What an unnatural place for these magnificent animals! They should be free to live in the forest as nature intended, not locked up in these awful places where they are bored to death!
These are western low land gorillas. They are part of a world wide captive breeding program. I think very few people disagree with your view this type of animals should be in the wild. Hopefully conservation and education saves the habitat of what’s left of them in the wild. There have been some releases of captive bred Gorillas unlike some other animals. I have seen wild mountain gorillas and they sort of look bored. They eat pretty much all day and sleep. Even thought they look sort like people there diet really requires the eat all the time and sleep so the massive amounts of plants break down. I don’t know about this zoo and am not commenting on their care.
Maybe they are there for a reason.
I agree they should be in the wild. Unfortunately, many animals end up in captivity as rescues who would not have otherwise survived.

I've been saying the same thing, and then I got attacked by the commenters for saying it's cruel to have these massive gorillas laying on hard concrete all day every day.
What’s messed up is Japan has massive forests that they could put a sanctuary for these gorillas. They could set aside 10 acres or so fence and wall it in and let them run “free” so to speak. Not in these little enclosures.

Um. Yeah. Thats not how it works. I live in a place with one of the largest unspoiled forests left in North America. It stretches for thousands of miles across two countries. Guess what would happen if you put a gorilla family in it? Theyd die. The weathers a lot harsher the plants are different. They dont belong there. Its not that simple as fencing off an area and putting them in it.
There's lot of preserved land that's controlled so nobody comes to poach them, but unfortunately poachers come regardless. They're tearing down lots of the forests too. It's pretty sad almost all these beautiful creatures are going extinct.
The love they have for each other and the keepers ,yes it looks boring, I believe the being in the wild gives them a less time to live because of poaching,the gorillas we see have been saved at a young age or generations of these adorable folks , I call them folks because of are DNA being so close ❤️It’s like no worries just love ,smiles ,and disagreements but they never hold grudges,thank you all the keepers of these wonderful folks ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
They have much longer lives in captivity as well.

To even think that its better for them to live in captivity than beeing free, come on dude,..lets be honest. Kiyo is usually super chill with Annie so that was a surprising reaction for going into the basement.
Kiyomasa always wants to be first - so when Annie slipped into the entry before him, Kiyomasa perceived that as a female usurping him in the hierarchy.
Kiyomasa feels entitled and must take first place in the basement lineup. He didn’t like Annie going ahead of him. Glad Shabani stepped in to remind Kiyomasa not to be rough with Annie. He’s on the ball.
Why is it always the negative titles? I've noticed that lately, and its annoying. These titles breed ignorance for those who've never worked with western lowland gorillas. And unless a viewer can smell Shabani and Kiyo, Shabani is dung dropping as territorial marking, its hard to decipher their real intentions. I love Shabani family, but please do better with the titles.
What I love about this family is when Nene gets torqued off at Shibani or any of the rest of the family she really can move. Do not underestimate Grandma Nene!

Sometimes Annie does starts problems because she knows Shabani will defend her.

I don’t understand all the Annie hate. Since she came into this troop she’s been trying to fit in with the others and just wanting their love. Kiyo has always been treated better by Nene & Ai, thank god for Shabani or Annie would have no one on her side. It seems like Kiyo views him going in/out of the door first as a hierarchy thing, Shabani needs to put a end to that immediately and be first himself or one of the females. Kiyo is so lucky to have a dad like Shabani, most silverbacks aren’t as loving and playful as he is.
Shabani goes last because he wants to make sure they all go to the basement but he is first when coming up from the basement.
@@sonjavandam1306 Usually Annie or Kiyo are first coming up for breakfast, and Shabani always goes down before Nene. Because she’s slower than the rest she’s pretty much always last. I know he wants to look out for the others but I don’t think Kiyo should be the one in/up first, it may seem like a small thing but it’s not to Kiyo.

Exactly. Their keepers know much better than we do also. I couldn't believe the comment made in here that they should potty train the gorillas. I think that's the most ridiculous comment I've ever seen about gorillas

The problem would be : how do you observe them in their natural environment? If a bunch of people went traipsing through, it wouldn’t be THEIR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT anymore. You couldn’t get up slope to see any of them. Just a peek once in awhile. If the breeding programs are successful there will be more gorillas in the wild that if they were left in the wild. Especially with poachers around

@@abby4647they are vegetarians so no.my rabbits eat the same thing and their poops don't. Like an earthy smell.But gorillas eating up to 40-60 lbs a day of greens they have alot of gas and fart alot!!!!😮

Hmmm so maybe Annie going after Kiyo was more than just thinking he was too rough with Shabani on the other video . Or is it Jealousy 🤔 . Shes testing Kiyo lately . Shes not scared of him at all . I wonder if thats cause she knows Shabani has her back or because they grew up playing together and Kiyo is so lenient with her during play . Maybe both . But the way Kiyo squeezed his way back up out that door to make a run for it 😂 I cannot . I can only laugh during rough times because our lovely videographers ease our worried little minds by time the video comes to an end . Thats the only reason why I can make fun at the more serious incidents . Proud of Kiyo for sticking up for hisself before going back down to the basement . The problem is kyomasa is a spoiled brat that got his way his whole life because if he didn't his mommy would come protect him. But shabani is going to stick up for annie no matter what. Kyomasa just needs to grow up.

