Ball was crap before I committed to it once on a surskit run
I'm like this move is VERY GOOD on a special attacker because I can cheese matchups with a pokemon like dusclops claydol n milotic tentacruel were it takes TEN DECADES to ko them otherwise plus its busted with belly drum because not much resists shadow Ball besides Sidney who if you need to cheese that fight YOU DONT N WONT get through the league anyways, Sidney is not any better than wally lol
The best way to beat Norman: Protect vs Slaking.
Or dig
Part of me was hoping for Rayquaza vs Mewtwo, but now I get an extra video to look forwards to!
The production value in your videos is absolutely unreal. How moves change depending on stat changes or opp pokemon and them opp pokemon moves. Unreal. Subbed!
Glad you like the overlay! I’m constantly working to improve it. Some new additions coming soon :)
I'm pretty sure that Roxanne's Nosepass will only use Rock Tomb if you outspeed. Since your speed was already dropped by Geodude, you undersped her so she never selected it.
It’s going to be a great month. Thank you for the near daily content. I’m excited
Another great video from you. Nice work Scott.
Also so many uploads! Scott you been putting in that work!
Hello Scott and Denis!
I think it's pretty obvious this will be a dominant performance.
Let me preface this comment with this: Scott, I love all of your content and I am very thankful you continue to produce these videos at such a high level for us week in and week out.
Now for the feedback: as a regular viewer of this channel, it’s frustrating to see new videos with OLD gameplay, so you’re making some of the same mistakes I thought you had corrected. I understand things get prioritized and deprioritized based on time of year and stuff, but just in general, hearing something was recorded awhile ago is kind of a buzzkill.
In the end though, it’s all love Scott and can’t wait for the next one ❤
100% feel you on this one.
@@ThorsShadow I try to give constructive feedback that I know can help Scott down the line 🤷🏻♂️
I find them enjoyable when I view them from a different perspective than more recent runs. It's been really fun watching him get to the point where his optimizations end up with almost zero resets for each Pokemon. These older videos with modern commentary are a rare glimpse into the mental progression that goes into being a solo speedrunner, and I like that. While it's not for everyone, perhaps viewing it through a similar lens might help you appreciate them more than you currently do.
@@wilhelmisaac I certainly enjoy the learning curve, it’s just that he’s already DONE the learning curve in other videos. So I feel like I’m rewatching the learning curve, you know what I mean?
@@kingcygnus yeah, I feel ya, but at least with gen 3 I give it more of a pass since compared to 1 and 2, he’s done so few runs and hasn’t memorized all the little nuances (not to mention the newer the game, the greater its underlying complexity).
I’ve also noticed that if a video is TOO old, he’ll just scrap it and do a new run or add a new one to the end like with the 2-stage fire Pokémon video.
Regardless, I’m sure more than anything it’s a quality vs quantity battle for him right now as he’s trying to crank out so many videos this month. At least he didn’t try to make a 10 minute video explaining that all the Regis Pokémon start with explosion? Lol
I love that enduring stubbornness to take on Steven while being in the 50s 😂 Great vid and it is quite nice to see how you’ve improved from here to the other ones you recorded after this!
I would assume that Kyogre and Groudon would be a VS vid as well as the Latis. I hope the Regis would be a triple threat vid. Might take longer but it def would be the best way for them haha
The Regis are impossible unless you alter their starting moveset. They only start with Explosion in gen 3
It feels crazy to think that the sceptile video was almost a year ago. I feel like I literally watched that yesterday.
Have I really been watching you for over 2 years now?! How time flies.
Rayquaza is really good and it's a cool pokemon. In my first playthough of emerald I felt so satisfied when I caught it with an ultra ball.
Basically, Steven was the major wall for it, but if you'd like to avoid poison, you have used substitute and combine it with rest for the Skarmory and hold the shell bell instead of pacha Berry. I think that you've done it in a lower level like level 58 with the right rng. But regardless you've done an amazing job with Rayquaza. The way you're always learning and adapting is incredible. Well done! 😊👏👏👏
Hi Scott love ur vids and thanks to talk of Squidgy, I discovered him like 1 or 2 months and I think you inspired him ( I like the term HM friend too)
I think for a solo playthrough, Rayquaza should get HP Flying as it gives it some synergy with Dragon Dance. It's a broken Pokemon but with HP Flying it becomes even more nuts.
Nah. I think the big obstacles for Rayquaza are Tate and Liza and Phoebe. HP Ghost is better utilized than having HP Flying for STAB. Besides, Aerial Ace is very handy for Evasion cheese.
@@shadowtitanx3962 nope
Love that you’re trying to optimize your gameplay and be cognizant of your biases. But just remember not to be too hard on yourself! You play 99% of these runs optimally and us in the comments only nitpick the last 1%. Keep up the great content!
