I love Tony’s plea for these companies to get a clue about what people actually want. He’s so right, they’re just sinking themselves! People love taking pictures more than ever, but these companies don’t make a great case for why you need their cameras to do that.
I have to say that I don't think many kids will buy $4000 camera's to shoot some video. This is professional equipment. Further, camera's produce an insane amount of data. How long would it actually take to transfer a half hour video with 6K RAW video footage over Wifi to your phone?
@@annoholics I didn’t have a 4,000 camera in mind when I made my comment. But I do think a pro-sumer range 1500-2000 camera with a smartphone like interface and a retro body would be so FUN to use. Like Tony said, simplify the shooting experience with computational photography and ai features and I think you have an appealing package that people would love to use. Your comment highlights the problem. Cameras are seen now as only tools for professionals. These companies need to try harder to reach normal people again and reclaim that market loss or they’re just not gonna make it long term.
@@-AtomsPhere- I think to some extend companies already do this. I think the Sony ZV-E1 is a good example of this. There is a white body, which is of course different then the traditional black and it has features that use AI calculations in order to e.g. keep somebody in the middle of the frame or adapt the aperture in order to let multiple people in focus in the frame. It also has a decent microphone in the camera that lets you record somewhat of good quality audio from the back and the front of the camera. I don't think however that these kind of features will very likely show up anytime soon in e.g. an FX camera because that is meant for a different group of customers. And like I said, some features are simply very hard to implement. If a professional wants an extreme amount of data in order to color grade everything then it will be hard at the same time to use something like Wifi to transfer that data. It is often a compromise. People want at the same time a simple intuitive UI but also want all the options and settings that you can think of. Good luck to find something that everybody likes. The people that really like uncomplicated videorecording already use a smartphone because that is something that they already own and have in their pocket anyway. So you need a camera that is just a little bit better but still can be used by somebody who is not a pro cinema camera man. And don't forget that the budget to work on a user friendly UI that e.g. Apple has is much higher then for camera's like the A7S line.
@@-AtomsPhere- and not just any computational photography, it MUST surpass Apple’s CP since those cameras have much bigger sensor and much bigger bodies to fit much more powerful chips than that in the iPhone. No excuse.
I think the camera companies are waiting for each other to move. They don't want to play the inventive move first. Too much to pay for and invent means larger R&D budgets. They also want to improve on each other's current work. Companies like DJI, Insta360, Apple, Google, and Samsung all focus on Consumer products where specific errors and standards are acceptable and can be replaced or experimented more. These companies have R&D budgets set for future quick changes. So they can adapt quickly. Sony Consumer Electronics is along with them. This is all my perception by the way. These companies need to make more consumer camera goods and experiment more with Ideas, but I feel they are more worried about surviving internal budgets, and doing more with less. Typical large business practices.
Yes! Your live show was so great. That kind of content was some of the most valuable to me for learning the art of photography and Lightroom best practices, and your live show was the best of it's kind imo.
"Stuff [Functions] we can actually use." YES, YES, a thousand times YEEEESSSSSSS. Not just 'communicate with my cell phone.' Communicate RELIABLY. Canon, Nikon, Sony. All the majors: First one to really, actually do this WILL reap the reward in sales.
Loved the live show. It’d be great to see again. Your point about DJI being the market leader in terms of “real world” innovation is absolutely spot on. So many good points in this episode. Cheers and Happy New Year to you and Chelsea
Tony and Chelsea, please bring the Live Photo review show back!! I watched all of them back in the day! I was so happy when you gave a good review to one of my photos when I was starting! thank you!!
I was waiting for the Nikon Z6III. Finally decided that I would just find a way to afford the Z8. I am very happy. I’m just an amateur/father and was so tired of mid grade cameras and lenses. Z8, 24-70 f2.8, and 70-200mm f/2.8. I have everything I need. Sure, it was expensive. But now I have a solid professional kit that I can shoot with for years instead of constantly selling a midgrade body, to purchase the next new midgrade body. All the while being not terribly happy with its midgrade functionality.
