Today we mourn the loss of Neil Peart, a true genius and one for the ages; farewell to a king indeed
😭😭😭😫😫😫😔😣
I still don't want to talk about that

Farewell to the king
Oh Rush, you are too good for this world.
hahaha!
TRUE!!!!!
Then Rush is Not of this world! Certainly
Zosofoxy Music cont imagine growing up without these tunes.!..?...😶.....the best..
Rush
In 1977, I was 17 years old and this album was released. I was lucky enough to see the tour on 25 September 1977 at the Orange Show Pavilion in San Bernardino California. Support was Max Webster and UFO. Two bands I never heard of. It was an amazing show. I still remember it to this day. The 5th studio album by Rush is truly a Masterpiece. No other musical artist has ever been able to exceed the musical superiority of Rush's "A Farewell To Kings." The Rush concert was the first concert I attended in my life. I have seen over 1,000 Rock Concerts around the world since that time. You can visit Rush's Setlist from 1977 and see the 20 songs that was performed that night in Southern California.
I've seen them three times and every show was incredible, it was always worth going, Rush does indeed put on one hell of a show and in my opinion the best show of any musicians you could go watch.
dang. you’re old AF
Same for me. This was my first Rush Album and when hearing this track I was hooked.
This song is even more relevant today than 40 years ago! Sad that this song has become timeless. It’s a far cry from the world we thought we’d inherit!
And the meek shall inherit the earth
Heil Trumpf!
@@brianbarrett192 get the fuck out of here you moronic libtard it's your buddy Joey Biden that's the Hitler of the US. Your just one of his idiot puppets too gullible to know the truth of the meaning of this song.
Amen..
Stole the thoughts right out of my head. Well said.
The more I get into Neil Peart's lyrics from that era the more I have the sense he wrote them for today! My god they are relevant today!
INDEED!
Carey Moffett That’s absolutely correct. It’s almost as if he predicted that something like this would happen all those years ago.
Honestly I feel that all the lyrics they write are and will be revelant today and throughout time.
he wrote them for 1000 years ago... and a 1000 years from now.
@@theanalogkid3763 Red Barchetta is truly prophetic as eco-nuts are making moves to make cars illegal
I absolutely adore rush I became a lifelong rush fan on December 25th 1975 I was 14 My mother always bought me an album for Christmas And as usual I got up my mother handed me an album I unwrapped it Rush fly-by-night never heard of rush I ask my mom who are these guys she Answered I Don't know but I like the album cover with the owl on it so she bought it for me So after we got done opening the presents I went to my bedroom and I put it on my stereo The rest of history I was a rush geek for life and I thank my mother for that she passed away December 29th 2021 Rest in peace mom I love you. rock on Neil.
Can't get this song out of my head lately- sure seems appropriate to this moment in American history

A band that stayed true to Themselves and within themselves. No egos. Just purity and humbleness and the love of music. Geddy, Alex, and Neil were a BIG part of the music soundtrack of my life since the 70's. Like Many of those GREAT 70's bands
I find these lyrics to be one of the best examples of Peart's literary genius. The themes described will be just as salient in 1000 years as they would have been in 1977, today or 1000 years ago. A perfect timeless description of the human political and social condition. Of course set to some of the best rockin' prog ever laid to vinyl. Great video depiction also.
I agree. These have to be my favorite lyrics that Neil wrote.
A lot of his music is inspired by Ayn Rand who wrote Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead. If you like the lyrics you should really check out her books because it really makes you see how much of what she predicted is becoming Truth today. Neil is a visionary in picking up on that and putting it to music.
@@swampwitch6133 Neil said as he got older, he backed off on Ayn Rands Objectivism philosophy, (as many did). He had no use for the GOP and preferred to call himself a bleeding-heart libertarian.
I taught mathematics for 32 years. I had these lyrics posted in my office window for years. As much as I taught my students, I always thought these words were the most valuable lesson.
So sad about Neil Peart, but listening to this gives me hope. Hope for my Children and Grandchildren. Keep all of your loved ones as "Close to your Heart" as you can. Time is short, and days are no longer lengthy
The opening song to the greatest album ever made
Adore every song, and this masterpiece (along with Xanadu) are the best side of music ever created
Rush are easily the best band ever too
Man, I seriously love this
Awesome lyric video guys - whoo hoo
Keep it Rush people
I'll second that. I got this out of the blue on cassette when it first came out, I was 14, never really heard of them. It just literally blew me away and still does to this day. I started playing bass not long after. The bass sound and playing along with drums and guitar on this album cannot be bettered IMHO
Well said my friend ....well said
agreed
Paul Elliott you Speaketh the Thuth. RUSH is numero uno forever... unbelievable band.
who would have thought that you were describing the world we live in today, all those years ago...
