4K CAB VIEW: True to eye view of the Flåm Railway (Myrdal - Flåm)

  • A GoPro can show you vast and beautiful sceneries because of it's super wide lense, but it can never show you how truly spectacular some view really are in real life.
    This will give you the true to eye view of the scenic Flåm Railway from Myrdal to Flåm. The mountains are so much steeper, so much closer and so much more detailed. The curves are so much tighter and the gradient looks so much steeper compared to what you can get out of a GoPro.
    Enjoy!

    You posted this in June and I'm only seeing it now. I usually react to the beauty with "oooh" or "wow" or "jeez," and they were plentiful, but I outright gasped when you pulled into the station at 26:35, hoping you'd stay slow until we got passed that magnificent waterfall. BUT when you stopped at 26:55, I gasped more and deeper. Thank you for that. When we left the tunnel 33:30, another gasp at the big and more narrow falls. I remembered we were in a tunnel-rich section, so I figured that was it, but no! This is perhaps the most spectacular video you made for us, and I see you're "live" now, so I'll pay what I can to keep you doing these.

    Just over a year ago our family was lucky enough to do this fabulous train ride. We loved the Huldra spirit singing at the Kjosfossen waterfall (12:56) and your videos instantly take us back there. We absolutely loved our time in Norway and despite not being able to travel at the moment, thankfully we have videos like yours to enjoy! Regards and thank you from Sydney, Aust - Dave and family

    I’ve only just discovered your excellent work! This camera setup is fab. The greens really are green. It’s been almost 30 years since I did Myrdal-Flåm-Myrdal (Octob er ‘92) but it’s not the kind of thing you forget!
    The rolling stock wasn’t particularly stable back then, and when a gang of very enthusiastic Japanese tourists saw the falls at ca. 35 mins., they all crossed from one side of the coach to the other. Think I heard creaking…
    Keep up the excellent work, you really do take driver’s cab footage to new levels! Tusen takk!!

    RCG, yes this new camera definitely shows off the steepness of both the track grade and of the topography. Also the slow track speed which isn't as noticeable with the GoPro video. It seemed like you were going really slow after the first station below Myrdal. Normal? I loved seeing all the waterfalls and details like rust on the rails. Definitely had that "lock-down" vibe to it (where are all the people?) which sort of matched the gloomy weather.

Excellent work and the other video is just as good. I will look forward to many more with this excellent video true to life processing. Waterfalls and lots of green with great contrast.

    • @RailCowGirl

      It's quite a gradient, isn't it... They use a banking loco both on the way up and down, even with the shorter config. of four carriages. But even that can be scary, especially in humid below zero temperatures. Not to mention in autumn when there are leaves on the line. I'm in awe of The Cowgirl and all her colleagues. They're consumate professionals.

    RCG didn't realize the decline with the other videos, WOW, leaving Myrdal really looks different. What is the angle you start there at because the isn't any indicator. My perspective on the line really did change a lot. Thank you sooo much !

      @@RailCowGirl Sure looks steeper than that, it's a long long 5.5 must have a delicate balance with dynamic brakes. And the other end what a strain on the electric motors with a heavy load.

    What time of day was this recorded? Very little is moving as one would expect during daylight hours. With your extended daylight there in the north, one does not know day from "night". Another overall point for viewers, posting dates do not mean recording dates but our presenter seems to post shortly after she records the trips.

    Next step is to record with two cameras set 10cm apart and edit the video so the recordings are side-by-side. This way you can have full 3D.

    I would imagine maintenance along the line is a full-time job...?---Any idea how long it takes to become a qualified engineer?---Mind-boggling, the amount of blasting it took to carve through mountains...The waterfalls are a wonderful surprise!---How many times a day does the train make that run?

    • @RailCowGirl

      To become a engineer/driver in Norway you need to apply for the national rail academy. 1 year of education and up to six months training after that in the company you're hired by.

    The only complaint I have is THE SPEED OF THE TRAIN IS TOO SLOW! Is there a reason for the slowness? Other than that the scenery was fantastic!

    • @RailCowGirl
      @RailCowGirl  4 года назад

      The speed on this line is 40kmh up and 30kmh down due to the gradient and curvature. PHYSICS is the reason. ;)

      This is clearly taken between may and september. It wouldn`t be leaves on trees if it was taken in winter, and you probably would see snow on the tops of mountains.

      @@anndahl733 but there is already snow on the mountains? x_x

    • @RailCowGirl
      @RailCowGirl  3 месяца назад

      This video was filmed in June. The snow in the mountains takes a lot longer to melt, and some summers it doesn't melt at all. Depends on the temperatures. In cold summers there can come fresh snow in the mountains in July. In the winter, the snow will cover the tracks and come almost all the way down to Flåm.
