Its worth noting most manufacturers recommend slight toe in, not toe out. Toe in increase straight line stability and adds understeer, toe out increases turn in to corners and adds oversteer. Toe out is good for racecars and probably good for offroaders, but if you find your 4x4 wandering all over the road you could consider going slight toe in, like stock, to combat this.
Hey guys, before you put up a roof on your containers block them up on railroad ties or cinder blocks. I have 5 of these the 40 ft. ones. Here in Phoenix during the summer rains and the humidity in July, Aug & Sept. the temp change over night causes condensation to form. I didn't do anything about this the first year because it only happened two or three times but as they settled in the next year it got much worse. It got to the point that things in boxes got soaked and the problem got worse again. I had to open them during the day to let them dry out. The fix for me was to put 3 railroad ties under each one (four would be better). This will allow them to breath under them and that stopped the condensation for me. I didn't get it done in time and I lost my ammo loading press to rust and it was still in the box it came in. They still settle some so good solid ground or gravel will help.
Naval Jelly or it's variant from NAPA or ACE Hardware cleans the rust and even makes the metal like new. Even if the metal looks pitted Naval Jelly works wonders. Some times I have to a second or third round but the stuff works. Just make sure you do not purchase the cheap stuff.

Most vehicles require about 1/16 inch toe in so when driving down the road, the force will push the tires out slightly. But 4 wheel drive may be different???
Different modifications means each rig performs differently on & off road. Steersmarts spent a ton of money on equipment and testing and toe out is what they came up with for their setup. Factory recommends toe in, but our Jeep is hardly stock. Toe out works well for our setup. But it’s so easy to do on your own the best thing is to decide for yourself. 😊🤙
Set it on zero. I’ve been doing alignments over 20 years. We set toe and camber to zero on everything. Especially vehicles that have had any modifications.
I’ve always measured to the rim of the wheel with a tape measure and another person. I like this idea with the yard stick, but is measuring to the tire consistent enough?
Great video! I have done my own Jeep alignment for awhile now. BleepinJeep has a great set of metal brackets that make it more precise than using a tape measure and treads, but your method also looks more precise, easy, and cheap! BUT, if you are looking to measure castor, most of the garage method's I've seen are inaccurate. If you have adjustable control arms or are putting in a lift, and need to get that measurement, I'd strongly advise a good professional alignment shop with the proper equipment. It's under a hundred bucks and will give you an exact measurement in which you can be confident.
Kevin, now you understand what we all went through back in October of 2011 here in the North East with what we called "Snowtober." The trees still had their foliage, and they just couldn't handle the wet heavy snow load. Trees were down EVERYWHERE, and power was out for weeks. I love the idea of the containers but why are you renting them when you could possibly just buy two? Yes, I understand you would have to transport them, etc, but the ports are drowning in containers because China won't take them back. It's so bad they're literally dropping them in the streets around the port of Long Beach, CA. The same holds true for other ports as well.
Different modifications means each rig performs differently on & off road. Steersmarts spent a ton of money on equipment and testing and toe out is what they came up with for their setup. I do like the random daily tasks videos as well. As for the containers, Get them off ground, Try to block so gritters don't live underneath aswell. Like skunks opossums or even rats, Make sure dont crush your canopy cover, that would be a bummer, I enjoy all your videos
Weird. I was just putting on my shoes to go out and align my Liberty when I saw your video title. I need to straighten the wheel after replacing the rack, and reduce the camber due to uneven tire wear.
Toe causes 99% of tire wear. Camber can cause wear if it is way out/in but that’s seldom the case. Hopefully you set camber to level bubble and toe to zero. That should get you by until a proper alignment can be done. Toe being out/in by 5 degrees can cause unnecessary wear. You can’t get that exact with a tape measure or ruler. Best of luck.
Great alignment i have always used a tape and never happy.. But what I really heard you say is you need about 4 more inches of relief and yes SHE said it 🪛
On Landcruisers, you want 1-2 mm of toe in to make them run straight. They run terrible with toe-out. Also, you will need 2 hammers on most old trucks to get the rusted links to move at all, hitting them from both sides and "massaging" the threads. Its best to completely unwind them, put a ton of anti seize on it and put it back together before doing an alignment.
I've read 1/8 to 1/16 toe-in. Does it matter toe out vs. toe-in? I'm pretty sure factory specs are for toe-in. But maybe both accomplish the same thing.
@@LiteBrite that's what I thought too cuz my buddy run steer smarts on his ...... If I remember when I ran it flat it seemed like it ran the best. Next time I set my toe I'm going to run it flat thanks for the video.
@@LiteBrite can you ask them to post their data or write up a paper on it? I’ve gone toe out on track cars because it helps with handling, but to recommend it for daily driving seems off to me because you looks the centering benefits.
@@ajstar89 best thing to do is to try both on your setup and do which one you like the most. IFS and solid axle are different. Track cars are all IFS and respond differently to bumps and whatnot.
firestone $200 lifetime alignment is worth it if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself. my IFS vehicles get real alignments and my jeep gets the tape measure and eyeball alignment