On the nail Buddy.
Well said Tony !
The timeliness of timelessness in song. Perhaps we can do without the new kings as well.
Neil knew
@@cynthialafazia7526 He did for sure
Neil summed up 2018 in 1977...
“Scheming demons dressed in kingly guise.
Beating down the multitude and scoffing at the wise.
The hypocrites are slandering the sacred halls of truth.
Ancient nobles showering their bitterness on youth.”
It was the same during the time he wrote it. Nothing changed =(
Daniel Santos to this day I think it’s more relevant!!!
And the cities are still full of hatred, fear and lies. Give me the country any day, brother!
Leftists still suck balls.
@@user-ml2pm2fv8h yup...hypocrites preaching about global warming while living in mansions and flying on private jets around the world....while they scoff at the wise that recognize they are nothing more than apocalyptic scammers.
Just love Geddy bursting in vocally on this track to introduce the album 1:47, like a rebirth after the vindication of 2112. Alex's guitar again evolving. Following the style of the last 3-4 albums. Just amazing. I still think Closer to the Heart was the band's most successful move commercially to broaden them to a wider audience.
Which was something they didn't want to write because they felt they were being pressured to go mainstream and just go along with the type of music everyone else was producing and that was not the direction they wanted to go. They wanted to do their own thing without pressure from the big wigs in the music industry telling them how to write their music and lyrics.
Please, Crom, nobody better criticize "Closer to the Heart". Give me a effin break.
@@tgnomechaser Both Signals and Moving Pictures were good albums from that decade each different and both excellent listening experiences.
Those lyrics are very telling. They fit today's various ills eerily well.

May you continue to hike to the highest peaks, sit and watch birds from dawn to dusk. Continue to ride from coast to coast and continent to continent and enjoy the gifts of writing. I was and am a former believer in the hereafter but if its true I hope you see your lost loves.Farewell to Kings.... RIP NEP
I saw Rush at Kiel opera house in St Louis in 1979. I have listened to them since I was 16 and now that I’m 55 I am introducing them to my Grandchildren. My son decided he wanted to play drums. The first lesson he had was watching Neil play the drums. Alex is Awesome on the guitar but Geddy is a master on the Fender Jazz.
That guitar solo though🎸
When I think of Rush, and what song most defines their sound, this is the song. This song has one of the best instrumental breaks in it of all their songs. The sheer complexity blows me away in that break.
I think it's great to have all Rush songs with lyric subtitles like this, because then more people will have chances to dig in to Rush more deeper.
Hope the Rush RUclips channel will provide more of these because I bet many Rush fans would like to inherit Neil's master pieces.
Does anyone else think that the lyrics of this song were written about 2020?
It's so good that is timeless and universal, we just had elections in Mexico and this lirycs can totally relate
RIP...Grandmaster of lyrics and drums. "Suddenly you were gone, from all lives you left your mark upon".
Incredible, written, roughly 45 years ago for presumably a couple hundred years ago in time historically, more important, and relevant in the last three years of USA government than it ever was written for unfortunately. Excellent album and song
Neil, we are mourning your unexpected departure. I, like so many, just feel so fortunate to have seen Rush play live (yep I was one of the 7 females in the audience!) in a couple of 1980 UK dates. Love to you all.
What a band. The best.
It's been a minute since checked in with RUclips to watch this video - so just a quick shout-out on this day and forever more. A Farewell to Kings is always relevant, and it won't be long again before people are coming here to listen to this for comfort and support as some oppressive aspect of our society seeks to control us.
🇨🇦 Right on !!! 🇨🇦
" When they turn the pages of

RUSH N' ROLL FOREVER!!
A most fitting video to accompany one of the greatest musical compositions of planet Earth. Thank you so much for the decades of inspiration. I remain eternally grateful.
Rush will never return because they will never go away
Just wait until RUclips decides that Rush has "Violated RUclips's Community Guidelines".
If things keep up as they are now, mark my words. It'll happen.
I discovered Rush in 1976-77, freshman year of college, starting with Fly By Night. I have yet to hear a more intelligent lyricist than Neil Peart, and doubt that I ever will. Speaking of timeless lyrics, I would like to see each new session of the United States Congress opened by playing “The Big Money.” All 535 of them need the reminder, if you ask me.
