    Thank you so so much for making this video! I’ve been pretty back and forth with updating my portfolio on squarespace (really didnt know what was the best way to go about it) and you really helped answer a lot of the questions I had in mind!! I’m quite a recent subscriber and I’m so glad to have found your channel (you really deserve more recognition and I love your honesty a lot!) I’ve really gained so much insight re: the industry along with ways to grow as a designer and I’m so thankful for that! Looking forward to more of your videos! :)

    This has been probably the most valuable video I've ever seen on portfolio creation. I am doing probably seven out of 10 of those things wrong already haha. And I've been wondering why I can't get any clients! This is absolutely the best advice I've ever received. You definitely got an instant follow here! Thank you thank you thank you hopefully I can implement these this weekend and improve my site and ultimately my business!

    Nr. 4 is the most valuable advice and a real pitfall. I guess many make their portfolios look sleek to show that they can bring value to the client, not knowing that they are doing a disservice to themselves.

    Your videos are such a great help, I would love to hear your opinion on CV because we cant leave it superrr plain but also not too much aesthetic. I'm really confused on where is the sweet spot. Love from Brazil! :)

    • @designthescenes
      @designthescenes  9 дней назад

      I can't believe still companies ask for CVs. But the sweet spot is to make readable and easy to find consume first. The best take is to make typographically nicely done - Swiss style. The problem is that designers try to design everything and it ends up becoming a mess. This is about information design. My CV is the simplest, but has a nice font choice and usage of subtle colors.

    Question: I just started my portfolio and your advice is awesome. The part that stuck with me in this video is Keep it simple! So, I make surface patterns and am looking to purchase a fabric mock up bundle to showcase my patterns on my portfolio. My question is, am I overcomplicating things by doing this? Do companies want to see the patterns on products? Or should I just keep it really simple and post the patterns as a picture on my portfolio? Thank you

    • @designthescenes
      @designthescenes  3 месяца назад

      Mockups are always helpful to display your work! start first with your pattern work, even if you have sketches on the process (1 to 3 images) then add a section: examples of usage. Then add the mockups and see how it looks. The buyer would want to see how it looks on something, and this will help sell it better.

    Omg thank you so much for this video. I have been in doubt for the last 6 months about how to create my website and showcase of my work. It is just every day I'm surfing muzli websites, and there are such cool websites out there. With animations & transitions and all of that. I would love to have them on my website too, but to be honest me wanting to capture the attention of my future clients & people comes from the thought that maybe my works are not that cool to them, so my website can be a substitute.... but as you said, my portfolio is not another project. It does not have to be perfect.

    • @designthescenes
      @designthescenes  Год назад

      Yes, your website is not just another creative project, your website is just a project of conversion: converting your portfolio into an interview.

    How about a situation where you held a job for over 21 years! However, your work is very niche to the company. Basically, I personalized certificates and created forms, stationery, and business cards for the staff. I am very functional in my job, but there is very little variety in projects I've been involved.

    • @designthescenes
      @designthescenes  Год назад +1

      Then would you say you are more a production designer? then you have to present yourself as production, you got to rely more on your CV and have a nice presentation website but your angle is not really about variety because you dont have.
