      Wendy's-chicken-tendies This was great, thanks, been searching for "what are alternatives to plastic packaging?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Denadison Simplified Dominance - (should be on google have a look )? It is an awesome one off guide for discovering how to find a great alternative to single use plastic without the hard work. Ive heard some great things about it and my mate got excellent results with it.

    This is really good, I don't see much people make videos talking about how plastic was made and how ridiculous it is to use one-use things that are incredibly harmful to our ecosystem, they just say "don't use plastic, it kills sea creatures" or things like that without explaining why or how plastic could easily end up in the ocean in the first place. Your channel definitely deserves better, man. Can't believe Pewdiepie, T-series, meaningless channels like that get super popular but not yours, your video editing skills are perfect as well !

    There is a coffee shop in Whistler, BC Canada called Moguls Coffee. It’s got great coffee and food and snacks, but what makes it stand out is the fact that they have pasta noodles to stir your coffee. Like hard uncooked fettuccine noodles in a cup. You grab one, stir your coffee (or tea) then you simply put the used fettuccine noodle in a compost bucket . So simple, but it makes a huge difference when it comes to single use plastic and choices

    Explanation in a nutshell , thankyou! I'm super aware. Of the whole plastic problem , but I hadn't given the traveling of it a thought . When I was young I went to a pellet factory with a buddy, I remember feeling excited by all this fun stuff every where , it was littered all over the yarn which to me as a youngster was imense, it looked like snow . As a child of course this was fantastic, but as I got older I nervous forgot the mess and the waste. I never knew where it was , I never asked and I was never told, I was so young.

    so just to discuss. single use w/e is misleading because i can recycle it. and also reusable bags/utensils/bottles is great and all (I have my favorite thermal that I've been using for 3 years) but what if its not used enough to offset the materials used to make it. Would be a good video if you went over the cost of reusable plastic/metal vs as you said single use.

    • @stp52x
      @stp52x 7 лет назад +5

      How often do you replace your metal utensils? What cost is there to go over?
      You want him to project the cost of a lifetime supply of plastic utensils and compare them to the price of a few metal ones? Or are you talking about the environmental costs? There is no comparison to be made here.

    • @PhlyDaily
      @PhlyDaily 7 лет назад +1

      Hey Ozy thanks for the civil convo first. To respond to the first statement you had...Maybe once every 3-5 years. It's a discussion to be had, that yes reusable things are better. but are people up to it. You know bringing your own equipment to restaurants (fast food/coffee joints) . I agree it would be better, but is it easier? I feel like we need to refine the way we recycle and the way the corporations dish out these materials.

    • @jeyanthiprabhu1338
      @jeyanthiprabhu1338 6 лет назад +2

      Its not just the cost of production,its also the landfill filling up after we use the product.
      Recycling mostly takes a lot of energy(still eco friendly) and reusable is mostly the best option.

    I think single use utensils should be made of wood or bamboo. I mean we already make our single use chopsticks out of that so it's clearly feasible 🤷‍♂️
    (In b4 someone goes "but deforestation!!": Cheap wood is made from farmed pine. They plant two trees for every one they cut down. Every see what looks like a line tree forest all in neat rows? That's actually a line farm. Those trees were planted to be cut down for cheap lumber. Pine grows fast and straight up, so it's ideal. As for bamboo: it's actually a grass, and it grows SUPER fast and easily.)

    • @yeahnoway111
      @yeahnoway111 5 лет назад

      Thats true, but rainforests are being cut down without planting new trees.

    • @Mycatsname
      @Mycatsname 5 лет назад

      Actually bamboo is used to make disposable chopsticks, bamboo could be used for cutlery and straws and recycled into fertiliser for more bamboo. It’s so easy that I don’t know why they haven’t swapped over already

    Why use straws if you can drink from the cup

    • @TheFeldhamster
      @TheFeldhamster 3 года назад

      It's much easier to drink from a straw when you're driving. And old people in nursing homes or handicapped people often have problems drinking from cups. Not only because they have to lift the cup but because they can choke when drinking from a cup. It's much easier to regulate the flow of liquid with a straw. It may sound like not much of a problem but if you often choke on liquid you can get damage your lungs and get pneumonia and this is actually a big problem in nursing homes and with some disabled people.

    i wonder how long you can clean and reuse plastic eating devices like sporks and knifes until you have to throw them out?

    I must apologise for the ridiculous amount of disposable cutlery in the video itself! I found it in an old cupboard as opposed to buying it new if that's any consolation.
    i'm almost gonna give this video a hate comment until i see this. good job! love your channel

    Our High School (Secondary) is reducing plastic by having wooden cutlery and Paper cups as well as reducing the plastic plates, I really like how they are doing this to save our earth even if it’s only 1000 people trying too.

      It's a high school with a cafeteria? Why can't they use real plates and cutlery and wash them like every other cafeteria on the planet? Why do they use throw away stuff?

    You could also wash the single use plastic items and recycle them, the process of plastic creation will go faster

    Did you know that 8 million metric tons of plastic waste ends up in the ocean each year and 31 million tons of it is the UK's?

      Yeah, nice spot.... I didn't want to buy anything new for this video as it would kinda defeat the purpose, so some old styrofoam cups were all I could find around the house, sorry! Hopefully it still illustrates the point :)

    I love your content and I agree with your suggestions. But we don't really have too many cheap alternatives to plastic that is a sustainable business model

    • @HalfAsleepChris
      @HalfAsleepChris  6 лет назад +1

      I know unfortunately, all we can hope is that alternatives gain traction enough for businesses to bother making them viable

      where i'm from, a few food companies have used cornware instead of regular plastic for cutlery, which is definitely a better option. however, it is still wrapped in plastic, but it's a step in the right direction!

      Idk, here we've had these thin wooden stirrers for a while. You don't need a spoon to stir coffee.
      Most other fast food doesn't require cutlery and if you do a barbecue yourself you can just bring metal cutlery (or multi use plastic cutlery) and take it home afterwards and wash it.
      You can't avoid all single use plastic all the time (think eg syringes) but throwaway spoons are pretty unnecessary.
