Actually this video have been years on youtube all ready
There were many fronts. Germany was 50% of axis total strength, and Germany spent 60% of her resources against the western allies, but 70% of her manpower against the USSR. This is because the war in the west was for many years an air and sea war, more expensive than land war. The axis as a whole devoted just 35% of its resources fighting the USSR, and the USSR was getting substantial material and logistical support from the western allies, 300,000 trucks and 13,000 planes, for example.
Substantial support from Lend Lease did not begin arriving until after Stalingrad and Kursk - by then the Soviets had broken the German advance and had gained the initiative. Lend Lease certainly made the drive to Berlin go much faster.
i think it was a lot more than that considering also many soviet citizens fought for Germany

I'm in awe of these men. Greatest generation indeed. Balls of steel
This documentary is well done- thanks to all who were involved in this project. WW II displayed very clearly the battle between good and evil. The importance of planning, unity of purpose/ mission, sacrifice, resolve, etc but above all the power of Providence- (the Allied scheduled June 5 for D-Day but due to heavy rain & bad weather had to return. Next day June 6,1944 - during meeting Gen. Eisenhower after a long pause, look up and said “ Let’s Go”. For sure he was praying the whole time). Meanwhile on the German side, Gen. Rommel thought that bec of the bad weather the Allied will not attack that day. The storm became a blessing in disguise. God works in mysterious ways. There is nothing new under the sun. Good always Win- in the END.
Actually, on the night of June 5th, Ike was given a Weather Report telling him that he'd have 24 hours of good weather on June 6th. (The Nazis, having lost the Battle of the Atlantic, had also lost any assets in the Atlantic to tell them that Good Weather was coming in -- from the West!)
Would Ike have said "Let's Go!" if he did NOT get that Weather Report?
We will never know for sure, but I think he WOULD!
The age of the actual documentary is around 2009. The title of the episodes have been changed to disguise this and in hope to attract more people ro view the video. With the aim and the desire of getting more clicks and advertising revenue from the algorithm
Dank you

Not to diminish the sacrifice of everyone involved with D-Day and the Western front, but the outcome of the war was already determined before a single foot stepped on Normandy. Germany's Luftwaffe had already permanently lost air superiority, her industry was being blown to smithereens, she was rapidly losing oil supplies, supply chains were breaking down, and was already in full-scale retreat on the Eastern front. All D-Day did was hasten the war and keep the ravenous Soviets from continuing on through Western Europe... that is the story that should be celebrated when it comes to the D-Day campaign... that at least the Allies did one thing right in protecting part of Europe from the ravages of communism.
The man on the front cover is still alive.
A brilliant man would find a way to not fight a war.

Disagree. Japan was stretched thin and held up in China. They could not attack the Soviets. The hardest fighting in the European front was with the Soviets and after Stalingrad Germanys fate was sealed. The US certainly did its part but to say D day win the war is completely ludicrous.

@@Andrew-df1dr You're right, the Soviets wouldn't have stopped until they got to Lisbon.
80 years on we are still being fed the fable of " D-Day won WW2 ". The Americans certainly won the war in the Pacific, but they and the Brits did not "win the war" in Europe. Germany had been defeated long before D-Day on the eastern front, where 80% of the German military was situated and was being bled white by massive Soviet armies in battles of attrition they couldn't sustain. Before D-Day the Soviets had already reached Poland and Romania and were poised to destroy Army Group Center in their summer offensive. The Allied landing in Normandy did not "win the war", but what it did accomplish was end the war sooner and save western Europe from Soviet occupation.
That wrong. You can't fight a war on two fronts.
It seems like you wrote 80% of that comment straight from a book
If I had been lacking in conviction and less articulate in expressing my opinion I imagine you wouldn't have drawn that conclusion. I enjoy writing and I put some effort into it - as I also have done into researching the events of WW2, which has been a particular area of interest since I was very young. We all draw conclusions about these events from books and documentaries, but I am the author of my own opinions - the facts stated in my post are all readily available here on RUclips or by simple Google searches.
@@Ronald-xn2ui apparently the British and Americans didn't realize that "you can't fight a war on 2 fronts" since they fought both the Japanese and Germans simultaneously on opposite sides of the world. Last I checked they made out alright.

WW-2 was decided at Stalingrad, Kursk and Operation Bagration, 1942-44. 25 million Soviet military and civilian dead during WW-2. 500.000 American dead on 2 fronts. British Empire lost 500.000 on 2 fronts. European and Pacific theatres.
True
The Russians were entering Berlin to end the war even if D-Day did not take place .
How many did the germans lose?

