We are so glad that the C.J. Walker Mansion has survived and is being used for such a noble purpose. My wife and I passed it many times when we lived nearby in Westchester County and always wondered what would become of it. Madame C.J. Walker was an inspiration to many people, and we are pleased that her legacy continues.
I guess. Still, you can't take it with you. We all know what she's known for. That's making money. I personally don't care about that mansion. RIP to C.J. W💙🕊
You completely skipped over the fact that her company was headquartered in Indianapolis. She lived there before moving to NY, while the company continued to be managed in Indy. The Madame CJ Walker building still stands!
I came to the comments to look for this. As a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated, founded in Indianapolis, Madame CJ Walker is mentioned in our history books. Suprised her Indy foundation was not a part of this documentary.
I live in Westchester County, NY. I drive by this property regularly. I am proud of what it represents. I have also toured the home, truly it's a sight to behold.
She overcame many obstacles and helped a lot of people. It's good to see that her home survived and benefits future generations. Really classic and beautiful style, with balance and taste.
What a story, and what an inspiration to anyone who feels their cards are stacked against them. And the generosity of Madam Walker should be an example to every successful person on how to remember your roots, and how to return something to the community.
She was truly an inspiration and motivating factor in my life. In less than a week after I had read that she was America's 1st self-made female millionaire, I made a small investment in some metal and used it to pull off one of the most successful bank heists in this nation's history, and without ever being apprehended. And then, with as much accuracy as I could muster, I purposefully grazed a few lackadaisical bank tellers in order to incite the level of urgency needed to expedite their slow mathematical skills. My goodness 🤔What is wrong with our school system! How on earth did they get hired at a bank after miscounting my withdrawal request and leaving me shortchanged and feeling robbed of my dreams of acquiring 3 sumptuous estates located in 3 foreign countries. But after I made a furious rush-return to the bank, the grazings worked instant wonders in revitalizing their long-forsaken adding skills. And HOW!
Many people don't believe in helping others. What they do believe in is holding on tightly to whatever they have and they appear to be very successful at doing so and without any regrets.
The barrel ceilings and the electric chandelier caught my attention and the house exterior is stunning. I'm happy the house was saved for the intended purpose. Thank you for sharing the story!
She was not the first black female millionaire it was Annie Turnbo Malone , she also was the one who hired Sista CJ and walker and introduced her to the industry. She worked for Sista Annie as a saleswoman until she eventually took the formula she learned from her boss and copied it and moved to another state and started selling it there with the same name and everything. Annie lived to about 90 and they even celebrate her locally in St Louis til this day.
Thank you for stating the truth. Many of these amazing women should be noticed, and I am not dimming the light of Louisiana born Madame C.J. Walker. I believe that society didn't want people to think that there were multiple women that were millionaires, so they only declared Madame C.J. Walker the millionaire.
First time I hear about this amazing woman, her home, her work, her legacy. Mrs. CJ Walker was and should continue to be an inspiration to all women. I loved that you told her story with respect and very delicate as those were hard times, so sorry a widow with a baby. Incredible how she found the love in her products and with her second husband the business strived. I loved her beautiful Mansion; but most of all that it still stands, a testament to her legacy and her memory. Most Mansions are demolished and it's sad, today I am happy to see this video that the home of a very hard working prosperous woman still stands. Thank You for this video.
Sarah Walker has such a fascinating story!! I'm so glad to see that her beloved home lives on with such a great purpose!!! Thanks for sharing another interesting video!!! 👍👍🙂
I've read about her amazing accomplishments, so to see her home is pretty cool. It's a nice personal side to a historic figure. Women like her and Esté Lauder have built colossal fortunes in the beauty business. How great to be able to see how her life and eventual success was reflected in her home. I loved the harp in the music room. What a great looking house too. Thank goodness it has been preserved for posterity. What a success story reflected in her legacy home. Thanks!
Excuse me!!, "I can't get a decent word in about this topic!!! What does this have to do with Trump, having a Naz meeting at a get together, "Thanksgiving at maralago."Nick Fuentes, A Nazi, "Was the Bell Of The Ball!!!!, As I understand, kanye came, un announced. to his Big daddys , meeting, "saw, heard as I understand what was going on.Trump on the other hand, said to the media, he didn't know" Nick the Nazi, Fuentes was coming to the get together. In all reality, Trump wasnt expecting, "Kanye' to pop up at that meeting, "yet, It did happen. In the conversation, NickFuentes as I understand, spoke of going back to hiring people to take care of houses, even using the word monkey!s, Really!! It's their damn, time, if it get to the point they need service, they hire their own.Are they out of their freaking frocking minds???? This stuff has got to stop!!!!, "You want it, "you got it!!, Toyota!!!!
It was interesting to learn more about Ms. Walker. So glad that house survives and is used for its intended purpose. Thank you, Ken, for another great video!
Wow! Very interesting episode of This House. There are so many interesting mansions in the United States, so you will never run out of new episodes for us. Thanks!
The architect, Brother Vertner Woodson Tandy, was a founding member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. The first collegiate fraternity for African American men. 🤙🏾
I agree Mr. Chodorow. It is a fascinating story. I am very interested in history and it is wonderful that the building remains standing and used to encourage others. She was a pioneer.
Thanks for a very interesting and informative video, from which I learned much new information. One slight correction, however. The Estey organ ( at least the one shown) is a reed organ, not a pipe organ. Toward the end of its existence, Estey ( of Brattleboro, VT) did make a few (not very good) pipe organs, but that was after this house was built and furnished. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed this, and all your videos about these houses and the fascinating people who owned them.
I enjoyed this so much, and wonderful to know the home is still standing, and being used. There is a Madame C. J. Walker Theater still being utilized in Indianapolis.
Thank you for sharing a part of what I consider to be my history because through madam CJ Walker's efforts many African-American women have excelled in business and other endeavors in this country something that her parents and grandparents could have never even imagined! 🌹❤️🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
I pass the CJ Walker Mansion often and I make a note of it every single time. I point it out to everyone it brings great pride. I would live tondo a tour one day.
A'lelia had some funny parties up in there. There is a great documentary on YT from 1980s featuring interviews with many people who knew and/or worked with the Walker ladies.
Thank you for covering this amazing woman. It’s not only a reflection of African American History and the success of women, but of AMERICAN HISTORY‼️🇺🇸❤️😊👩🏿👵🏼👩🏿🦲👳🏾♂️👩🏼🦱👨🏼🦳🧔🏿♂️👩🏻👨🏻🦰👴🏽
Yes and all that hard work and ambition truly exhibited itself around the 1920s in a small handful of wealthy black communities across America. Greenwood Oklahoma for example. Black Wallstreet
Thank you for this. ❤ this summer I was on my way to dinner and we drove pas the house. I didn’t know that she only enjoy the house for year before her death. Very said.
I'm so glad the house is still standing, and that people have taken care of it over all these years. Wha an inspiration Madame CJ Walker is for women today. 🧡🧡
Why did you say that her and her husband “schemed”? They actually developed a plan for her hair care products. A better choice of words could have been used.

