The scratches that his clients are paying through the ass to remove are being induced upon the finish during "Step 3" of Paul's routine. You see.....Paul is not using a Grit Guard in that single wash bucket of his and to further add insult to injury; he chooses to use a sponge instead of a Chenille wash mitt.
maverick buckley Not more than a sponge does. No way. And whatever little dirt is on the mitt is taken off with a proper grit guard. Microfiber Chenille is good but Sheepskin is be$t.
+The1WhoKnowsTheTruth You're so right, I do own a small Car Wash in Mexico City and I have to use 2 buckets to properly wash the cars: one to soap and other to rinse the sponge... otherwise I'd transfer dirt to the paint.
+TitaniumFox95 ( tips, tricks and builds) These extremely rare and expensive cars were basically made to be looked at. Most of these will only gain value over the years if in good condition. On the other hand there`s plenty enough of nice sunny days to practically enjoy the ride and people that can buy these usually have much more great cars suitable for daily driving like bentley, maserati or even rolls royce.
The sunlight and sponges part I get. However, I don't understand what is bad about cleaning the wheels after the paint? Isn't it better to do it after rather than before?
If you clean and dry the paint, you don't want to put dirt/water on it again when you clean the wheels/wheel arches, plus the products used for this cleaning are more aggresive than the ones for the paint
I know what you mean, clean the spunge in one bucket and use the other one to wash the car with, but if you listened carefully and look carefully you can see it are 'two buckets in one'' the bucket exists out of two parts, the filth and dirt sinks to the bottom wich is separated with a net so the dirt falls trough and sinks and stays at the bottom. Just saying.
***** Screw two buckets. If I was advertising washes for cars like this, I'd have a dozen buckets and use each sponge once on both sides. In other words, I'd never reuse a sponge after dipping it back into a bucket. Shit...i'd use a brand new sponges each time.
There's a lot of negative comments in this comment section regarding his cleaning method. This video is 11 years old and the methods he is using were bang up to date at the time. If you have a look on his website you'll see that he has evolved with the times and changed his methods considerably. Bearing in mind this was back when people got a raging stonker over wonder wheels.
List of things he did wrong: 1) Used an aggressive TFR instead of a much safer strip snow foam 2) He did not use rinse bucket or at least spray off the sponge before getting more shampoo 3) He used a sponge which just pushes dirt around 4) Always do the wheels first 5) Always rise the wheels first before using agitation also I don't think he even cleaned the inside of the wheels 6) That is not how you apply polish or cutting compound to a pad 7)He did not do a test section with various polishes or compounds first and just assumed that combination would work the best 8) That is way too big of a pad for this car and poor technique cheers!
For those newbs who say that what he does is wasteful and poor..... This video was taken over 10 years ago, when detailing wasn't anymore advanced than this.... two-bucket method and grit-guards didnt exist back then. Now we have dedicated buckets with grit-guards, foam cannon, iron-X (and similar metal removal sprays).... a lot of tools that used to be unobtainably expensive, are now common place and very inexpensive. Paint depth gauges? used to cost thousands... now a decent one runs about $150 and can come with a camera. And the video was edited poorly as it is.... Also, Paul Dalton is still the best detailer in the world.... he's at a level where the amount of work he can put into a car's cleanliness is beyond obsessive. Its not uncommon for him to spend over 100hours on a car on cleaning, restoring and paint correction. I have a side business detailing cars.... I dont make any money just doing a regular wash and simple wax... that costs me more in labor and products than the $60 i charge. I make big bucks by doing paint correction and sealant applications. Minimum 1-step correction runs $250. Multi-step correction which can add up to having the car for several days including sealing the paint and the wheels.... you're looking at $600 minimum. I work out of a small rental space. I can make a solid $3000/mo just on detailing/correction on top of my full-time day job after my overhead is paid for. For your daily driver? A simple two-bucket method, clay and wax is all you need and that takes just a few hours, if that.
