    When I was little, one of the scariest things for me was seeing the sky change to that dark blue colour, I used to think that we were going to space. I’ve grown out of that fear now, however, and find it more interesting than scary. This was a great video, brings back many old memories for me, thank you for sharing these awesome videos with us.

    4 months ago, I was on vacation in San Diego, and I've flied on Southwest Airlines to the following destinations
    Flying to San Diego
    B737 Max 8 (I think, 2014 "Heart" livery) St. Louis (STL) - Nashville (BNA)
    B737-800 (I think, 2001 "Canyon Blue" livery) Nashville (BNA) - San Diego (SAN)
    Flying home from San Diego
    B737-800 (2001 "Canyon Blue" livery) San Diego (SAN) - Salt Lake City (SLC)

    That's actually a textbook landing on a short field for an airliner, plant it down and get the WoW(weight on wheels) sensors activating so the spoilers deploy and reduce the landing roll. And yes, I was an airline pilot for eight years and a flight instructor for five. The landing isn't even all that firm. Camera I think would have shook had it been,

    • @sla31
      @sla31  2 года назад +1

      A textbook landing, definitely, but it was still rough haha. I believe you're underestimating both my camera's stabilization and my ability to hold the camera still. If I had mounted the camera to the window, it definitely would've shook. However, I hold the camera by hand and have 8 years experience doing that now. I'm very good at holding the camera still, even during a landing like this. And it also have amazing stabilization. So, it was more firm than it appears. Thanks for watching my friend!

    The hard landing was because KMDW has some crazy short runways (5500-7000ft) so when your going 140-155kts landing on a short runway like that you don’t have the runway to make a nice flare.

      Most landings in a 800 are a bit firmer than most into midway if the winds are up
      the 3 800s i rode on were less than ideal but this actually per the operators manual for the aircraft says is exactly how the plane is to be landed with "positive contact with the runway"

    Awesome flight Skylite I’ve bought the same phone you have and a mounting device When fly again I’m going to attach it like yours for the entire flight👊🛫🛫😷👏

    • @sla31
      @sla31  2 года назад +2

      That’s great my friend. A word of advice. I do not mount the phone to the aircraft when filming. I do travel with a mount, but I only use it for the airport Timelapse is that you see. iPhones have great cameras, but they are not designed to be action cameras. So, what happens, is when you mount the phone to the window, a lot of the vibrations from the engines end up getting transferred into the mount, that then get transferred into the phone. This makes the lens “wobble.” It looks like you’re filming through a clear jello filter. I do not use a mound when I am filming flights. I hold the camera by hand the entire time. In addition to allowing me to move the camera slightly to make sure I’m getting the best shot all the time, it also eliminates the problem of vibrations. Also, it’s worth noting, that’s some airlines do not allow mounts to be used. most don’t have an issue with it. But, Southwest is a notable exception. Southwest does not allow anyone to attach anything to the aircraft, even if it’s a suction cup. So keep that in mind. Good luck my friend!

    • @sla31
      @sla31  2 года назад

      Lots of practice. When I started this channel years ago, I would be doing good if I could hold the camera steady for 10 to 15 minutes at a time. Now, after having done it over and over for years, I can easily hold the camera for 90 minutes to 2 hours between taking breaks. Practice makes perfect!

    • @Edwiness

      MDW is a short runway. More flaps = more drag/lift. More lift = lower landing speed. Lower landing speed = shorter landing roll.
