My husband and I had so little when we married. We had the rent paid, gas tanks full and some food. Virtually no monry. No Christmas tree and no presents. Independently of each other, he went out and gathered greenery, tacked it to the wall in a tree shape and stuck crumpled aluminum balls in it for ornaments. I wrapped cans of food and boxes of mac and cheese in decorated grocery paper bags. He put up the tree after I was already asleep and I got up early to set out the "presents" and saw it, put them out and snuck back to bed so we both got up together. It felt like "the gift of the Magi." I am old now and widowed almost 10 years, but it was the best Christmas I ever had.

This year I cooked for my family members. Lots of cakes and breads, candies and tamales. They come to my house to eat and then they take their baked goods home. Everyone messaged me and called me to tell me how wonderful everything was. Best Christmas ever.

There is something to be said about keeping things simple. I love Christmas. It’s my favourite holiday, but I don’t do much shopping at all. I love to bring in stuff from outside in the woods, I use the nice things to make it special and I light candles. I send each of my sons who live far away a small Christmas box with a small gift and some home made gifts like cookies, candles, honey from my bees etc. I look forward to more of your Christmas videos. Have a wonderful day ❤

I love this. Homemade gifts are so much nicer! Christmas doesn't have to cost a fortune. I don't do much shopping either, I have had the same decorations and tree for years (I usually just purchase a poinsettia for a few bucks) and send a small package to family members as well. I know some people who feel obligated to buy especially the ones who have lots of children in the family, I imagine how overwhelming that could be.

I have been married for 45 years, and some of my most precious memories were when we had very young children and literally had to get by on shoe strings and prayers with our 3 little ones ! Christmas was full of games, crafts and church programs, but little in the gift department… all of our children love telling stories of those days and how Christmas was still magical and they did not feel poor at all❤️

I'm a stay at home grandma with four young grandsons ages 8 and under. I've been with my husband for 34 years. We live in a 650 square foot mobile home and have a small budget. I'm turning 55 in another week or so. I make most of our home interior/decorations and spend my days watching recipe, crafting, and home making videos trying to find inspiration. My goal is to make lovely memories for my grandsons to cherish in each season. I have to budget everything and sometimes I find myself wanting for more and admiring the beauty of other's huge and beautiful fancy homes. It gets tough but I try to remember that I have a man who loves me and grandchildren who adore me and that is more than enough. I am thankful to have found and watched your video this morning. It's nice to find someone like minded on youtube. It warmed my heart.

What a heart warming video this was as all of your videos I have seen are! I wish you were my neighbor!
I don't indulge in the American Christmas traditions either! When I was growing up my parents and extended family went all out on the secular Christmas traditions and all it did to me and my sisters was cause us to envy and caused others to envy us! Instead of gratitude and contentment for all the piles of Christmas gifts we received from our parents and extended family it caused us to be entitled spoiled brats!
Luke 12:15 says “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.
God bless you my sister in Christ!

Don't waste a penny because that dismisses his hard work. And, create a warm inviting atmosphere of success, no matter how difficult.

I just came across your channel today and I’m thrilled to see the way your family lives. This is how we were raised in the 60’s and 70’s and our family of 8 was very close. My Dad never made a purchase he couldn’t afford to pay cash for until our refrigerator broke and he got one on credit. Fortunately he paid it off quickly to the store, there were payments but no credit company to deal with. We did get gifts for Christmas because my Dad had a good job but the gifts weren’t expensive. My Dad and grandpa built our home a little a time using cash only, adding on a room when possible. I look forward to following you on your journey. God Bless!

😢 I'm sad that I only found your channel a few days ago. We didn't have an easy year and I went further into debt this Christmas trying to celebrate it in the usual way to give my nephews some cheerful time. After watching your videos, I realized that I shouldn't have splurges on toys, instead of toys I should have spend my time with my nephews and teach them how to create Christmas ornaments. Growing up, we always have home made Christmas ornaments but over the years we have started to use store bought ornaments. Thinking about it, making Christmas ornaments has always been one of the highlights of my childhood.

Thank you so much for starting your channel. I have been fed with compassion and I feel that you have touched a sensitive and truth baring topic. We are so thankful for what you are talking about. Thank you for your time and words of wisdom.
Back in 2020 money was very tight and we decided to get one gift for each of our five children. I was so sad and really had a heavy heart. Although it was the best Christmas we had ever had. We started a tradition of hiding the gifts and giving three different clues as to where to find the clues and at the end to gift. They were so very excited to explore the silly rhyme cards of clues that I had made, they loved running all over the house with their siblings on a wild goose chase. The joy and adventure this brought into our home was absolutely magical. And now we choose to be more simple and have that special time to build memories. The gifts that I receive/ received is the laughter and joy that is all about sharing love with them. They didn't care about the "stuff" at all. It was that mom and dad delighted in them and made everything special with love and the gift of time and joy!!!

