      Its not 'meant' for metal, its 'intended' for metal, It works on lots of things :) You know, they make saw blades for those handles, that are made for cutting wood :)

  • @ZTravisty
    @ZTravisty 7 лет назад +4

    Hey I have not seen this in the comments yet, but flip that dang roof over. Because it is so tall if you flip it over you won't see those cross boards only the fancy wood. and to make it more sturdy and not sway, you can attach the shelves to the rack with two more connectors on each side.

      Hack saws are meant for anything. Its the teeth on the blade that matter. It did look like a multi purpose blade though.

    • @AaronAverett
      @AaronAverett 7 лет назад

      The correct tool for that job is actually a regular hand saw. It'd probably worth the $20 or whatever it costs if you're going to do a lot more cutting of wood, as it doesn't have the bow to get in the way on long cuts.

    • @zombieblackopsgaming
      @zombieblackopsgaming 7 лет назад

      I would either use a panel saw but preferably a Tennon saw because with the width of that timber you would get a more accurate cut due to the steel spine.

  • @MtnDewMonkey3
    @MtnDewMonkey3 7 лет назад +2

    Just an fyi that's a metal cutting saw, it still works for wood but it takes longer, a normal wood saw has bigger cutting teeth. Plus the wood glue, fun fact "when it dryes it's actually 3 times stronger then the wood itself." It looks cool, nice work

    couple of pointers.
    1) the drill you used the entire time is really only meant for drilling holes and the other drill that comes with the kit you bought is for driving the screw in. Hence the Drill/Driver combo. it works the way you did it but you will have less of a headache.
    2) for aesthetics i think you should flip your roof around so at least it looks nicer and you dont have the 2 ugly boards there that dont have the weathered look.
    3) if you need a support for that side shelf i recommend doing another pipe off your main rack opposite the side where your suit is hanging. its a free section so just put a pipe in that side however long you need it to go (home depot threads pipe for you if you need a custom sized pipe) and throw in a 90 degree elbow and go straight down to the shelf with another one of those base pieces you used. it should give it some stability.
    4) Lastly, please use a tape measure, I know you dont have experience with doing things like this and it doesnt really matter to you that much that its absolutely perfect but it will save you a headache down the line when you dont get lucky with placement (not trying to be a dick)
    Hope this finds you well. Love the garage build. doubt it but feel free to reply or message for any other pointers.

    For the shelves run another bar across the top and change the t joint to a 4 way and run another t joint on the bar with the shelves then run a bar from the shelves to the main cloths rack. Will take a little back tracking but should stable it all up some.

    If you use the 3 way pipe fitting, on the other side of you race suit hook, you could go out and down with pipe then connect it to the shelving to add stability to the shelf. Overall its an amazing build. Keep up the great work.

    Little advice for next time, Chase! Next time, get a saw JUST for wood. I'm not sure if the saw you had was for wood, it looked like maybe for PVC or metal piping. When you cut the wood, you want to start at an angle, farthest away from you, coming back to you. When you saw, you want the saw to do the work, not yourself. The saw should cut through like butter! Hope that helps! Good luck with everything else and I hope the rest of the series goes swimmingly!

    Hey Chase! Some tips that I would do:
    •Bring a pipe down from the side of the rack to the shelf so it will get stable.
    •Remove top Wood, it is too heavy and make the rack wiggle more.
    •Cut off the sides of the shelf a little for a cleaner look.

      +KingMaxMoto well a drill is technically meant for drilling and driving screws and he probably doesn't realize that you can use an impact driver for screws. And he more than likely would have split the wood a lot more had he used it

    Use the Top "ceiling" as back decoration of that thing, try to use L brackets or shelf brackets to hold it to the bottom wood... and that depth is a bit to big you should shorten it a bit, some 12in. back and foward. In the way use an L bracket to stop the glove shelf shaking so much just screw it to the new "back decorating ceiling" .