Thank God
It is wonderful to have all the skilled detailed work saved and the home restored. The home and story are an inspiration to us all.
It's still an uppity whorehouse?
Cool!
You completely skipped over the fact that her company was headquartered in Indianapolis. She lived there before moving to NY, while the company continued to be managed in Indy. The Madame CJ Walker building still stands!
Very true
Her company building still stands? I didn't know that. Thanks 👍
That's great news!

I live in Westchester County, NY. I drive by this property regularly. I am proud of what it represents. I have also toured the home, truly it's a sight to behold.
I didn't realize that was where it was located. I imagine there's enough to see that I should devote an entire day to viewing it.
Thank you for this! I absolutely love Madame CJ Walker. As a black woman myself, her story has always been an inspiration for me.
It's good to see a good person, who had a bad start, end up doing well for herself. Thanks, Ken!
She overcame many obstacles and helped a lot of people. It's good to see that her home survived and benefits future generations. Really classic and beautiful style, with balance and taste.

Actually 1st black female millionaire is Sarah Rector!

I believe that society didn't want people to think that there were multiple women that were millionaires, so they only declared Madame C.J. Walker the millionaire.
Looks like some additional research is called for.
Not the first black female millionaire, the first female millionaire of any color.
Sarah didn’t earn her money. Annie is the first self made
Madam Walkers accomplishments overshadow her architect’s masterpiece!

God Bless Madame C.J. Walker for being such an inspiration to all of us. I love her 'rags to riches' story. 🙏🤗🙌👏💜
Beautiful home and so tastefully done. I can’t say that about a lot of mansion I have seen. Money can’t buy you taste and clearly she had that.
Very inspiring and beautiful story
Btw: The house is ABSOLUTELY beautiful. She certainly has GREAT taste.
This house was used in Big Puns music video “ You Came Up “
This was awesome 😎 thank you 😊
for context: $1million was equivalent to $31 million in todays money
Great job! Thanks
Just beautiful!
Great documentary. She was a beautiful spirit.
Beautiful story!
Can you tour the mansion today? ❤️🙏
A'lelia had some funny parties up in there. There is a great documentary on YT from 1980s featuring interviews with many people who knew and/or worked with the Walker ladies.

A good thing that the neighbors banded together to preserve the mansion
Thank you very much for this video!
Just goes to show you, hard work and ambition pay off. And, to think she was a woman of color!! Amazing!!
Yes and all that hard work and ambition truly exhibited itself around the 1920s in a small handful of wealthy black communities across America. Greenwood Oklahoma for example. Black Wallstreet
Indeed I did. Thank you for the information.
I use to pass the mansion everyday going to work when I lived in Westchester county. Gorgeous home.
Thank you for the information.

wow, great video, I learned so much. Thanks
Awesome! ‼️❤️😀💕⭐
Wow!!! Proud of you sis!!!!
Why did you say that her and her husband “schemed”? They actually developed a plan for her hair care products. A better choice of words could have been used.
Schemed isn't necessarily a deragoty word. Look it up.
@@joannsurrett2757 as I stated, a better choice of words could
Have been used.
I never heard about this woman or of the story before and I'm in the beauty industry. Beautiful home! I wish she got to enjoy it longer.
Wow you’ve never read about her in school?
So glad this house was preserved! So beautiful!
