Thank you for making a video about Annie. She should be more well known. Madam CJ Walker stole her ideas and her formula. Walker just added violet to her formula to make it smell better. The movie Self Made is trash and didn't represent Annie truthfully. Annie was not biracial and she did not only employ light skin black women to sell her products like the trash movie portrayed. Annie helped a lot of people with her wealth.
The reason why I never watched that film, I know Ms. Malone wouldn't been represented fairly.

*Thank you* for featuring her story and yes in the movie Self Made she was portrayed as a villian who stole Walker's IP and advanced due to colorism. However, Walker's brand was more widely known perhaps because her husband had a marketing business. Based on the info presented here, it appears her business was the forerunner and template for many corporate businesses and franchises of the 20 and 21st centuries, including Mary Kay Cosmetics. Her story and contributions should be more widely known.

I enjoyed this story about Ms. Annie Malone, I'm familiar with her story about her haircare business, but you featured somethings that I wasn't aware of. Great investigating, presentation, photos and backstory, too.

I have books on her and have known about her for over 20 years, in 2002 I toured Madame C. J. Walker's warehouse Indianapolis and it was there that I learned about her. The tour guide openly admitted that Madame Walker modeled her business, after this illustrious whom she trained with and was one of her top sales girls. I became very interested in this forgotten woman. I've nothing but good things about her. No, I did not see the movie/mini series on Madame C. J.Walker. It sad that the two were at odds. I like them both, but I can see that MS. Malone did not have the savvy to protect herself. Madame Walker immediately employed Black college educated men to work for her and a recent Law graduate too. She protected her enterprise better, but in the end, her fortune was lost by her daughter spending and partying it away. Maybe some call this justice I don't known. Thanks for doing this video.
Yes, her daughter did party Mrs. Walker's wealth all away. Lavish parties, European trips, beautiful and expensive clothes, no interest in her mother's company or any appreciation for her mother's work. Walker surrounded herself with educated Black people, which may explain why she was able to promote her company better. If I am not mistaken, Ms. Malone, had a beauty culture school on King Drive. It sat where the current Mollison School is located today.

Thank You so much for this piece of history !! I grew up in, and now live in Mississippi. During the 1990's I lived in St. Louis and am very interested in that great city's history. The black history of St. Louis in the early 1900's is amazing. There were so many dynamic, driven, very intelligent men and women who helped make this nation great.
Homer G. Phillips Hospital is one such story.
I am a white retired Physician, and I have reverence, the Highest Respect for the black, women, people of poor background, who prospered during the Edwardian times. Why don't people have the same opportunities, or drive now ?? We are doing something very wrong now.

This is such a valuable channel. It introduces me to so many people from history who deserve to be known. And - as someone who's always been interested in history - when I've known about one of your subjects, I'm generally in awe of your ability to fit in a massive amount of information in a balanced fashion in just 15 minutes.
And I love the way you don't just stop in your research. If another story becomes apparent in your telling of one life, then you'll pursue that as well.
It's a tremendous intellectual knack and you should be celebrated for it.

After watching the Walker série on Netflix I came across this woman’s story and I was so amazed of what she accomplished, unfortunately like you said in your video the Netflix series painted her in a bad light which is unfair, really. This is stunning information. I have been so brainwashed into thinking that African American history is all about defeat, slavery and poverty, I thought that the content was false at first. I checked other sources and confirmed the existence of Annie Malone. Until now I had considered myself educated. Now I have become aware that I am so ignorant. Fascinating life that lady had 😮 Just a sidenote but the word Poro means Reindeer in Finnish, yes the Santa Clauses sleigh pullers. I'm just wondering where she came up with that company name, probably not from the reindeers, but did the word have some other meaning to her.
Later on, Malone changed the company name to the Poro Company after a word from a west African language meaning devotional society.

Thank you for making such an enlightening documentary. I am college educated, born in the U.S and yet have never heard of this amazing self-made woman. Inspiring indeed. Sadly, this history is never taught in U.S schools, even at a college level.
You have to research yourself. I am also college educated but I knew about Tulsa, 1919 riots, Major Taylor, The Don't Buy Where You Can't Work, and other events by reading.

Amazing Brilliant and generous people always get taken advantaged of like Annie Pope. Figures his name was Malone! Maybe because they are the real genuine pure heart and genius always seem defeated in the world but not where it counts the most!

This Feature on Annie Malone was very informative interesting, I had never read or heard anything about her up until recently. The question, becomes why Not, there is African history that has been Buried and Suppressed for obvious reasons! This bring us to contemporary topics like Critical Race Theory, the Truth needs to be taught!

I saw Self-Made and was very annoyed by some of the narratives presented even without knowing who Annie Malone was. Your presentation surely does not sound like the woman was villainous, selfish, exploitive or like Mrs. Malone had stolen from her employee - which is EXACTLY how Self Made portrayed her. Shame on them! I'm an entrepreneur and small business owner in a field with very few Blacks. A lot of things you reported here are along the same lines as what I want to do for my (eventual) employees and community. I will be studying Mrs. Malone. Thank you for introducing me to her.