***** The bucket is a £1000 bucket which negatively charges the water forcing 100% of particles into the base of the bucket whilst positively charging the sponge therefore all particles are pulled off the sponge when dipped in
Yes you are right he should be using 2 buckets, he probably knows he is putting swirl marks but knows he's going to polish it back later on. This guy is only called the "best" because he charges too much and uses really expesive products. There are loads of other professional valeters out there that can do just as good a job or even better with reasonably priced products. He's just selling an impression of being the best and there are people out there willing to pay for this imaginary quality. For example if that wax was so wonderful then it should be preventing swirl marks and dirt sticking to the precious paintwork in the first place, so no need for him putting so much effort trying to polish and levelling the surface the second time round. So there's nothing extraordinary about what his doing.
+headbandassasin LMFAO Why don't you think before making embarrassing comments that clearly reflect your lack of intelligence! Stupid on many levels it doesn't even dignify a repose.
I wash cars myself(mostly classics) and i can't really tell that this man is any master of cleaning since like many people already said before: You don't wash cars in the sun!
Yeah i know what you mean =) But im pretty sure this bloke is just taking it a tad to fair, i suspect if you knew what you was doing and you had some experience with good cleaning products you could whip up a nice clean car for cheap. I will find out soon as im doing a Car Valeting course, kind of ironic they posted this on youtube when they did aha =D
Lewis Jones You do it like this but with cheaper products. If you want to go even cheaper then you will start scratching the paint, and then you may as well take it to an automatic car wash. You can skip stages like claying and polishing, but you have to do them if you want the result. Nothing he does here is very expensive, except for the power tools and his time.
John Fisher To be fair, he does spend a lot of time, and a lot of expensive products on the cars, imagine spending like two hours on a maseratti and waxing it by hand and then being called by some rich fuck 15 miles away to clean up some bird shit from his 458 italia. He definitely deserves that 5 grand. wealth people pay for comfort and service not necessarily product.
Fair play to the guy.! The main ingredient in his car cleaning is bullshit.!!. And a neck with more brass than a brass band... If you could charge 5k a day to work you would. And don't argue you wouldn't
I can't believe this guy used a sponge to wash to wash a car when all decent valeters or detailers recommend the use of a good quality deep pike lambs wool mit... Applying the wax by hand like he done is unheard of too.
+uncertainty principle for your poor and cheap car maybe, but mine gets special treatment, I drive it down the freeway during rain for a much more thorough high speed wash, also cleans the underside of the car.
That Zymol Vintage Glaze ( 0:09 ) is not £6000. Carnauba lasts a few days, not months ( 4:50 ) and it is quite ridiculous to contaminate with your bare hands!!! Anyone can use overpriced products but Larry Kosilla from AMMO NYC is #1 in my opinion.
Holy $*#t guys, this man is a professional, he doesn't need your stupid tips like "not enough buckets" or "why are you washing it in the sun". This man washes luxury cars for a living, and charges a hell of a lot for it. Im sure he knows exactly what he's doing. Plus, he can examine the car better in the sun, and he washes the car with chilled water, so theres no chance of the paint getting hot and ruining whatever might be on it. Either way, This man can wash a car a hell of a lot better than any of you, even this Ammo dude you people keep talking about.
Know offence but i wash cars in the sun. Just have you a water filter system hooked up. I have one in my mobile van. It purifies the water so when the sun dries it up while im washing, it leaves know water spots. It cost about $400.00. Its worth it. There so many things thats out now that prevent water spot. Dont believe everything you hear about what you dont suppose to do. Positive Flow
Sponge collects lots of tiny dirt particles that are already in the bucket of dirty water and on the surface of the paint and converts them into round shaped scratches(Grit dragging across your paint) caused by circular motion of the car washer's hand then you have to remove all those scratches and this is where the extra cost comes in .Never wash your car with a bucket of water and sponge! Use Sheepskin,Lambswool or deep pile microfibre.Fresh water every time you dipped in!
I use natural and PH neutral soaps, and polishes for my car. But I got a step further than most people as my car is vacuum washed inside and outside. I use a standard fabric stain remover machine inside the car, but the out side I use a large shop-vac with a home made vacuum squeegee that sucks the dirt and soap clean off the car without leaving marks. But after I use a foamer spray on the car to fully soak the car in soapy ph neutral cleaner, then scrub the car with wool mits, than vacuum-squeegee. For rinsing I use a gentle pressure wash, then I do a roll on roll off drying with microfibres cloth till the car is bone dry before I use turtle wax to polish the car via hand.