I’ve been using the bleepin Jeep bolt on alignment steel channel things. Still cheaper than a single alignment but makes this even faster! (I would still totally do it this way with the tire lugs too) although I guess considering having to take the tires off, maybe not faster. Hmmmm
@@williamhadley1580 I think Mass fines you as well but I don't know how much, I do know just clearing a little square on the driver's side doesn't count

That’s a cool method of alignment. I’ve been doing my own for a while now as well. I usually take a tape measure and measure from caliper to caliper on front and back, but the gears stick method seems easier. Don’t need to get as deep in there. I like it!
Its worth noting most manufacturers recommend slight toe in, not toe out. Toe in increase straight line stability and adds understeer, toe out increases turn in to corners and adds oversteer.

Exactly what I was taught.
Yes sir correct 👌 good call.
Was thinking the same thing, my JK specs are for a slight toe-in. 1/16 - 1/8"
I too was under the impression to toe in not out.. I’m running 1/8 toe in and it’s perfect for my xj. I Never pay for alignment.
1/8th inch toe in is what I’ve always ran and had great results with. Toe out can cause some major issues with wear and wobble

Steersmarts did a whole bunch of testing and we use to run 1/16 toe in as well but with all the data testing they did they came up with 1/16 toe out
@@LiteBrite that's what I thought too cuz my buddy run steer smarts on his ......
What spring rates does the blue Jeep have front and rear?
firestone $200 lifetime alignment is worth it if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself. my IFS vehicles get real alignments and my jeep gets the tape measure and eyeball alignment
IFS is a bit trickier. I just hate waiting at those shops and they never seem to do a great job. Have to find a place that cares
@@LiteBrite yeah its hard to find guys who really care in those commercial shops, I haven't tried it at any other firestones but the guys in the shop at the one nearby are good
Brilliant, love LBN, so awesome, love just random stuff, and ‘SNOW’.
What’s the reason for running toe out? I’ve always ran toe in 1/8”, makes you track straight down the road
Different modifications means each rig performs differently on & off road. Steersmarts spent a ton of money on equipment and testing and toe out is what they came up with for their setup. Factory recommends toe in, but our Jeep is far from stock & handles/performs better with toe out. But it’s so easy to do on your own the best thing is to decide for yourself. 😊🤙
I’ve been using the bleepin Jeep bolt on alignment steel channel things. Still cheaper than a single alignment but makes this even faster! (I would still totally do it this way with the tire lugs too) although I guess considering having to take the tires off, maybe not faster. Hmmmm
OohRah! Semper Fidelis Chris!
Kevin you need to clear the snow off your back window, there is a name for people like you here in Ma who don't clear the snow off their windows😄
Yeah someone who gets a $250 fine in NH 🤑🤑🤑🤑
@@williamhadley1580 I think Mass fines you as well but I don't know how much, I do know just clearing a little square on the driver's side doesn't count

Do you toe out only for off roading to prevent bending the tie rod? Most alignments you toe in.

Is that a Level lllA body armor??
That’s a cool method of alignment. I’ve been doing my own for a while now as well. I usually take a tape measure and measure from caliper to caliper on front and back, but the gears stick method seems easier. Don’t need to get as deep in there. I like it!
