    I used the dental device for about five years. It worked to control most of my snoring due to sleep apnea, however, using this device messed up my bite to the point where I could not chew food because my jaw had been moved forward permanently and my back teeth no longer touched to allow chewing. I was told that if I bit on a rubber device each morning, it would put my lower jaw back in place. It did not do the job. I had to get a CPAP to treat the sleep apnea and when went to a holistic dentist to move my palate forward to create more space in the back of the throat and according to my dentist, the lower jaw will follow the movement of the upper jaw with the help of "pillows" that are put on the lower back teeth. After all of this is accomplished - braces to put my teeth back in their proper place. Nice, huh? All because of that dental device. FYI, when I went for the sleep apnea test to get a CPAP, the technician commented that many of her patients had the same problem with the dental device. Beware.

      Yep I tried one of these type of products and immediately noticed discomfort. I was told just to keep using it and I would get used to it. I found I would end up removing it most nights as it was so painful that I couldn't get to sleep in the first place. I ended up returning it for a refund. I know that using a CPAP would mean II wouldn't be able to sleep with it on either, I'm a stomach and side sleeper but generally have to fall asleep on my stomach.
      I recall seeing a surgical option years ago that inserted somthing to stiffen the soft tissue so that it couldn't vibrate to cause the snoring. Does that stop the issue of sleep apnea? Who knows.

      @Steve Sherman Evidence: "The ACP’s first recommendation centers on weight loss for people who are overweight and obese. The link between excess weight and sleep apnea is well established. People who are overweight have extra tissue in the back of their throat, which can fall down over the airway and block the flow of air into the lungs while they sleep.
      Though losing weight is easier said than done, it can yield real results. 'If we can get people to lose weight, it would make both sleep apnea and other health problems [such as heart disease] go away,' says Dr. Epstein. Losing just 10% of body weight can have a big effect on sleep apnea symptoms. In some cases, losing a significant amount of weight can even cure the condition." www.health.harvard.edu/blog/weight-loss-breathing-devices-still-best-for-treating-obstructive-sleep-apnea-201310026713

    The mouthpiece is more for milder sleep apnea. However, just like CPAP, it is a band-aid approach just like CPAP. There is also a UVVV surgery that is pretty dangerous and doesn't always have the greatest results. You can also check for swollen turbinates and a deviated septum at the ENT doctor (which is my issue presently, pending surgery for both). As a *warning* for those who consider a mouthpiece...these things *CAN* make your teeth move and mess your bite up, requiring dental work later. To me, that's not worth it.

    I've been using my mouth pieces for about 5 years, sleeping is never a problem, zero snoring since. They do work. I just stopped repositioning my jaw every morning. I can't chew with my molars very well because they don't come together anymore, but it's only slightly annoying. Totally worth it. In fact, if I forget to put my mouth pieces in, my jaw stays forward and I can sleep just fine for a couple of days before it starts to go back to normal. These things are extremely expensive, or were when I got mine anyway, but they do last of you take care of them. To be clear, my dentist prepared about 8 different devices for me to try where I got the best sleep. I had about 8 appointments over several months. This isn't something you want to cheap out on.

    I already bought lots of snoring solutions on Amazon in the past but in my opinion the nose vents definitely stand out in quality (very soft material/BPA free) and effectivity. I actually prefer 'the original nose vents of Flowland' because I was suprised that I got 2 cases with 8 vents for a fraction of the price (while I don't feel or see any difference at all with the original one of Snorecare … I compared them because I was curious). So now I keep one case at home, and 1 for travelling.
    I also tested it out of curiosity with the snorelab app on my iphone and there was a real difference for several nights in a row (almost no loudness with the nose vents in). It’s a free app and it’s very straightforaward to use (you can even hear your own snoring!)

Where as someone might be genetically predisposed to having dementia or Parkinson's, OSA will compound the situation greatly. Almost all neurodegenerative diseases can be linked to sleep apnea and the lack of REM sleep. I use a CPAP and I hate it. The best solution is jaw and neck exercise that are designed to strengthen the muscles in that area and reduce floppiness, and lose fat in that area as well. Incredibly effective.

