There are “sleep apnea” studies where they monitor people’s sleep. I did one actually. You go to a hospital and they monitor you for days; you have to sleep there.
the feeling of my tongue on my chin is REALLY weird but I did it and i already feel like something opened and i can breath a little bit better. thank you!
Thank you! Will share this with my sister. She is recovering from a stroke and noticed a change in her respiration at rest and going to consult her md about cpap. We ll sure give it a try. Better than trying to sleep with a mask on your face.
Definitely sounds like your sister could benefit from this exercise, but we strongly recommend seeking that consultation with her doctor about a CPAP as well, especially since she's a victim of stroke! This exercise is not a substitute for PAP therapy, because the latter is still the gold standard of treatment.
Sorry so late but just saw this video. If your sister is recovering from a stroke and it changed her respiration patterns these exercises probably won't help much. These exercises help tone the muscles in the throat and tongue so it's not as flabby to cause obstructive sleep apnea (osa). If the breathing pattern is affected by stroke then some part of of brain that controls her breathing signals has been damaged and this is called central sleep apnea not simple obstructive sleep apnea. When this happens not even regular CPAPs are good enough. You'll need a specialized one called ASV bilevel PAP machine to treat central apnea along with oxygen supplementation most likely.
I’m going for a test soon for sleep apnea.I’ve already seen this suggested as well as yoga poses. I’d like to ask how effective pulling your tongue out has been and if you’ve been able to reverse it completely Thanks in advance
I tried using cpap machine but would always wake up during the middle of the night because of air flow through my mouth while being conmected. Is my problem more of a Tongue/jaw issue instead?
Yes, we do! Researchers have found that doing repetitive oropharyngeal exercises while you're awake can help keep the tissue from becoming excessively floppy and vibrating during sleep. Several studies have shown that toning these muscles has been shown to help reduce snoring and milder forms of obstructive sleep apnea, but this one was looked at specifically: Guimarães, K. C., Drager, L. F., Genta, P. R., Marcondes, B. F., & Lorenzi-Filho, G. (2009). Effects of oropharyngeal exercises on patients with moderate obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. I recently gained more weight and the symptoms of sleep apnea. Really hard to stay asleep and I keep getting uo every hour. The sooner I lose weight, the quicker I can deal with this 😅
Losing weight is a great start, but it won't necessarily correct your symptoms of sleep apnea. If you already suspect you have OSA, please talk to your doctor about having a sleep study done. This will tell them exactly how severe your symptoms really are and if you need to seek additional treatment options beyond lifestyle changes; like PAP therapy.
@@aeroflowsleep does people with grade 2 sleep apnea have to sleep with that machine? My dot says I have sleep apnea but from what my girlfriend has told me, I dont snore at all when I'm sleeping. I dont fall asleep everywhere or even driving. How can I have sleep apnea if I'm not showing signs?
@@solidsnake8331 Snoring is just one possible symptom of sleep apnea. You don't have to snore to have it. There may be other signs present that are less common but are known to your doctor; such as headaches, mood swings, even insomnia. If they recommend a machine, we recommend a machine.
Sounds like you may have a tongue tie. If you don’t know what that is, it’s skin attacked to the underside of your tongue that connects to the bottom part of your mouth. You can see it clearly if you have one by auctioning your tongue to the roof of your mouth. If you can’t do that, then I’d recommend getting evaluated by an ENT doctor. They can release the tie and free your tongue. It can help with a lot of stuff if you have one and get it revised, if it’s really short or tight.
Do these simple exercise. Strech your neck muscles underneath jaw line as if you are picking weight through it. When you stretch it lift your neck all the way up and start streching your neck muscles and make your lips as if you are kissing the ceiling. Do it atleast 10 times a day

@@Yewerd It sounds like your condition is focused on the breathing pattern itself and not sleep apnea, so this exercise may not be right for you. Not trying to be nasty, but does going down on my lady help? It seems when I do I sleep better. My tongue gets a workout out, sometimes I’m down there so long it goes numb, but I sleep great. Is this a good exercise or am I just bugging out?
Vulgarity aside, yes! Tongue exercises certainly aren't conventional, so any way you can extend your tongue over a prolonged period of time and at multiple angles would help with OSA. Just be sure that if you do have sleep apnea, you don't substitute a more fun activity for PAP therapy, because the latter is still the gold standard of treatment.
I dont know why i am saying this...i do watch youtube same like others in average does. Firstly you are very beautiful. And yess you are very honest. I got hard proofs on that. Let me tell you why. Lets see....will definitely give feedback after 2 weeks..thank you.
Being a side sleeper may be best for OSA, but it definitely doesn't get rid of the possibility that you have sleep apnea. Your obstruction may be caused by enlarged tonsils or adenoids or a stop-gap between your tongue and the soft palate of your mouth. You could also have CSA instead; this type of sleep apnea occurs not from an obstruction but from your brain signals failing to keep the throat muscles open while you sleep. Ask your doctor is you should be tested for sleep apnea!
That's a great question! Yes, you can definitely have sleep apnea if you sleep on your stomach. In fact, you can have sleep apnea regardless of your sleeping position, but back and stomach sleepers may have it worse. That's because gravity pushes your throat muscles down when you sleep on your back or stomach, making the cause of collapse and obstruction more likely. Always try to sleep on your side if you have OSA!