Aslo Aso Same, but all of the people mentioning this guy and the AMMO NY guy, they damage the paint regardless, using a high pressure water pump to rinse the car also damages the paint, so regardless of all of your hard work, the paint still ends up scratched.
Sponge for washing?? I don't even go my 3000$ car into a cleaner that uses sponges and not a spraying machine! He uses same sponge for upper and lower part of car! And then he get paid to clear those scratches lol!
+Atheist Avenger That's why you shouldn't own a car like that, these cars are incredibly rare and should be kept pristine, wouldn't hesitate to pay £5k for a wash
Atheist Avenger I would write an intelligent response, but then I see your some political wanna be, not only that but you like the fucking Avengers, so embarrassing. As a matter of fact I spend a lot of my day around these types of cars and clean classic Ferraris and Porsches for a living whilst going through Sixth Form, I even clean my Audi the same way, every car should be kept pristine. Saves money in maintenance in the long run and looks nice, not that you care about looking nice, too busy shouting at religious people and pretending to be Thor...
He was right about bird shit. Never, ever wipe it straight off and get to it asap. Birds eat gravel and they poop it out along with lots of fun acids. Wiping it straight off will net you some lovely scratches which goes well with the etching the acid will perform to the clearcoat.
+Tehxido piss on it to break down the bird shit, then lick it off with your tongue, the texture of your tongue is rough enough to take off the bird shit without damaging your paintwork
+Tehxido add clean water to lift it off the paint then use a microfiber towel to soak up anything that remains. Some modern clearcoats will etch no matter what.
I'm a full-time valeter for a hire company. Our cars get a cheap ass shampoo, rubbed over with a big brush (it's okay though, the bristles have some rubber bits on the end), then hosed off with a dribbling garden hose with no pressure to take off the simplest of residue. Only the flat surface of the wheels get a wipe, brake dust stays on the spokes. No drying, no polish or wax. That'll do! :-D I get £6.51 per hour..
3:46 "Before he starts rubbing the scratches out" ... that he put there using a sponge and only one bucket to wash it. Also, dear God his drying technique makes me shiver. World's best car cleaner my ass.
The whole thing is pointless because 24 hours after washing it you're already gonna have dust and dirt on it. Obsessing over every inch of your car is insane. You might as well obsess over getting dirt on your tires and clean them each time you park..
***** I get it if they do this ONCE in a while to truly remove built up gunk in certain places but this is how some people wash their own cars regularly lol. And not even Lamborghinis but shitty old BMW's and ricer rockets.
+Victor Maslo Not really. If not washing the car or washing it incorrectly devalues the car considerably, then this guy is saving them more money than they're spending.
The top of the range of his services has 61 steps of detailing, in this video 5thgear only show u 10% of his job and steps. Larry and Paul both are the top niche professional and master of auto-detailing. None of u guys pay both of Larry and Paul to detail your car and u just simply say Larry is better than Paul without experience their service and just because Larry has more tutorial video than Paul on Social Media / RUclips so it show Larry is better? What a childish kind of thought...
1. For a lot of people the cost of getting their car cleaned by this guy would be more than their car is worth, including myself, lol. 2. Getting to see and work with top tier cars must be quite a nice job to have. 3. If I got my car this thoroughly cleaned and paid £5000 for it, I'd be so scared of getting a single spec of dirt on it that I'd probably feel put off from diving it, lol.
Blahblah. Having watched this and other crap, I had Dalton do my car a couple of years ago. What a load of bull. He was slow, a bit sloppy, preoccupied with clients that had more expensive cars (he was only doing a Z8 for me, and perhaps it wasn't flashy enough) and I thought he was a total waste of time and money. I've seen better jobs done for a fifth of the £1,000+ he charged me.
yeah, this guy knows what he’s doing. He’s a perfectionist for the prices that he charges. He better be. Otherwise the owner will be calling him back in no time..
There's no denying he's a genius lol...
(not at cleaning cars, but at getting away with asking 5k for it) xD
Mark H Hmm... What if.... She's "to die for" beautiful and you're a billionaire anyway? :D
+Mark H well if u had a bugatti and there was a blond too, i think you would :)))
+Zack Haha!
he washed the wheels after the body...