  • @robertmilchling

    An idea for the top panel: remove the roof as you said it is unusable and it is a lot of mass up top that is only adding to the instability of it. Remove the T from the legs for the roof and replace with a 90 facing backwards. Turn the 90 on the leg that was facing up so that it is now pointing down. Replace the 90 on the bottom legs in the back with the Ts you removed earlier. Then you can, using some long pipes, connect the back feet on the bottom to the very top, boxing off each side and making it much more stable. You can add supports laterally as required. It's tough to triangulate with those supplies so this isn't ideal but it should help quite a bit.

    Hey Chase, here is a suggestion with the LED panel that swiss LED gave you. If it is possible, maybe you could have your signature chase helmet graphic design cut out on some type of transparent "red" colored material and some how secure it to the top of the LED light and then mount the LED light above your work bench. So hopefully it would like your "youtube icon" and you can incorporate it into certain shots as you do other videos in your garage. Then the garage will look "branded" like a chaseontwo wheels garage. Just food for thought! good luck!

    Awesome Chase! I have a suggestion for to make the more stable shelves . you have on the tip the 3 holes connections (the one parallel to the one that you hang your racing suit) use it with a metal elbow going down ,use the legs that you use for the top ,since you are not going to use it. you can even built more shelves until you get to the connection that I mention before. Hope that helps you. But it looks amazing, brother!!!!

    If the side shelves are as close to the vertical support as they look (within 1/4" without stress), try some 2-hole pipe hangers. Put them around the upright & screw them into the side of each shelf. Use narrow screws (say #8x1") & drill pilot holes so you don't split the wood. Use a 3/32" bit for your pilots & make sure the screws are threaded for their entire length so you don't have to deal with a shank pilot. #8 screws may require washers to not pull through the hanger holes; talk to somebody at your hardware store for advice on what you can put together from their stock.

Hacksaws are more for metal, aluminium etc. In regards to your lighting video, the lighting is still pretty bad. Hey Chase, you should brace the shelves on the side against the roof part. Either by running shelves all the way to the top or by just adding pipes long enough to go from the top shelf to the roof. it will brace the roof and the shelves and tighten the whole thing up. Other then that, that thing came out awesome!!

    hey buddy nice gear rack. Very clever idea. Just wanted to let you know that I work with this type of pipe and fittings at work almost every day. The thread type is referred to as NPT (National Pipe Thread). Typically there would be a fluid and/or gas running through this pipe so the threads are coated with some sort of thread sealant and the connections are made up very tightly. I think if you had at least taken a pipe wrench and tightened up everything your rack would be much sturdier. No need for Thread sealant though it definitely wouldn't have hurt anything. Also not sure if everyone saw but you're working with 3/4" Pipe and fittings. The straight pieces with threads on both ends are referred to as nipples. The very short ones where the entire nipple is threaded are referred to as close nipples. The rest are referred to by their length (i.e. 3/4" NPT Pipe Nipple x 6" Long). In regards to the way you ran the 48" cross members, there is actually a fitting referred to as a pipe union. What you would have done is replaced the 48" Long nipple with Two 24" Long Nipples, and installed this pipe union in the middle. It would have left a small space where nothing could be placed however I don't think that would have hurt anything. Awesome looking garage, keep it up!

    you should use the top rack as a backsplash, so its almost like a cubby with a dark wood background, i think it would look sick, so it goes dark wood floorboards, to darkwood back wall instead of seeing the regular wallpaper brick background, give it more of an accent to the garage, could even sticker bomb the wood grain in the future to add color hints and what not..just my opinion, love the vids though, keep up the vids brother! ride safe everybody! and keep warm out there!

    Don't know if you already have something, but a simple drilled hole with a zip-tie could help secure your shelves to the vertical pole... might help. Also, you should flip the top of you keep it on to hide the 2x4s

    Keep the roof and put lighting on it.
    Well but flip it upside down first though so you can't see the plain wood.

    chase, on the right side, why not cut a hole in the middle of the wood, attach some more piping(like you did with the legs) then run it up to the T-fitting, it will make it more stationary.

