Showing impact and growth as a creative. I noticed your video did not mention - growth/results - meaning charts, numerical data points on how the project, design, campaign helped the client grow, increase sales etc in the portfolio presentation. Would you say this is needed or expected when creating your portfolio?
@@thecameraqt I missed this! It depends on who you're interviewing with. If you're interviewing with an art or creative director, focus on the creative. If you're interviewing with someone in marketing or sales, talk about ideas and then mix in those data points so they can have results. If you're interviewing with a writer or an editor, focus on the storytelling. Basically, speak the language of whom you're interviewing with, so that the interaction is relatable from both ends!

For my upcoming interview I was told that it would be conversational in nature, deep dive into my experience/resume and provide examples around my experience with campaigns/projects from start to finish with the hiring manager. Would you still recommend setting up a presentation like you described in your video for something that is a 30 mins long?
@@LilianaPadilla-i5u yes definitely! The format gives you the opportunity to control the conversation. They likely will let you go through all the projects you want to talk about, but even if you don’t, you can easily include in a follow up email. So exciting, good luck!!! ✨🤞✨

I am following your lead to become a Graphic Designer and I am already excited. What do you think about somebody with experience in another visual-related field (such as illustration) should show or not when presenting herself for a Design position. Should I include my work as illustrator? In what extent? Should I put the emphasis on Design and leave for last (or in between, maybe) projects what I love/worked as an illustrator? I am curious to know! Many thanks for your suggestions in advance. :)
Hi Marina, I responded via email, but I'll post here in case people are reading through the comments:
Focus: It should be on typography layout and color. You're probably strong with layout and color given your illustration background.
Exploration: It's important to showcase a range of design abilities, such as different typography styles, a clear understanding of different grids, and color palettes that make sense for the art direction of the project.
Context: Design always includes a client and the projects have a lot of moving parts, so I always find it stronger when portfolios have those projects in context, such as posters, invitations, magazines, brochures, websites, social media graphics, marketing collateral, event design, etc. Not necessary to show all of these, but wanted to give you some ideas

loved the video! i have an interview coming up and they requested me to walkthrough 2 of my most relevant projects. it is an entry level position so i don’t have too much experience but i do have relevant work for the first project i want to present. im debating for my second project if i should follow that same theme or present something else that highlights my other skills! what do you think?
Awesome! Since it's only two projects, I would choose yourr two strongest. You can certainly highlight additional skills, but I think it’s better to fold them into your presentation of the two projects. You just want to be as impressive as possible. I've never done an interview, I get hired thanks to other clients recommendations or friends working for a particular company with a current need for a designer. Usually as freelance. I'll shit myself if I ever have to do an interview. I'll stutter and shit and I'll forget how I conceive my own work when I have to explain it.
