Watching this, and hearing the chattering humans commenting on every move the gorillas made, I kept thinking that the gorillas had more dignity. I felt a kind of sadness that they had no natural life, no privacy at all.
This is a long process. I love how people make comments that have never worked with western lowland gorillas, don't have the education or training and are not their owners or keepers. Do you realize what would happen to NeNe and Annie if you "kicked Kiyo out?". They would grieve for him. When the zoo/owners feel it's time then they'll make a move. Shabani can still reproduce, but he's stuck with AI/Nene who show zero interest in mating. They're wasting Shabani's good genetics!
I do hope the zoo makes some decisions about the males. In the wild, Kiyo would have the choice of being submissive to Shabani or leaving to start a new troop. But for now they're unable to get out of each other's way. This is also putting undue stress on the females. Yes, in the Congo there's occasional stressful family dynamics, but they sort themselves out. Another point is this troop is already inbred - allowing Kiyo to mate with Ai or Annie would be irresponsible for the zoo and introduce genetic issues that this species cannot afford with their low numbers. Globally zoos trade animals to keep the genetics varied. I'm sure another zoo would love to have Kiyo finish growing up in their care and be a father himself once he's bulked up and silver.
Kiyomassa is growing up, getting stronger and his hormones are raging. He will need to be moved in the not to distant future. This happens in the wild when sons are banished. If he's not moved there will be a real fight and it will be ugly. Fathers and Sons sometimes fight to the death in the wild. No reason it won't happen here as Kiyomassa continues to mature.
As he should. Kiyo is the age now and becoming the new leader of the troop. This is normal, but shanani has to be soo careful, he could end up being cornered by all of them which would not end well at all for him.😅
@@KMichealElite. Hardly, Nene has no teeth and can't do a thing, Annie would never side against her dad, that leaves Kiyo and Ai who Shabani could wreck both of them if he chose to. Thankfully he is very careful in the use of his power but they should have moved Kiyo ages ago because something will go south if he stays there. I am truly baffled at these Japanese zoos treating them like human families and keeping them together too long.
@@KMichealElite.Kiyomasa is a long way from becoming troop leader. Shabani is strong and in his prime. But a bachelor group would benefit Kiyomasa and let him know he’s not the only ambitious young male in the world. I don’t think zoos should keep an animal species that they cannot fully provide for.
This was taken on the same day as the last one but in the afternoon. Shabani is still pissed at Kiyo. It's like Shabani is stalking Kiyo. It's difficult because they are doing what comes naturally & the only person at fault is the zoo. But who is surprised that this was gonna happen.
Kiyo is already a big gorilla and needs to leave his group. In the gorilla community, males are expelled or they will fight for females, territory, babies and food. The zoo needs to take action now.

It's too bad the zoo doesn't care. You would think they would say, like, oh, we have plans to move him soon, which is better than knowing nothing...what are they gonna do wait until a member is killed? This is all very stressful for the others in the group.😢
This is a lovely family. I can't imagine what it would be like to be in captivity with the constant noise and to be on display. And on top of it adapt to an unnatural environment. When I look at the gorillas in the mountains they have the habitat to forage all day. they have the lush greenery and the societal norms are clear. Ahh. Love Shabani and his love for his family. Nene is so cute and expressive and at her age holds her own. When she wants to move she can. Her age and size compared to the other gorillas makes her more vulnerable in a physical way but she fights back and has a voice. I dont think she is as crabby as one may think. She is more than her facial expressions. For that matter one cannot know unless one was in her gorilla shoes or shoeless. The children Kiyo and Annie are children. Natural to act out and push the boundaries and be naughty at times. And Ai ever the peace lover. Shabani is a caring silverback and doing well with his family under the current living conditions. They have their ups and downs like all family no matter the species. My wish for them is abundance of food and more greenery. My feelings are mixed. I know they are an endangered species and were saved from a tough existence created by Man, who poaches and encroaches on their environment. And now they are safe and have food. And I also know some zoos have more resources than others to provide. In the end I just love them and endear them and my favorite is Nene. Beneath the quivering lower lip and wise eyes is a tender loving girl. She just touches my heart and hope she finds some peace in her dotage. It will be hard for her when Kiyo eventually leaves, No matter what love is ever-present.❤🧡💚💙💜
The poor mountain gorillas are being forced to acclimate to human visitors, which gives them zero fear of poachers. These treks are horrible. And eastern Lowlands have open space just like mountain gorillas, but they're stuck within the conflict of the Congo where wars rage and little protection is in place for them with mass habitat loss. And the cross river gorillas have all that open space, but there are only 350 left last count and they clash with humans. The captive gorillas in these species protection programs have it very good.