I mean it takes days to do this, he uses thousands of dollars worth of product and the results are marvelous.
3:45 he also checks the car's blood pressure for 5k
xD

obviously leabians are all thumbs up.
LOL!!
mr. rambo for the win hahaha!!
And....2 mins later a bird decides to shit on it.
+Srib yea tha's why, he apply wax ;) so ther's no damage on paint in very expensive car ...
that literally happened to me yesterday.
+Srib but then he just has to rewash that area, it would probably benefit him cause more money
Haha Yea.
I'd never take her out again if she did that.
Hey, I don't blame him. People with money will always find ridiculous ways of spending it and this guy capitalized on that stupidity. Congrats to him

+Chema Brinval You guys are both doing it wrong, I wash my sponge with the water hose, that transfers zero dirt to anything but the ground.
***** you're doing it right, but it's the same than rinsing the sponge on clear water...
after treating my car with a perfect detailing like this, i would not dare to drive it out ever again lol
+boy638 Me neither, sit in the garage with a glass of wine and look at it LOL
+boy638 its only 5 grand dude its a bargan

Sunlight, sponge and wheels cleaned after the paint... I'm out...

If you clean and dry the paint, you don't want to put dirt/water on it again when you clean the wheels/wheel arches, plus the products used for this cleaning are more aggresive than the ones for the paint
So when are you supposed to do the wheels? If you do them first you run the risk of scratching the paint
Before so it doesn't matter if you slash the paint because you rince it after
But what about scratching the paint?
the "best" Car washer? and he works in the sunshine?!?!?!??! !??!?!?!
The car soap is pH balanced.
+Steffen S he also uses a sponge what an idiot
+robbert de vries Yea, the car was still covered in mud when he used the sponge too! *sigh*
Vaag I hate this guy, he talks like he is one amazing fucking car washer but he uses a freaking sponge!
robbert de vries Whats so bad about a sponge?
Do you lick your car clean?
Best car detailer and yet he still uses one bucket during a wash? Interesting. Where's Larry from ammo nyc at?
These cars aren't daily drivers so wouldn't get covered in shit like a normal car.
***** Why not use the 2 bucket all the time, as therefore it reduces the chance of extra correction work, let alone this guy uses sponges WTF
He's using a sponge and not a microfiber wash mit and only using single bucket! Crazy how detailing has progressed
List of things he did wrong:
1) Used an aggressive TFR instead of a much safer strip snow foam
2) He did not use rinse bucket or at least spray off the sponge before getting more shampoo
3) He used a sponge which just pushes dirt around
4) Always do the wheels first
5) Always rise the wheels first before using agitation also I don't think he even cleaned the inside of the wheels
6) That is not how you apply polish or cutting compound to a pad
7)He did not do a test section with various polishes or compounds first and just assumed that combination would work the best
8) That is way too big of a pad for this car and poor technique
cheers!
Also washing a car in direct sunlight is a big no no
Your right to this day😂
Well this was back in 2005. Car washing standards were way different back the. 😅

Just take it through a Tesco car wash and save money
Why would you want scratches and swirl marks on cars worth hundreds of thousands? That's going to cost you rather than save you money.
At what point do you begin rubbing off the layers of clear coat over the paint? I assume after a few buffings the clear coat
must be thinning out.

Russell Tang He uses a low pressure water pump and filtered water
Sponge for washing?? I don't even go my 3000$ car into a cleaner that uses sponges and not a spraying machine!
He uses same sponge for upper and lower part of car! And then he get paid to clear those scratches lol!
is there anything that fill in scratches and hardens? (instead of "shaving" away clear coat
OOOHH,microfiber blankets and clay,no one in the world uses that on a car..how exclusive..lol
They do,you don't know how to wash a car
I'll be happy with my $9 turtle wax car wash + any of my old shirts to dry it off :)
I need 3 Days to clean my Car perfectly :D
Drinker?