      Sleep Apnea???? !!!!!! Gee, I just read how he died. Horrific way to go. I wonder if it was user error, (from sleep apnea), substance abuse, heart attack from all the above, or mechanical malfunction. A close friend (Off Shore Race Boat Driver) died the same way on I95 in his Ferrari in West Palm Beach in a fiery crash and he was having heart problems from Apnea. Made me get the o'l ticker checked out in an emergency in 2012, & the CT-A heart-scan was o.k. then 2 heart attacks in 2018. ALL FROM SLEEP APNEA. Everybody with sleep-apnea needs to get a CT-A to look for arterial scarring before it bursts into a blood clot.......
      Moral to this story: ~ R.I.P. "LobsterBoy a.k.a Mark LaFleur"~ Google that one.......so sad with a beautiful wife, great kids he was honing to be race-car/boat drivers too. His death probably saved their lives.
      And these are real cases of what sleep apnea can do. I think I'm going to mail order a full-blown Bi/Pap machine on-line and they take care of the script without a sleep study.

    for most people with sleep apnea, the best solution is to lose weight 🙂

    • @Anxxsa
      @Anxxsa 5 лет назад

      Wrong. Most patient diagnosed with osa have gained weight beacuse of this illness. And if you dont sleep well you have no chance to lose weight.

    • @soymoder
      @soymoder 5 лет назад +1

      Anxxsa Being overweight also makes it harder to exercise, but “calories in, calories out” is a simple equation. Make whatever excuse you want, a diagnosis does not mean, “you were born with this and it will never go away.” Just like how you can eat yourself into Type 2 Diabetes. The best treatment for complications related to weight gain is unsurprisingly weight loss. And anyone who cites the difficulties of being overweight as the *reason* for being overweight is trying to convince themself that they are not responsible for their body.

    • @Anxxsa
      @Anxxsa 5 лет назад

      Every doctor we've seen (after diagnosed with osa) said it is not a big surprise my boyfriend gained weight in a very short time. What is more patients that have been asked mentioned the same issue. Gaining a huge amount of weight in a very short time. And doesn't matter how much they wanted to lose weight - tried several diets, went to work out - they didnt succeed. After a few month wearing the CPAP mask they could loose weight. Is it coinsidence you think? 'Cause am not.

    Something is wrong with the aging of the human body. So many new, bad developments even when you have been responsible and chosen to live eating healthy and exercising regularly. Out of the blue I now have sleep apnea. No fat neck, ideal weight. Going to start with nose stripes and mouth taping. Not getting surgery. Why does the body slowly turn on the owner as we age? Guess all the pollutants in our water, food, environment, and other life stresses catch up with what was once a properly functioning me.

      @Motivational - Day per Day It was odd, but I did fall asleep. The next day I received "Nose Vents" And I've been using those with much less discomfort. The guard doesn't hurt, but it's big. The vents I ordered are super soft and I ordered 12 large for about 15 dollars. You feel a bit of pressure outwards in your nostrils. But I put them in during a movie and forgot about them. Just as a trial run. And I've been using them each night. The guard will be a backup if needed.

      @@DawnKing The one ex I lived with snored so bad I would put ear plugs in my ear every night because he snored so bad. Then I got a glimpse of how other guys would feel sleeping next to me. I figure hey he snore too so we would be good. Nope .. I would beg him to let me go to sleep first. Even when he did he would wake me up with his snoring. Pronounced Van-Knee-uh finding someone who’s really understanding of your snoring is pretty difficult. I remember one time, I spent the night at my then gf place and she had work in the morning. She’s a light sleeper too. She ended up sleeping on the couch and woke up in the middle of the night pretty upset. She said she couldn’t sleep the whole night and that was pretty how our relationship started going downhill. Sometimes I think we don’t have any hope

      @@DawnKing 😔😔. I feel you.. everytime that one guy came over that ended up on the couch I use to catch myself falling asleep and actually hearing myself snoring then I would wake up feeling embarrassed . The moral of the story I always felt tired and NEVER got the proper sleep when he was around. But guess what? Every time he fell asleep he would snore. I never woke him up and told him he's to loud , but he would leave me and go sleep on the couch. One time he told me "dont sleep on me you snore too much" 😢. I could never cuddle with him when we were goin to sleep. So. I've decided to buy the device that pulls your tongue forward while your sleep. That mfkr cost me $82 bucks. It better work 😡.. So when I get it I will record myself while I'm sleep. Like I did before to see how bad I was.

      DooplisTheGhost Yes, actually. Specially if you're young and your body is still developing. You can search for effects on face anatomy of people who breath through their mouths and it can mess quite a bit of stuff

    One thing worth mentioning is that the mouthguard approach has a pretty low success rate. And depending on where you live, it may or may not be covered by insurance. It's quite expensive without insurance.

    • @bischofb
      @bischofb 5 лет назад +5

      That's actually completely wrong. Medical studies show that the oral appliance is very close to being as effective as cpap. When taking into consideration that many people with a cpap machine stop using it and people with the oral appliance stick with it, then it is considered more effective.