Which in a way Im glad he was from mom and also Shabanis fatherly love , both play and sterness when needed because he will be an amazing Silverback to his own troop one day . Having had both . He’s already so gentle with the girls when wanting physical attention . I hope that sticks when getting his own troop so his ladies love him .
@@she.around, he was and is still very spoiled by Nene and Nene and sometimes they disrupted the troop natural way of letting the silverback to teach boundaries to his son, so he could learn and can defend himself against others gorillas.

O my goodness. Shabani is so quick for his size. When AI (I think) was going down and the door was shutting and then she came back up so fast I think Kiyomasa pushed her up the rope and out the door.😂😂😂 I would definitely run to if a silverback was chasing me.

I don’t think that after living in a zoo ,they wouldn’t make it on their own ,If you take a baby and put it in the wild it would definitely not make it because the baby’s mom has never lived in the wild,they call this a vicious circle ,also they are all on the Endangered list mostly from humans,I believe they are healthy ,some have a couple of acres to roam ,some have smaller areas with a continuous way to climp and sleep,I understand what you mean ,🤙

Those enclosures are an embarrassment! They should have much more foliage and trees and grass to play in…what kind of Zoo treats creatures like this? NOT A CARING OR RESPONSIBLE ONE…or they would give these Gorillas more of a realistic environment! What a shame to treat our “other brothers” this way! That’s why they act out!!! Too bored to do anything but watch each other instead of playing in an authentic Gorilla habitat…shameful! I can’t watch this anymore…it’s too sad!!!
This is not an acceptable way of life for these magnificent animals. We can learn about animals without keeping them in jail.

It's not shabani's fault. That's just how gorilla society works. The silverback will always protect the weaker individual. He can't always know who started it, so they always protect the weaker individual to give them a chance to get away. Kyomasa didn't need to act like that, he still went down first.
Kiyo acts more like a brat than Annie but, it’s not his fault it’s Nene’s for never disciplining him and letting him do whatever he wants. The only one that sticks up for Annie and is on her side 100% of the time is Shabani, while Kiyo has the whole group supporting him. Finally Shabani has started disciplining him more and more which is his job as the silverback to another male gorilla trying to override his authority.
My comment is not for kiyo it’s for dad letting them always mess with nene she’s old leave her alone 🦍
@@blueharrington1893 it's shabani's instinct when there is a fight between nene and annie, to go after nene. Since nene was constantly trying to kill annie when she was little. She isn't poor old nene. She is a nasty female that is now reaping what she has sown. All those years shabani had to protect annie from her, and that is why he doesn't help nene now.
This is animals abuse where is the humane society to to put an end this cruelty. Who ever running this facility are driving these animals up the walls.
What did Kiyo do that endangered Annie? I didn't see anything he did that was wrong. I saw Shabani angry with Kiyo but didn't see anything that Kiyo did--anybody know?????

Shabani should have went after ai for being disrespectful. She had no business jumping in the argument. I have a feeling that those two are going to clash again real soon if she doesn't change.
I agree completely. Nene and Ai should refrain and let Shabani discipline his son as Kiyo later wouldn’t have mom and sister to help him against other gorillas.
It seems the female gorillas always intervene when Shabani gets angry at Kiyomasa - I think they instinctively want to ensure neither gets severely hurt.
I will say, though, that in Gorilla Society, Annie stepped out of line by jumping ahead of her half brother. She’s female, and the males are dominant. So perhaps Ai saw what happened and recognized that Kiyo’s reaction was justified.
@@jenniferlynn3537 really if it was a dominance thing then shabani would go first. I think that kyomasa is just so spoiled that he wants to feel important. He had plenty of time to go, but he was just standing there. So annie got tired of waiting. But it wasn't that big of a deal for Ai to be biting at shabani's backside. And she knew that she was taking a chance because she peed herself when she did it.

I wonder why they don’t toilet train them. They’ll never be released into the wild so may as well make the environment more hygienic for the gorillas and less work for the keepers. I’m sure it sounds easier than it is but maybe they can think about it.
Considering gorillas are not domesticated, I doubt it would work.

I believe the only way they could toilet train them would be to use classical conditioning: if they used a toilet, they’d be rewarded.
I don’t know how they could reward only one at a time for using a toilet. Also, there could be issues interfering with their meal schedule.

I don't think you will see annie with gentaro. But unfortunately she can't stay here. Eventually shabani will start mating with her. These young gorillas should have been separated before now, but the zoo's in Japan did not plan for their future at all. They have failed all of these young gorillas.
I heard they're eventually going to look overseas for Gentaro, maybe even Iriki or Tayari as his mate.

Annie not usually causes troubles. Annie was kicked, punched and pushed by Nene and sometimes by Ai. So by your own logic, Annie caused trouble because she had the audacity of being born.

This enclosure appears to be VERY GHETTO!!! 😡 Not even a PRETENSE at creating a “natural” environment for the gorillas. You know, TREES, GRASS, WATER FEATURES, Something!!!! I would absolutely Lose my noodle in a short period of time if I had to live like that EVERY day 😢😢😢😢 I don’t understand how VISITORS could tolerate seeing these magnificent animals in this condition.
