Considering this ssp very strongly. Have an arcam av40 at the moment and Mcintosh power amps. With the storm I would run 7.6.9 and maybe also add 3 screen heights for DTS:X Pro. Looking forward to the review

Merry Christmas... I think people that really love Audio/Video home theatre should look outside at what’s parked in h driveway. How quickly that vehicle value drops and within a couple years the magic of driving it is over. Your pockets are turne inside out an guess what there is a newer model coming out . This cycle continues and continues. Compare that to your investment in your audio/video where the enjoyment is never ending. The excitement you had the day it was installed is repeated every time you watch a new 4K Bluray. Just think of the equipment you could have like Trinnov, or this Storm if you applied the same spending on your equipment that you would spend over a 7 year new car loan. Also, it will continue to bring smiles with every explosion on your screen...
I’m so exited to see the upcoming videos of your smart home and the Storm Audio processor. That thing looks like a real beast! I run the HTP-1 with Dirac Live Bass Control and that software is for real - the detail in the bass on good recordings is pretty remarkable. Can’t wait to see what results you get with it. Also very cool that you’re going all digital. Exiting times when an AVP can do all that.
Thanks for the video gene I am shooting for the denonx8500 so this is a little above what I'm looking at but that doesn't matter i just want a nice solid system but I keep watching you and I think its great watching and learning from the stuff you discuss here appreciate yall keep it up and congrats on the new storm unit and the new smart home which should be pretty close to being done
I'm in the process of building a dedicated home theater that will support all audio formats. It will have 20 speaker channels, and 4 subs. Unfortunately I can't afford a processor like this so I'll have to play musical chairs with the connections when I change formats. It'll be a pain, especially with the calibration, but still looking forward to it. It would just be so much easier with a great processor like this.
Really cool processor Gene. Storm Audio also make the SP4 processor for Bryston and the Astral 16 receiver for Focal, which are just rebranded. I only wish that Storm Audio integrated higher-end DAC chips from ESS or AKM instead of the Analog Devices ones they use considering the selling price. I'm looking forward to seeing your Audio Precision measurements of the DAC section of this processor. The digital crossover functionality for your front-end speakers is really awesome and should make your RBH monsters even more transparent. Enjoy my friend and keep listening!
thanks for the info as I suspected the Focal was a clone. Analog Devices makes very good DAC's and implementation usually matters more than DAC chips used. I can't wait to test digital connections on this baby for sure!
I recently picked up the Marantz 8015. Gene, I can’t wait to see the home theater when its complete! Are u gonna have a grand opening and charge for seats to demo your 1st movie? Count me in! Thanks for all you do here on RUclips
Great video, and the timing (for me) couldn’t be better. I’m getting one of these (the base model) on Sunday! It looks like my Harmony remote can also control it. I sure hope so. Getting out my phone to adjust the volume would be a hassle, and I prefer physical volume buttons. Your video made me somehow even MORE excited for this processor. Also - nice work including video of the “peeling off the plastic protective film.” That’s top-notch audiophile porn right there.
Looks awesome! I look forward to checking out the measurements for this thing. Would love to see 5-8 volts rms max unclipped and signal to noise&distortion above 100dB at max voltage on the XLR outputs.
Very cool how your going to use the high amount of channels the processor has to offer to do your DSP control, I was thinking you where going to put 32 speakers in your new home theater😂
Excellent intro Gene. 24 fully differential! Dirac!! Webservice interface! Roon! Very similar but better (?) than the Monoprice HPT-1. French engineering (electrical, mechanical or computer) is not known for excellence but who knows, they could be having found a niche in boutique avp's 😄 My main aversion for a product like this is I don't see how the rest of my family would be able to use it.. Would me being away stop them from watching a movie or play multiroom audio? Giving remote support for common tasks will end up ending my marriage! 🤪 The 10year old 8-9 Sonos products still runs fine in our house, even grandma 67 can use the basics of the system when baby sitting etc
WE have an HTP-1 in for review right now. The one thing the HTP-1 lacks is a dedicated analog path of audio which is disappointing for a product of that price.
Thanks Gene, I appreciate learning about what is available in State of the Art products. While cost prohibitive currently for me it will be interesting to see if a scaled down version may appear in a device that is more easily obtainable in the future. Seems like Dirac Live is really developing useful product while Audyssey has been stagnant.
Hey Gene, Would you be so kind as to offer your opinion on a good FM antenna and wire for a home or garage roof top ? Building a new home here in SC. Time to select the antenna and wire. Thanks, Clasvi
There is a generation shift right now with HDMI 2.0 to HDMI 2.1. I would wait two years to give the manufacturers time to get it right. Or get an older unit at a heavily discounted price, just make sure it has eARC.
If this is what Home Theater heaven has in store for me, I shall not fear death! I love how this massive surround processor makes Gene look like a schoolboy with spaghetti hanging out his sleeves.
If the room is big enough I would use all channels. I now have 9 speakers, 2 subwoofers and center. This is good for my space. I have the Marantz SR7013, Front Kef Model 4.2 Reference, Center Large Klipsch and Rear Front Top Front Rear Quad speakers. I am very satisfied with the sound. And then I look at a 150 inch screen and the Projector is from Optoma 1080P 3D ...😉
Using 3 different manufacturer's speakers for your front left & right, centre, surround speakers isn't recommended for watching movies. The tonal balance, timbre, synergy will be a mishmash! Though centre speaker can get away with it if it's a good quality high performance speaker. Good with voices, which mainly come through the centre channel. Sticking to one manufacturer with similar drivers, tweeters, power handling, Ohms, sensitivity will yield much better results 😉
@@C--A Thanks for your message. I've had speakers from the same brand in the past. 3 different brands. And quite expensive sets. The sound was certainly good. Little confused. Do you have to dedicate a channel per sub? You say you have 6. You're down to 18 channels. You said you are tri amping your front stage? that's 9 channels right there. Am I confused or are you trying to do too much? Or just your L and R. Leaving you with 12 open channels? 1 short for 7.x.6.
No the front stage gets 8 channels (triamped mains + LFE, biamped center), 6 overhead speakers, 4 surrounds, 2 additional subs so that's a total of 20 channels with 4 spares.
@@Audioholics I m glad you clarified this Gene. I was also calculating 9 for LCR (didnt know if tri amp centre is likely though), so i was thinking the 7.x.6 was (9+4).(2+2).(6) = 13.4.6 amps = 23 and you nearly blew past 24. hahaha