R.I.P. Rush. I'm so saddened that you retired from music altogether as a band recently, but thanks for all the 4 decades, 19 albums of music you gave the world. There can never be another band like you guys because each of you were unique in your own way.
Primus is playing AFTK in it's entirety for a Tribute to Kings on their 2021 Tour! That Les Claypool is 👌🆒️🙌👌🆒️🙌
This song was my introduction to Rush - via in a listening booth in a record shop in my home town in December 1977. And here I am, over 41 years later, still loving Geddy Lee's famous wail and growling Rickenbacker bass, Alex's most awesome guitar tone and The Professor's none -more- appropriate-for- the present words. Close my eyes and I'm 14 again.
Pretty much ALL music for me is 98% nostalgia
Still is and always will be my favorite band of all time. That bass tone, that right there, that's all love.
My favorite Rush album and I think their best imo

Arguably the best rush ever done.
RUSH has been a part of my life for 41 years now. Couldn't imagine life any other way. Still Jammin and will be till I die!!
Anything--ANYTHING--new from Rush is like the fiery breath of an incoming dragon: you know it's hot, you know it's powerful, and you know it will blow you away!
It makes me happy anytime there's a new Anything by Rush posted online.
This was the first song I ever heard by Rush. It’s still my favorite.
I get mad goosebumps listening to this one each time. The message is clear in the lyrics ❤
The same and delicious Anthem trough 40 years. Tears in my face and joy. I salute you
First heard RUSH when "2112" came out, i was 15 ,Loved them ever since, have everything they did. DVD's as well Only got to see them once Moving Pictures in '81 awesome show!! Sad i will never get a chance to see them again!!!
Farewell to the greatest band of all time. May they have a most well deserved and happiest retirement. Ive been with you since the beginning and couldnt imagine my life without your art! Thank you!
The Holy Trinity!!!
Three Kings!!!
Three G.O.A.T’s!!!
I can't add a thing to the excellent 👌 comments I found here. So let me say, I too am a part of this
excellent group of blessed folks who saw RUSH live in these golden days. The relevance of the Professors'
lyrics ring true today as when he first set them down.
✨🌟🇨🇦🌟✨
R.I.P. 😢 N.E.P.
For a track with so much punch the piece still breaths well enough that you don't feel smothered by it. Neil, Geddy and Alex of Rush are such brilliant composers that really had something to say in their own idiosyncratic way. Their lyrics and music have and will continue to stand the test of time.
To me, lyrics will always be such a huge part of Rock music. The words in this song are just as meaningful today as they were back in 1977, if not more so. Hats off to Mr. Peart as usual, a true visionary.
Happy 46th Anniversary to my 2nd favorite Rush album!
It's nice to come back to this song after years... the middle part (after "what's wrong") is amazing!!! I'm waiting this year for "Hemispheres" - 40th Anniversary with a concert record from this tour ;)
Saw the Hemispheres Tour on January 20th, 1979 - Baltimore Civic Center. Best rock concert I ever saw. Best Rush setlist EVER!!!!! We need a Hemispheres Tour concert DVD from the 1970's. I've seen way too much concert footage of them from 1980 onward, but I've always wanted to see a nice DVD from the 1970's To me, that was Rush at it's best and most creative.
Pink Pop is pretty good, and this: ruclips.net/video/rKGZ4AN8if4/видео.html
I've heard alot of Hemispheres bootlegs and they are all somewhat flawed sound-wise. I've seen the La Villa clip from Pink Pop, but that was about it. If you have a link to more Pink Pop footage, post it. I'd prefer to see an indoor show from that era, and not an outdoor daytime event. One of the things that really made the Hemispheres Tour such a spectacle was the brilliant lighting design (for that time). But I'd really like to see the Hemispheres Tour on DVD with the entire setlist performed. Yes, I am aware of the the few Hemispheres era vids (La Villa and Circumstances), but I'm not so sure they were even filmed in front of a live audience...they play like very well performed sound checks. I want to see that whole tour again...on DVD.
You can't count on the DVD material because it simply does not exist (except the excerpt from Pink Pop '79 - maybe the Dutch have something more). I am counting on a good CD material from some concert.