  • @runerider6842
    @runerider6842 7 лет назад

    Chase insert another T with a short pipe coming out, elbow it down, add a base plate and screw it onto the top side shelf, that will secure all the shelves on the right, Awesome job bro, keep it up, Greetings from Alberta. :)

    Turn the roof part the other way up so you can't see the pine. look nicer even if you don't end up using it.

    I think for the caster wheels I would have lined them up with the post bases, drilled a hole and used nuts and bolts to secure them in place. Overall very nice gear rack.

    to any future watchers of the video and/or chase, for the small rack, just screw/nail in sombe 2×4s on the back. i would angel the screws/naila diagonally though, they might hold better that way

    Question: Why did you make the base so big? Seems counterproductive to make it so large because you have to reach over it to hang things. Also, as a person that builds houses for a living, it was incredibly painful to watch you cut wood with a hack saw. With that being said, I enjoyed the video and I applaud you for building something you designed with your own hands!

    I'd put the remaining bits of the floor under the table in the corner, turn the rack around and have it in that left corner and put the white unit next to your black cabinet, I have really bad OCD and watching these videos makes me want to break in and rearrange your stuff lol

    I am planning a similar build for my garage. Make the top piece much smaller and use it for your helmets; you'll be able to reach it while standing on the base. That hacksaw would have made quick work of that screw.

    It was SOOOO MUCH FUN!!! See you screw up!! It happens every time that you build something with your own hands if you have not had enough practice... Those inexperienced mistakes are the most frustrating ones, and they are the funnest to watch because they are so stupid! LOL. Awesome rack that you built right there!!

    If you decide to keep the top... I suggest flipping it... where the board connecting them all together is at the top where it can't be seen

  • @Tony73567
    @Tony73567 7 лет назад

    Flip the top of the rack around so the pallets are pointing upward and you can't see them it will look more nice that way and you can add lighting to the the rack too by just screwing in a light bar

  • @sirforryan

    Hey chase. If you spin the top shelf over it would look better. You wouldn't see the 2x8. Also could you use the metal piping to connect the shelf on the right to the main unit. Should make it more stable. Hope this helps.

  • @albertoguzman9971
    @albertoguzman9971 7 лет назад

    hope you read this. A good idea would be to continue the shelfing all the way up, and maybe it will be more stable. 👌

  • @EXiT54
    @EXiT54 7 лет назад

    nice! i would make some changes to it though. 1st would be removing base exses woon on the side, so stepping on it wont flip it over...basicly i would cut it all the way to the suport wood where the wheels are. 2nd thing is something u said it could be better, it's the shelve, and i think you could somehow fix the top shelve to the bar where the clothes are and make it alot more stable. over all looks rly nice, if you decide to leave the top on i would flip it over so that white wood wouldnt show. would need more stabilization on the bars though

    you use the bottom of the roof to install some hooks that you can hang your helmets from. as for stability. put a pipe on the backside stretching from top to bottom to prevent the thing from wobbling.

    you should really use some thread locker for those screw joints would make the join a lot more solid and its some peace of mind with your expensive motorcycle gear.

    HELP FOR THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRETY:
    The side shelves are too wobbly. They rest on 2 poles. Get 2 other poles and connect one of them perpendicular to each side of the shelf poles. Connect those two extra poles to the main rack's pole.
    Also the main rack is unstable. That's because you only have one pole going up from each side and too much mass on the top. (Get the roof off). You should have built the frame straight up from every cornered wheel. So 4 poles going up from bottom to top. Half way up, at each side, connect the two poles with a perpendicular, smaller pipe. Repeat that at the top. Make a rectangle at the roof and it should be way stronger, as you'd have 2poles on each side going up (one in every corner) and being connected to eachother instead of just one pole on each side as it is now.

    chase if you ever do more cutting of wood make sure you keep your saw dust just in case you spill some oil on the floor.