RP No im a perfectionist ;)
so many car washer experts in this coment section i didnt know there was so much detail in washing a car like using 2 buckets, amazing!!!!
about 99% lol
I prefer Larry at Ammo NYC
Best car detailer and he washed in direct sunlight
Those teeth could use a good buffing
lmfao
- be nice mate
Lol
I couldn't find this detailers link in the description, plz post the link here.
Felt like a long and boring advert by a desperate company as a last ditch attempt at reviving a dying business.
You're right!
+Samara Weaving wanna see a dirty car been cleaned for real? come to my channel!!!
sausagetastic?
"Anyone who wash their car has a small mind."
- Jeremy Clarkson, Top Gear
watching this made me realise how dirty my computer screen is.
i'm embarassed
Don't get him to clean it!
No snow foam, washing in the sun, Best car cleaner in the world my arse
He was right about bird shit. Never, ever wipe it straight off and get to it asap. Birds eat gravel and they poop it out along with lots of fun acids. Wiping it straight off will net you some lovely scratches which goes well with the etching the acid will perform to the clearcoat.
+afrosheenix so what are you mean to do?
+Tehxido piss on it to break down the bird shit, then lick it off with your tongue, the texture of your tongue is rough enough to take off the bird shit without damaging your paintwork
+Tehxido add clean water to lift it off the paint then use a microfiber towel to soak up anything that remains. Some modern clearcoats will etch no matter what.
+Tehxido Keep a bottle of quick detail spray around, spray it on, let it set, and wipe it off.
Ammo nyc is the best detailer period
If you're good at something never do it for free - Joker
+SomethingPossibly tell me more about your pro car cleaning knowledge master.
+BananaBread I'm no genius, I don't claim to be. I just know this is detailing 101; you don't do shit like this.
I find that washing with an old sweeping brush achieves best results.
OK, I really feel dirty now.
The first step in washing is the wheels always wash the wheels first. Or that's what i have been told from car cleaners.
Piss on it lol.
5 grand! my $9.50 wash n wax does prefectly well thanks. Ill keep the $4990.50 thanks.
TheFunkhouser no its £5,000 its nearly $6,500
Imagine the saving you'd make over the life time of your car!
tell me the best polish u use for car giving a great shine for black
sad what people spend money on
+Victor Maslo Not really. If not washing the car or washing it incorrectly devalues the car considerably, then this guy is saving them more money than they're spending.
+Victor Maslo To ultra wealthy people 5,000 is nothing.
+Victor Maslo Them spending this money now goes to a not-rich-car-cleaner, which is a good thing.
+Victor Maslo Typical answer from an uneducated person tbh
One bucket. I love it. You don't need 2 buckets and all that grit guard crap.
5k and your car gets washed in the sun with a sponge?????????
in the sun, 1 bucket, is that a sponge? Doesn't seem very high end to me!
Larry at AMMO NYC would have a heart attack!
I miss this show.
If you want to clean a car perfect, you HAVE to remove wheels.
This guy is nothing but a crook.
This is pretty much a video of what NOT to do when washing/detailing your car.
+Neil Lee Yeah, Im sure he has no clue what he is doing. Pls enlighten us.
For the wheel cleaner, is there a specific name for it? Is it a mixture he makes himself or can/could I find it somewhere?
It's a combination of man mayonnaise and chef's special sauce
Thats not Larry from AMMONYC thoooooo
Using a gloss meter is the best to see how well you detail.
So many car- washing experts in the comments. Next life, try studying in school.
I know, one of them thinks rain is a cleaning product.
So what are you trying to say??
That's awesome. I guess if you're really passionate about something, and driven, you can be successful in almost any proffession.
Rich that don't know that to do with 5k.
How can i find these products asap
Not only does he use a sponge, but he uses one bucket.
I wonder what Larry from AMMO would say about this... I think this is bullshit.
+Audiojackful I concur!
+Audiojackful hahaha! maybe 100% of his liquids comes from ammo
No wonder he´s laughing lol
The detail guys in the US would obliterate this guy. Washing in direct sunlight. Not using two buckets etc. This guy is minor league at best.
It makes me proud to know he imports the finest quality products from America
Fifth Gear. this vid hurts your credibility ...
yeah, this guy knows what he’s doing. He’s a perfectionist for the prices that he charges. He better be. Otherwise the owner will be calling him back in no time..