I don't believe that. How could they have played so many concerts and NOT have made any video recordings over all those years? If anything, they have them, but are unsure about releasing them...sound quality, performance quality, etc, etc. I'll bet they have tons of old concert videos in their collection. I'm not expecting high-quality, state-of-the-art, 2018 technology. I'm talking 1970's video quality. They could have it remastered for audio/video and put it out for the fans. The Hemispheres album was their pinnacle of complex music, even they have admitted that, as they dumped that musical direction and went off to shorter catchier songs from Permanent Waves forward. As an old-skool Rush fan, their music quickly evolved from the first album up to Grace Under Pressure...each album being completely distinctive from the other, but to me, by the mid-1980's, the Rush catalog became a blur, and so much of their newer music started sounding the same.
Rush Management, if you peruse these comments, give the fans an old-skool Rush concert, a full-set, full concert. Even if it's crude, dress it up and put it out. Your old fans will eat it up.
The bass and drum break in the middle never gets old for me.
the first minute and 12 seconds are already beautiful!
What a album and tour that was for those of us lucky and old enough to have been there what a great show a farewell to Kings a true masterpiece
this makes me so happy
Yes, another one of 1977s great plethora of magical music!!!!!!!.
Love this song!
The lyrics are even more true today than in the 70's.
Love you guys.
Neil was the philosopher of lyricism. he left a library of words arranged like no other! to see you in good stead, rich in all good human qualities while recognising all negative aspects to us all.
This song is simply wonderful and masterful ... the lyrics, the music ... only RUSH could do this ...
Exit the warrior. Goodbye, Neil. Rest easy.
One of the most beautiful and clean sounding albums ever, amazingly produced. Once a RUSH fan forever a RUSH fan.
I don't know what to say! Rush are the soundtrack to my life. I have so many fond memories to this album. Even though Madrigal is not a popular song I love everything they do. I will forever be in debt to my older brother for bringing him "2112" in 1980. I have been hooked ever since.
TIMELESS and EPIC! Musician's musicians!
I love the picture at the end, with the three thrones. Bottle of vintage wine beside the right chair, books and a drum for the center, and golf clubs beside the third. Geddy, Neil, Alex. Nice little Easter egg for fans who know the band well.
The tour of this album was my first Rush concert. Erie County Playhouse, I was 8 years old. Before assigned seating. Good old semi controlled chaos.
This first came out in 1977.... 1977! I was but a wee lad back then (well, 12) but it was just 2 years after this I discovered this amazing band and became a devoted Rush fan for the next 40 years. Thanks for being such a major part of my life.
I first heard this on the Hemispheres tour in 79 at Newcastle city hall oh thats in England ,i was 11 :) ....100 plus concerts later...............................................................still alive
This such a badass song that has never been more relevant than today
It's great listening to Rush again. Besides the song, I love the scenery. The pale sky in different colours, the Raven, the print that is used, to give it a medieval ambience.
Very prophetic lyrics.
Geddy Lee is my singer, my baseman, Neil Peart is my lyricist, my drummer, Alex Lifeson is my guitariste and RUSH is my band since i was 14... I'm 52 now thanks RUSH!
Neil Peart's lyrics are both thoughtful and brilliant.
Righteous! Thanks for taking me on this time travel of a video and how prescient these speaks of our modern times. Bravo~
I listened to this album until I knew it by heart while stationed in West Germany 1979-80. Still love it!
mon band préferé depuis l'age de 12 ans. musicalement accrocheur, je commence a 45 ans seulement a comprendre les paroles! imaginez mon plaisir!

Loved song from my favorite Rush's album!!!
With a sad heart we must say farewell to the KING of all drummers. You will play the drums forever in our hearts. R
I saw them 21 times the first was hemispere and every time they came back to town what a band.🎓😀
The best music I ever heard. 🎵. 🎶 ...Rock on Niel, juggle them sticks...and write those songs
This album locked me in as a "Rush" guy forever. One cassette in a cheap hotel in Ontario for week!
What an epic, powerful song. Rush is the best rock band ever, no doubt.
Wow it's been two years since Neil passed and it still sucks. This was my all-time fave RUSH tune. Geddy nails some crazy high notes. I heard him take it an octave higher live once...way back. Neil's lyrics were prophetic and accurate.
Thanks to RUclips their tunes will live on.
Awesome is an understatement...
Spin Rush weekly still..,..fan since 1975 ish....the room was smokey......
I love the three thrones at the end. Alex on the left, Neil in the middle, and Geddy on the right.
As one of the band with the BEST LYRICS on this planet, Rush SHOULD release more official lyric videos !!!
