    Holy cow. Thank you so much for this video. I’ve owned a recto since early 2000s and knew it was based on a fender circuit. I read the manual like a bible and was looking to get fender-esque tones on the clean channel since I’m older now (kids don’t like the heavy) and it just seemed like nu-metal clean was all it was capable of. I do have other amps that took the limelight for years and now this boosted my recto back on top. I was dialing in along with the video and MY GOD. Eternally grateful.

    Great job as always Leon, Dual Rec's and all Boogies are super versatile if you take the time to dig into them. Two things I've realized after owning Boogies for 20 years: 1) Read the manual and 2) Forget everything you think you know about how to set your EQ

    Great video/tones. I love all the comments & replies from Marshall “heads”, hating on Mesa’s sound. I am certainly biased (all puns intended), but since hearing a Mark iii in 1987, I find tones I want pretty quickly. I foolishly bought into JCM mania, and owned three before remembering the Mesa sounds. Sold all Marshall’s, and bought a Trem-o-verb in 97. 22 years later... still ‘0’ regrets.

    Used a 3 channel dual rec with my old cover band. We played everything from Kelly Clarkson to avenged sevenfold. It covered everything just fine. Clean channel, a mid gain channel for pop/rock, and the high gain modern red channel for the heavier harder rock. I loved it. The band isn't playing anymore so my dual rec is in my studio now, and play it almost every day. It's stopped my chasing for other amps.

  • @ziggyz2958
    @ziggyz2958 Год назад

    Good informative video. I have a Series 2 Single Rectifier that I originally bought to play some nu metal songs and I was really surprised when I found out how many different tones are available. Now I prefer the Vintage mode, which I think is similar to the orange channel mode on yours. Good point about the effect of different speakers/cabs. For metal I like my Mesa 2x12 Rectifier (V30) cab, but it doesn't sound that good when I want to play something lower gain. Luckily I have other cabs with C90's, V-Types, etc. for that.
    Agreed on the boost pedal. I always have one (OD808 or SD-1) in front.

    I always played the vintage mode on all my rectos back in the day. It's a smooth Marshall/Bassman type sound. @@LeonTodd The reputation for Rectos being loose comes from Modern mode being a flat-out strange design - the SLO preamp (which you and I both know the Rectifier is based on) really needs negative feedback to not be nearly uncontrollable boom and fizz. Also! I owned a Rev G with a small logo and an attached power cord, the first thousand or so seem to have the small logos. Easiest ways to tell are if the loop is parallel and the value of the gain pot - Fs and earlier use 1M pots, Gs use 250K. That's why they're so much darker.

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  5 лет назад +1

    I now use the orange channel on modern and this takes away something in the high end that you can take away with eq on the red ch.
    Much better now at high volumes.
    Also i now cut 6db @4k on my helix after the mesas pre-amp and this is a revelation.

    I like what you’re doing with this series but even as you’re saying how important speakers are to the tone, you then tell us you’re using IR’s. I’m not convinced IRs are a real “thing” although to be fair I haven’t used them. I almost feel like that would be like me demonstrating a Mesa recto tone using my Line6 Triple Rec preset. I wish you’d do these into a mic’d cab even though I personally do 90% of my guitar tracks into plugins in my DAW. Cheers for what you’re doing - I just subscribed! I played one for many years, after being a JCM-800 person. Then I went Axe-FX and I almost never use dual rects in compositions. But it is a more versatile amp than people realize, and you can get some very meaty high-gain sounds. You just have to work with the amp. For me, there's just something about the treble that I don't like as much as the JCM-derivative stack of amps (i.e. modified Marshalls, Jubilee's, AFD's, Cameron CCV)

      The KT series gets a great rep in Recto's, will have to try!

      @@LeonTodd it give a "best of both worlds" thing with the sounds of 6L6 VS EL. I never got to push her hard but my buddy who has it now keeps getting asked why his recto sounds so different at gigs haha

    I'm getting confused my friend....are you demonstrating the different sounds this amp can produce OR are you using one head and several cabinets and a ton of pedals? Your saying so much I can't understand the demonstration....thanks

    Whats funny about Rectifiers is if you play on modern for awhile,your ears get settled in on it,then when you switch to vintage,it sounds very thin and dark.
    But if you play vintage for awhile,and you switch to modern, it sounds boomy and scooped....lol.
    They should have ditched “raw” (wich is all but useless)and given you a mode in between “vintage” and “modern “. Because thats where ive always wanted my recto to sit,right in between those two.....lol.
    They really are drastically different.
    Ps....a tip for any recto user is to try KT77’s and a boost, it really helps it cut a mix.
    Bass and presence should never,ever, EVER be above 11:00 on MODERN.
    And for god sakes, keep your mids above noon....... on any mode!

    Why does your amp sound so fizzy on the high gain mode?

    There is certainly no o in rectifier. Only in Rectoverb.

    There is no ‘clean’ channel in this amp... it’s always have distortion even with gain all way down