The thing you call tranpolines in flannerys gym are geysers, a normal thing in a town with hot springs near a volcano
Emerald was one of my favorites as a kid so seeing scotts thoughts content on emerald brings me joy especially since im bedridden atm cause of covid lol
Get well soon!
All hail the legendary danger noodle! Thanks for another Gen 3 video!
have you ever considered the king's rock held item in these playthroughs? 10% chance to make an opponent flinch, which can be crucial in the right situations
Excited for Kyogre tomorrow haha. Probably will be even more busted than Rayquaza, that thing just hits so insanely hard and mono-water is a great typing to have. You just click water moves and even the resists die in two hits.
Can't wait to see that Venomoth playthrough of emerald tomorrow ^^
Best way to remember the typings of moves pre-Gen 4; Eeveelution types and Dragon are special.
This is the run I've been waiting for! Yay! Also, Trapinch in Emerald just because of how bad it is
got a chuckle out of me with "Flannery is going to be a breeze. Actually she won't be because I have airlock", good one, top comedy
My final move pool for RayQuaza has always been Dragon Claw, Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, and Aerial Ace. Wipes out everything due to the Special Attack stat and sheer lack of high SpDef for most trainers/Leaders/Elite 4. You can wipe the Elite 4 with those with absolutely no issues.
Finally it's the pool noodle's turn.
I love this godly green tier busting noodle
The sky noodle is calling! The tier list shall bow down and tremble!
Truly
I gotta say I really like the animations and yeah really enjoy you NOT talking about other peoples videos. Dont care if someone else did it, someone else did it before them, ideas are not owned
IMO it's important to cite sources and also fit into the community of people doing this style of content. I'm not particularly into the idea of just being my own island never referencing or interacting. Sounds lonely. And boring.
Just some advice: Whenever you do the next Speedrun, I suggest using a smaller based power move depending on the opposing Pokémon before knocking it out with your "To-Go" move. That way, you don't put the trainers into healing range, waste time dealing with Super, Hyper, Max Potions and Full Restores as well as increased chances of beating the record. You're doing great by the way but I figured I'd throw a tip in there. Please do more of these! Oh and **clicked subscribe and like**
There ya go! Happy New Year!
Good tip! Thanks for sharing it :) I really appreciate the helpz
Accidentally got a Z on the end there, phone wouldn’t let me remove it
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon
I'm honored you replied. There were times you could've used Twister and then Dragon Claw or Ancient Power even if it would've did close to nothing. It would've been a perfect set up. Specifically, majority of the gym battles you did, etc.
Nice! My favourite Squidgy saying is calling Lance the liar with the fliers.
I agree, it was nice that they gave you the option to jump straight back to Petalburg after beating the Lavaridge Gym in ORAS, since with no Surf and no Fly, it's a pretty long trip.
But then they ruined all of the goodwill by not giving you the option *not* to quick jump back to Mauville after beating the Petalburg Gym and picking up Surf, since that opens up so many optional areas like Sea Mauville and it's not even a huge timesave since it also opens up the shortcut across Route 103. I'd much rather take the long way from Petalburg, but there's still no Fly so that's not an option.
I heard the name Squidgey and laughed a little. It made me think of the kid's show Justin Time, only to hear you say it was named after a subscriber lol which is also pretty cool you did that!
No one:
Absolutely no one:
Scott: Rayquaza is a balanced attacker
I didn’t know about Ancient Power’s Omniboost until I started watching challenge videos. I had no idea you could get multiple Omniboosts in a battle!
youre spoiling us between you and Jrose im going to have challenges until the end of the Year
I can't wait to see this TEAR through the game!!!
19:00 I do, every single time
I love how casually you said "I caught a Magikarp, named her Bruno."
I'm DED. 🤣🤣🤙
I'm glad you're using a proper date format and not the weird American one where you're never sure if it's DD/MM or if it's MM/DD and you gotta hope it wasn't on the 1st to 12th of any month.😄
Love watching you vids, so fun hearing how you like to optimize each game. Kyogre coming tomrrow??
That was clutch as hell against Watson!
Kecleon might be a challenge whenever you get around to it
So much nostalgia for rayquaza, one of my dear faves
bruno is a great name for magikarp xD
good work. keep it up :)
I just realized, all these years what I thought was Rayquaza’s chin on its back sprite was actually one of its head fins
Scott: Because he's a grass type, he's resisting my thunderbolts.
Me: Hol' up, isn't he water/grass so thunderbolt is neutral?
I wasn't paying much attention so when you said "I need a better answer for this grass/rock type" I tried to remember which trainer in emerald has a venomoth
As a kid I never realized you could sleep at the weather institute to heal. It made things so difficult back then!
