- The famous Flåm Railway in Autumn colors and afternoon sun. October is on us and the autumn colors are everywhere.
Today we're going down from Myrdal to Flåm on the afternoon departure leaving at 1545.
The Flåm Railway is a 20.4km long line that goes from Flåm at sea level by the Aurland fjord and up the mountain to Myrdal station at 866m above sea level. Myrdal is the connection station for the Flåm Railway and the Bergen Line. The Flåm Railway is the steepest adhesion normal gauge railway in Northern Europe with it's gradient of 55‰ (1:18/5.5%) gradient. Because of the steep gradient and sharp curves with a readious of 130m the speed is limted to 30km/h down and 40km/h up. Some sections are even limited to 20km/h.

well before my keyboard broke i did go look at some classic maps and i was surprised by the direction this railway goes seems like pretty rugged terrain to get threw butt they did and it is a masterpiece how wonderfull and also very very nice that you show us all thank you very very much probally the greatest tourism show in all of norway

I think that this might be my favorite non-winter video you've EVER posted. I live in Vermont and the fall colors are amazing here, but they are NOTHING like what I see in this video. Wow. And I LOVE the sideviews. I know there are a lot of people who geek out over the cabview videos, but the thing that's great about the side views is that it is a PASSENGER VIEW!!! I can very easily imagine that's how it will look when I finally ride! Anyway, I watched this before going to bed and I had amazing Norway dreams! Seriously. I SO can't wait to visit when things are back to normal. Thank you!

There are no words to express the majestic beauty of this magnificent scenery on this train ride. It's like viewing something out of a fairytale novel. If I was younger and able to visit I would. Trains are by far my favourite mode of traveling.. because you can sit at one place and just watch the world run in the opposite direction. I love watching out of the window of a train.. i mean who doesn't?

Beautiful Autumn colors. When was this recorded? If we can start traveling again I'd love to rent a car and road trip with the autumn leaves. Went to Colorado in late September and was too early for the color change.
I took this trip in the summer of '72, and when the train came to Kjosfossen falls, it stopped and we were able to get out and take pictures. Does the train still do that? Also, I can remember vividly the crystal blue waters of the streams that came into Flåm. It was beautiful! Love the autumn colors of this video!
The train still does that :D as you could see out from this stop we had an extended stop at Kjosfossen :D F

@@RailCowGirl Thanks! I wasn't sure if you still let people off the train. That other video was fun, a great look at the falls, but I don't think we were treated to the music and the Hulder. But then, that was almost 50 years ago, so I may not remember. LOL

Thank you! ❤️ Yes, that is snow on top of the mountains, and it's almost right on time. In fact's it's a little late, but that is because of the warm air push we've had from the Atlantic the past month.
when looking sideways on the pillars, you can see how strong the slope of the track is, how the steam locomotives coped there earlier ...
It's pretty impressive! :D
So that's how it looks like from the driver's seat... Interesting, I always wanted to see the wooden structure on the side of the mountain, I expected it to be a bit more "messy" with lots of cuts and an older looking appearance, I guess there might be some careful preparations for when to add the new planks and do mainteneance. It's unfortunate the stop at Kjossfossen is so short you can't look it out from your window, well, I guess one disadvantage out of the great scenery is not that bad.

It’s not random. Look for the yellow diamond shaped signs. A horizontal line means level crossing, a vertical line means halt/station. Both lines = both.

@@RailCowGirl ah thanks I figured as much... it was just when I turned on the stream before bed and I wasn’t able to do my routine hi to the staff I got so much anxiety and a bit of depression... I like following a schedule so if it’s messed up even a little bit my mind goes haywire. To reassure myself I super-chatted before bed $1.99 it’s not much but it’s all I have currently (I’m still looking for work, I’ll send more when I get a job I promise) thank you for the reply I can rest assured now.