@@Bloody-April-1917 mental to think. Wasnt Operation Barberosa was the worst of the battles in terms of loses?
Correct. Stalingrad, Kursk, balgaration.
Censored video equal partially truth...what a shame it was a good video.
D is what ? I mean the abbreviation
The D stands for "day" actually. So expanded D-Day = Day-Day. Kind of clumsy, but that's it.
“D” was simply a planning notation on an uncertain military calendar, an entry around which to plan an invasion. “D minus 4” was four days before the attack. “D plus 2” was two days into the invasion, and so forth. “D-Day” represented the central event itself: the invasion. Everything had to be planned, backwards and forwards, from that central event.
The D represents day but there’s a D-Day and even H-Hour for other operations besides Overlord. This just became an associated name with the event because of the historical context and magnitude.
D-Day probably shortened the war by 4-6 months but it didn't win the war. The Red army would have done it anyway. By the time of D-Day the German army had been degraded massively by its losses in the East.
D-Day didn't win the war. The war was won and lost on the eastern front.
I.e. Stalingrad, Greece, Africa was a little earlier but still wasted material, men, and munitions.
Sure. And Russia is just liberating Ukraine right now 😂
3 of 4 German soldier served on the Ost front.
When you consider that winning WW2 meant preventing the SU from seizing and occupying all of Europe then certainly this is what won WW2 lol
WRONG. The Eastern front by themselves they will not be able to WIN the WAR
its a good channle but youtube has decided to blur out some parts of the video they must think we are all children and for that i cant watch it just tell us its not suitable for children

The landing in southern France occurred in August and the assault went all the way to the German border with very little resistance.
The Allies could have threaten German forces in Normandy, waited until they were flanked out by the southern landing forces and then landed without any opposition

See that Google Bezos guy, I'm doing better.
I don’t understand why the Allies didn’t or couldn’t take out the German pill boxes on the beaches. They had air power to do it. Can someone explain?
The pillboxes were dug deep into the terrain and were built with reinforced concrete…..twenty to thirty feet deep. Shells hit all around them but these were not precision guided bombs. In the end they did very little damage.
Thank you for answering. I’ve been a WWII enthusiast for years with an interest primarily in the European conflict between Germany and Russia. But, I’ve become obsessed with the D Day landings after watching A Band of Brothers. I have so many questions
I've been wondering that myself. I think part of the answer is in the video. A couple of ships came in closer, well more should have done that. It does mention he pill boxes were resistant to bombing, good point but not mentioned were the lack of craters on the beach. I believe this is an aspect of history that will have to wait until secrets are released -in about a hundred years or so
@@europhile2658- But, it wasn’t just the air bombers. The Allies also dropped soldiers behind enemy line. Btw, I did hear the narrator say that the pillboxes were indestructible but didn’t the paratroopers take care of them?
What is 13 seconds of an ENTIRELY blurred-out screen supposed to do for the viewer? Seriously stupid to show an entire screen of blur. Find some other footage to show, maybe that's a better way to treat the viewer like a grade-school student.
Why is he leaving out all the strategies and things that the Americans did to make this happen and also why is he claiming that some British dude invented things that a lieutenant and two captains came up with from the United States Army?
Is this actual real footage or is it fake?
It was not a Gamble, the Allies had enormous advantages in Aircraft, Manpower, Ammunition, Tanks, Food, you name it and the invasion was held while the Germans were fighting in the East against the mighty Bolsheviks army ! Not a Gamble but a done deal !

While acknowledging it was an incredible achievement, I personally think that saying D-Day was a gamble is a bit disingenuous. Just looking at the sheer numbers shows that the Germans were out gunned ie. the Allies landed almost 160,000 troops and faced only about 50,000 German soldiers. The sheer volume of men, equipment, and supplies that they were subsequently able to bring into action in the many months ahead reflects that they had bottomless resources that the Germans simply didn't have.
Had the Western Allies never attacked in Normandy, nor in fact taken any further action in the war anywhere in Europe, I have no doubt that the Soviets would have eventually won the war simply by grinding down the Germans as they were doing.
and occupied Europe
@johndawes9337 Exactly. Western Europe is indebted to the young men who risked, or lost, their lives because we know about life in Eastern Europe under the Soviets in comparison.
Blurry stories.
Here for the footage,. not for the story-line..
😂😂😂DDay didn't win WW2,80% of the German forces died against the Soviets, Why try and take credit when it's not there, more fell on one Eastern front Battle than the whole Western campaign
The Soviets(Stalin) were cavalier about the loss of humsn life. Us and the British were not as wasteful with men's lives.
@carlgreisheimer8701 doesn't change the fact that the Soviets did more to win the war than the others put together,
@@bernardinglis4232 I think in terms of contribution it should be split up into 3 categories the war on land, the war in the air and the war at sea. In terms of the Land war it was the Soviets who indeed did the most against the German army, but in the air war against the Luftwaffe along with the destruction of German war industries and the naval war against the U-boats and the Japanese navy in the Pacific it was the Allies.
@Bullet-Tooth-Tony- America won the Pacific war, as for Europe if you destroy 80% of anyone's military the honours are the Soviets, the Western ally's contribution was small, I am not taking anything away from the men who fought on the Western front all brave men, but in the big picture it was the Soviets,
@@Bullet-Tooth-Tony- I am pretty certain that the AXIS air forces lost a high number of planes against the Russians. Look at the huge losses the Luftwaffe suffered during the Battle of Stalingrad.