"Rest to win a place in my heart" oh scott, thats cute
This is gonna be a stomp
As Space Big mean noodle Snake enjoyer. This puts a smile on my face
Starting at 15:30 was a hit of nostalgia. It really did feel huge
28:43 - I always imagine Jim Gaffigan's whale call from his skit on Whales with the Wailord.
I feel like we need an intervention for Scott, he's too addicted to set up moves after so much gen 1 play, we need to help him learn to boost in moderation and only when needed.
Scott, what gen did you start playing Pokémon and what’s your favorite gen?
Keep up the awesome videos man!
cant wait to see a slacking run
i think those things in flannery's gym are muddy geysers. it took me a while (over a decade...) to realise this, but they don't just teleport randomly, the ones on the bottom floor shoot you straight up and the ones on the top floor you fall down
This run needs a redue. Love you Scott but it's like once you got dragon dance your brain was like must use must use. Your a special attacking god dragon throw dragon dance in the trash in gen 3 and treat my boy right. The 7th gym would have been washed away with surf spam. Still great. Video keep it up ❤
Funniest part of this run was Gym Leader Norman saying "I cant believe it, I lost to Scott?"
Pumping out those videos ?!
I love it 😍
Almost one a day until december 25th!
Now I am hyped
In case you weren't aware, Mega Rayquaza is so OP that Smogon banned it from Ubers, which is their banned tier. Mega Ray is the reason the banlist has a banlist. (Well, and Zacian...)
No offense Scott but your videos are excellent.
I forget about the Slateport City thing too. I don't play new playthroughs of Emerald that much either though lol
At 6:30, Plusle and Minun don't have static, but can still paralyze with other moves. If you out speed, they aren't much threat.
Rayquaza having a mega actually makes the most sense out of all the pokemon lore wise. It literally eats meteors.
Kyogre does really well in Emerald solo run. I've nuzlocked the game with it easily. Rayquaza can do that too but but there are a couple fights where you need luck.
Can you and Jrose please coordinate? I don't have enough time for daily releases from BOTH of you. Great stuff as always Scott, keep it up.
Pick up a book sometime maybe?
Commenting on Scott's comment at 6:55, the Ancientpower omniboost upon KO triggered causing Scott's 17th reset at 32:16, so it does occur in Gen 3.
And with that, I have three synonyms: HM slaves, HM mules, HM friends.
I can't wait for Kyogre's solo run
Oh my glob!! Does this mean we will FINALLY be getting Kyogre soon?! Much needed solo run
Kyogre + Thunder = Broken strategy
@@KainaX122 oh absolutely Kyogre is a titan
Please don’t take globs name in vain thanks
Kygore best gen 3 legendary
@@jackruby6696 oh my glob, don’t be such a party pooper
I would’ve used bulk up instead of dragon dance since you probably don’t need the speed boost Matt. Good stuff though
great video scott, weird question, why did air lock not trigger? does sunny day not count?
Rayquaza was supposed not have any resets! You should redeem on that! But excellent level, the level was perfect!
I will redeem it later! Don't worry :)
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon cool! And thanks for one more fun challenge! The ones with the legends are surely the best btw!
Gen 1 move reminder/relearner is on the SS Anne alongside the nonexistent heal room. Check harder the next time you're there.
Rayquaza: im a god of the sky nobody can best me
Myghtyena: rawr
Rayquaza: oh shit
"... my fierce fish, Bruno the Magikarp. I'm sure he's gonna make a splash in this battle." lol. And then it gets outsped and oneshot.
Rip Bruno, he did his best
Bruno the Magikarp is Denis for Emerald Runs.
The things in flannery’s gym are like steam geysers since it’s like a hot spring over a volcano
Scotty! Question, why not use overheat in Place of thunder bolt for skarmory and cradally and white herb against Steven to reset your special attack to knock both of them out? Then dragon dance them out
This is not something I thought of! Great idea. I need to work to remember the white herb. Hopefully we will see me use it soon.
Scott saw the month of Jrose and said challenge accepted
Haha been planning this since like May~, so I was sort of surprised when he announced it too. We would have started around the exact same time if I didn't get Covid :(
Bashes head off Steven for almost 30 in game minutes.
Realizes Rayquaza can learn flamethrower and fire blast.
'Polish off' sounds a bit naughty.
Hey Scott! i've been following since about 1000 followers and I was wondering if you would like to make an Umbreon Gen 2 video with me. Umbreon is my favorite pokemon and I would love to learn more about gen 2 with you, youre one of my favorite youtubers to watch!
People always say that rayquaza didn't need a mega, but the design of mega Ray is more than enough to justify that choice
I call my HM cohorts Utilitymons lol, but this term also applies to pickup/frisk/trace havers and any pokemon with teleport, covet, trick or thief. What can I say, they're utilities.
