Great tips!!! I have a love-hate relationship with smartavgbuy: when I have mats stockpiled (looking at you, Shrouded Cloth!), I love that the market price isn't used, but when I'm running low and need to restock mats to craft everything, TSM can tell me I'm going to make a profit when I'm definitely not, so I have it set in there, but I keep an eye on things when I'm restocking inventory. Also, I will almost always craft jewel clusters and doublets instead of buying them from the AH just because while I'm technically losing gold because I could vendor the gems I just can't be bothered to vendor the stockpile of them I keep on hand specifically to offset the cost of buying the crafted items (as I'm typing this, I realize how stupid that is since I'll eventually vendor stacks of the gems anyway because I have enough on-hand to cover any restocking of clusters and doublets I might need to do, but it's the principle! lol).
Hi Penguin. As always, thank you for your great videos. On the topic of smartavgbuy, I dont know if you recall it but you are the one who explained it to me earlier in a comment and I have not stopped using it since then. My issue is this tho, and using the exact same example that you used cause I encounter it alot. Lightless silk. Lets say you stock piled lots of it at 25g when it was the cheapest, then the market suddenly drops to 20g and stays that way until tsm resets its dbmarket to current prices. Based on the price sources you have, wouldn't tsm pick the dbmarket since its set to be min of xxx? And wouldn't that eventually cause you to have crafting price lower than the real value?
Yes it would then start using 20g. If the dbmarket changes and drops, then there was a big shift in market and will probably not return to its peak (the price you bought it at before) unless something big happens. Dbmarket is a weighed 14 day avg, so if your dbmarket drops, that means that item is consistently being placed at a cheaper price, so if you still have an AvgBuy of 25g, you bought some before the item crashed. An example is the huge buff that happened to all SL trade goods, callous hide that used to be 20g a piece is now sitting at 2g…. If you still had an SmartAvgBuy of 20g, that means you bought your stockpile at that price before the market sadly crashed. If you choose to keep valuing that 20g mark, you will most likely never see profit as the market is just not there anymore. Sometimes you have to take losses. Of course if you always want to use SmartAvgBuy no matter what, only use that source. But the min() allows you to still see true profit with your market
@@Penguinr2gt Exactly. So think about it, based on what we both just agreed on, dont you think it's a safer bet to keep smartavgbuy as the only prices source for material that you usually buy from AH in order for you to have an accurate indicator of the exact profit or loss you make? You can always adjust your Operations minimum prices to say 80%crafting or else to accommodate the loss but atleast this way you know exactly what goes on. Thats what I do but am open for suggestions if you see any downside to this method. Oh and Big Thanks for the prompt response.
I personally disagree with the fact of keeping it as your only source. The only issue that you run into is when markets crash. And at that point, you just have to accept your loss (like the callous hide price is never going back to 20g each). Having to go in and adjust anything is just more work, having to mess with operations - unless you assign a different operation to every single item you sell - will affect a lot more than just the market that crashed and then you have to remember to readjust it back to being profitable later. Having the min() will allow TSM to auto correct itself and then you just have to accept the fact that you are now valuing your callous hide at 2g instead of 20g as that is just not realistic anymore. It comes down to personal preference but I personally think a lot more can go wrong with keeping SmartAvgBuy as your only source. Also this is me taking what you said literally, but if you are not using if statements or first() statements, which I assume you would be, if you do not own any of the materials you will error out as SmartAvgBuy will no longer be valid.
@@Penguinr2gt I actually dont use first() as u said 🤣🤣. And yes I do run into the exact scenario you mentioned when I run out of mats, that's why I always buy the recommended crafting material+1 to keep the smartavg working 🤣. Many thanks for the valuable input, have a great day/night ahead.
Haha yea have a great day! If you like to use simple SmartAvgBuy I would suggest maybe making the change of using first(SmartAvgBuy, dbmarket) and that’ll make it not error out, of course the +1 method works as well lol
I tried dm you, but I am sure u were busy trying to get pass the bot. U did on my phone after work. Then got home and tried on computer, got blocked again by bot. Lol

Haha I don’t blame you! SmartAvgBuy definitely has its advantages and disadvantages
Thank you for the video! No1 tip I applied, so good!

tsm didnt change smartavgprice for me reload didn't work, too. any idea what is the problem?
You need to use “SmartAvgBuy” as your variable
@@Penguinr2gt how can i do that? i changed all what you explaned in the video :
You said you tried to use smartavgprice but it’s smartavgbuy so you were using the wrong name
@@Penguinr2gt was my bad iam using smartavgbuy not smartavg price i will figure it out but thanks
