I went and bought that Pink Floyd- Momentary Lapse of Reason. I had the cassette back in 1987. And even bought the iTunes video, Learning To Fly. I liked that video. 🦅

Necrotic Nick- Super underrated band in general in my opinion. I'm pretty sure that one was the only one I was missing in terms of their full lengths. I believe there's a new one dropping this year too so I'm stoked to get a chance to go over that one.

Hello Nick, sorry to bother you, I don't know if you talked about it in your collections but recently I saw that a death doom band Tzompantli had released an album "Beating the Drums of Ancestral Force" do you know ? and finally are you going to make a video to summarize MDF ? Good to you and the members of Thralls of Metal, thank you for being there keep it up, Romain from France 🤘🔥.

Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, I still feel like I butchered it but it was worth a shot lol. Both of those albums are sick as hell though.
As a massive Pink Floyd fan, I agree that Meddle and AMLOR are great albums. While I understand that the early, Syd Barret era of PF is influential, I do agree that Meddle is where the band really starts their iconic sound, and yes, "Echoes" is amazing. Probably my second favorite PF song behind "Shine On You Crazy Diamond." As for AMLOR, I think there's a tangible sense of relief that exudes from the album. As the band went on in the 70s, they became much more harsh and tense as a consequence of Roger Waters' influence. By the time you get through The Wall and the Final Cut, the music feels like it gets lost behind the messages that Roger wants to share. When you get to AMLOR, you can feel the music take over again, and the relief of not having to deal with Roger anymore. I'd be very curious to see what you think of Division Bell, if you decide to pick that one up.
Necrotic Nick- I honestly haven't really dove much into the Syd Barret era of Pink Floyd but I plan on just getting more Pink Floyd in general. It's a band that I feel like I stopped way too soon on collecting their albums. Echoes is a masterwork in my opinion and right up there with some of my favorite Pink Floyd songs (my go to off of Wish You Were here is "Welcome to the Machine") and AMLOR is pretty much just pure musical comfort. I love the chill, lush vibe of that album. I love Water's material but that calming effect on AMLOR is just a wonderful feeling and I definitely plan on snagging Division Bell at some point. I used to have that one on tape when I was a teen but I lost it forever ago.
Shine on you Crazy Diamond is my favorite Pink Floyd song. Wish you Were Here likewise my favorite album from them. Gilmour and company created some amazing music that holds up today! 🤘
I'm not super into Castle Rat but I'd hang out in a castle with her for sure lol

The Castle Rat album is absolutely amazing. I also picked that one up. If you like Momentary Lapse Of Reason then you will probably like The Division Bell, I think that is a stronger album overall. Great update as usual
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Man, that album is a pure throwback and I love it. Right down to the production they captured that classic Sabbath warmth to the riffs and bass lines. I used to have Division Bell on tape as a teen but I lost it forever ago. I plan on snagging that one again though for sure.

It's a shame we won't get reviews for last weeks releases because albums like Vale Of Pnath and Vredehammer were so fucking good. But I hope you guys are having an awesome time
Necrotic Nick- I'll probably snag those at some point and cover them in a collection update but we simply didn't have time to cover them because of the fest. We had a blast at MDF though. More on that later for sure.
This is why i dig these videos. Critical Defiance, Suffer (metalarchives showed a newer album for them), and Adon added to the list of 2024 albums to check out.

Both of those Pink Floyd albums are classics. And that album cover on the Castle Rat album looks similar to the photoshoot done for Blood Fire Death by Bathory, most notably Quorthon.

Dude , Bocc's lyrics and song titles are in Catalan, not Spanish!
Necrotic Nick- My bad. The languages are very similar and assuming it was Spanish based on the fact the band hails from Spain didn't seem too far fetched.
@@thrallsofmetal They are indeed similar, both are iberian romance languages. And you're absolutely right cause Spanish is the official language across the whole territory, however Catalan is a co-official language in Catalunya and the Balearic islands and many bands from the area decide to use their own regional language instead of Spanish. Vidres a la sang is another death metal band that does this.

should check out Tzompantli - Beating The Drums Of Ancestral Force, recently came out, kinda death doom with even some hardcore influence, a few of the members are in a hardcore band, which turned into a more doomy type band
Necrotic Nick- I have it actually but we just didn't have time to go over it before we left for MDF. I'll definitely be going over it in a collection update though for sure. I have a good feeling about it since their debut was almost on my year end list for 2022.
@@thrallsofmetal the other band the main guy Brian is in is Xibalba, may not love their earlier stuff, bbut worth checking out their newer stuff too, theyev deff changed into a slower doomier type sound, just more death vocals over that slower doom sound

Not related to this video, but the Floyd had me thinking of a new angle for the "almost metal" videos. Deep Purple is one of those bands, Rainbow too. I'd love to hear more Deep Purple on this channel. Live in Tokyo is widely regarded as one of the best live hard rock/borderline metal live albums of all time. Just a thought. Thanks for the "non-traditional review" vids. It's what sets this channel apart. Thanks Nick.

Meddle is possibly one of the greatest "transition" albums of all time. That album really bridged, IMO, their early stuff with Syd, to what most people associate pink floyd to be. My favorite album from the later Guilmour years is Division Bell. Pulse is my all time favorite live album from them. Period. Even without Waters. The energy from that album and DIvision Bell still scream Pink Floyd to me. Meddle is awesome!! One of these days is borderline metal. The impending bass intro, the feeling of doom. Almost sabbath like...kinda. Floyd uses "Counterpoint" better than any traditional rock band I've ever heard. Great album picks bro. Looking forward to the Deceased break down too. Another killer pick.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I'd have to agree. In terms of changing their sound they not only really committed to it with Echoes being such a monster of a song but they executed it so damn well. I used to own Division Bell on tape when I was a teen but I lost it forever ago so that's one I plan on getting again for sure. Also a new album from the partly Danish band Hyperdontia is also under way.. 🇩🇰
Necrotic Nick- I've heard of those guys but I think I got them confused with Temple of Dread which was also awesome. I'll keep an eye out for their stuff. Super stoked to go over the new Hyperdontia when it drops. That first single was sick as hell.