In our family with our young daughter we read the story of the three gifts the baby Jesus received and that she could ask for three things she might like. She usually picked everything in deep thought and generally very small things, a chapstick, bookmark for her Bible, a new book. She is 35 now and still thinks carefully when we ask her what she wants. This year it was a book, a set of kitchen cereal bowls, and a cozy throw blanket from Walmart. We still talk about Christmas past when we had all her school friends over to play board games, popped popcorn, made paper chains for them all to take home and watched videos. Happy Memories cost very little, we should all make more.

Decorate these items with jingle bells, yarn, jewelry, bows & ribbons from yard sales & thrift shops all year.

It is hard to live far from your loved ones. My daughter and her husband did the same thing that you and your husband did. They moved across the country to a place where real estate is less expensive and paid cash for their home. Two years later, my son and his wife moved to the same place and paid cash for their home. It has been another two years, and I have "retired" from my job and am about a week away from moving to the same place. I am so excited to be on the verge of living near them once again. It is also a bit hard, as it means that I am leaving other loved ones behind.

Telling my kids I love them does not change the fact that I have no money, or that we could possible be homeless, so we will intentionally, if you don’t have money you can’t craft anything, what if you do t own pretty cups or nice clothes, kids get bullied when they appear poor, so we do break our backs to keep that from happening and I am sorry, I want to take my family to Disney, for them to have the experience. So how do you create content about being poor and get 3,000 subscribers? I would love to know your secret, cause I live below the poverty line and my channel only has 700 and I have been on RUclips for 3+ years

I looked at a couple of your videos. Your channel and hers are not alike because the focus of each is very different. You choose your focus, and she chose hers. Or, you could have posted to "advertise" your channel. Regardless of your reasons, you asked, so ...
      .....
Laramie talks about the choices she and her husband have made --> what, when, where, why and how they built the life have chosen for themselves and their kids.
It's encouraging that no matter where we live, what our income is and how we see needs vs. wants, we all make our own choices in regards to whether "enough is enough", or it isn't. And, both build habits that will help us, hold us in place, or keep us away from what we want. Not much in life is black and white but one thing is for sure, constantly thinking of how little one has, will always steal every bit of joy and comfort.
The focus of this channel is not shopping hauls, or how she cleans. It isn't about how much money they don't have, but how much of everything they have.
Laramie is encouraging. Her voice is confident and calm and she and her husband are remarkably wise for their age (I assume late 20's/early 30's) That gives other young people hope that they can, indeed, choose build a very good life without keeping up with the Jones'. I'm not young, and I am frugal but still have heard some things that stick to me and I appreciate that.
"Things", or the lack of them, aren't a detriment to the calm, comfortable life they enjoy. In fact, they choose to keep their life uncluttered in mind and space, which is a good thing. For example, they don't have a dishwasher and I haven't heard her say she wants one. She has said she thrifts for clothing, and I'm pretty sure they do that for some household items and materials for fixing their home, like light fixtures. Her husband has learned very good skills over the years so they don't need to hire others to fix everything in their home.
The reason her subscriber numbers are building is because her story is different from the usual "low income" or "frugal" channels. Even though we're all strangers, we can always appreciate and feel encouragement and learn different ways to do, think or cook.

@@tamaraliscia3408 I am glad you feel that way, and we can agree to disagree, you didn’t understand what I was asking and we also live o. Two very different planes, and that’s okay too, I ask a question about living poor cause that was the title of her video and buying an abandoned house and I wanted to know how you can do that on purpose I do not chose to live poor my husband didn’t inherit money when his mom passed away and we couldn’t buy a cheap home we have to rent

@@tamaraliscia3408 since you looked at some of my recent videos then you would also know how I live my life and in the last video I watched she was cleaning her silver is that not home making that’s what I do and she would not have come in my recommended if she wasn’t doing home making cause that is literally all I watch other than vlogs, I am also saying that you must be careful when you make assumptions that your life is better than someone else cause there dream is different from your and you should always disclose that these are your opinions. The way you live and how was that encourages my to me of you say that my dreams are stupid and that I have no meaningful moments with my family. That’s just rude and definitely not encouraging at all

I am confused when you say its only been about 6 weeks since you posted your first video when you have your first listed at 2 years ago and then there is nothing until about 1 month ago?

Yes. I made one video 2 years ago, but didn’t take it seriously. My first “serious” video, so to speak, was posted towards the beginning of October 😊