Very good decision. And because of the almost twice as many megapixels, you save yourself the 2x converter in the telephoto range and thus save more than 600 euros, which you can practically deduct from the price of the Z8 (compared to the Z6III)
For cameras with high speed shooting fps, we need ai software built in the camera to cull through the photos taken and tag with specific metadata tags. This way when we look through the photos we can filter through just a few photos rather than all. By default it should tag sharp subject photos. You should be able to select people with certain facial expressions, subjects clear from obstructions, intentionally blurry photos, eye position, body postures, animal postures, subject type and category, vehicle angle, and light position. The camera should detect what the subject in the photo is and give you best recommended photos based on your selection. This will save you a lot of time culling through photos.
To some degree AI can do that with proper prompts, but there is a lot of work for improvement for that. In terms of clicking a button, you may be able to do that in the future. AI can detect patterns in styles very well can editing in that particular style. If you train the AI with enough samples of your work that you like to see, it can edit photos with a similar style. In fact some AI tools can do that now. The training tools and modifications have to improve that. Eventually the AI should be imported into the camera so it can edit that photo as you take it. Through this will take way too much computing power and too much time until we have more energy efficient AI chipset designs. And I feel this is coming. Phones first though.
Been saying it for a long time now. Why can’t the camera companies make cameras that seamlessly work as well as smartphones. From wireless devices, previews, live view, airdrop, internal storage etc etc. catch up guys
As for the A7s iv not having a global shutter must be due to the worse low light performance that a global shutter comes with? From the comparison videos of the A9 iii against its competitors the A9 iii does struggle with grain and color accuracy at max iso in low light...
I don't agree with 24 MPs for sports. Jared Polin often mentions a sports photographer who uses the R5 because he can crop. I shoot sports as an amateur and I want a final pic at 20 MPs for large prints. With 26 MPs from the A6700, I'm often below 20 after cropping . About 30 is ideal for me .
I 100% agree about your rant about more smartphone/DJI-like features. YES LIVE SHOW. What, no HDR video? :( Your videos have been a pleasure for my HDR display. There's also some weird motion going on for me, like the video isn't playing at the right speed or it keeps speeding up and slowing down. I can't put my finger on it, it looks really weird. I tried other bitrates / resolutions but no difference. (3840x2160@60 on a 120Hz display) 0:14 "2023 losers: canon R3 II, nikon z6 III, Sony A7S IV". They're losers already? They're not out yet!
Dude, your closing comment was spot-on!! 🎯 DJI is kicking everyone’s ass and it’s because they actually listen. Sony is probably the only other company that listens…
Wow, a swappable/replaceable M.2 drive for storage would be amazing! SO much cheaper than CF-A/B or even SD UHS2. 2TB WD NVME drive on BB is $109. That's a Gen4 drive! I would LOVE to have that kind of storage!
The problem is "swappable". SSD's go bad just like all memory devices. If a card goes bad, the images can be recovered and the card replaced. What contingency do Hasselblad owners have if/when this happens?
@@puertadlm163 That's fine - just make sure the camera has a high-speed USB port to connect to your PC. Swappable just so you can increase the storage if you want.
Great idea, but, there may be an issue with heat, with M.2 heat sinks available, and used, in computer towers that already have fans blowing air around, a camera body may be too small to dissipate the heat.
I think it is the people. The people at Canon, Sony, Nikon, and other camera companies, have fixed mindsets and even worse the camera maker's ego. They look down on smartphone companies and outsiders like DJI. This has happened everywhere, like the Detroit Big 3, Nokia, and Intel. They won't change until it is too late.
snapbridge is amazing on my Z50 and Samsung phone...it's literally why I switched from my a6000 to Nikon. I need to be able to share photos quickly on trips or on holidays and everything on my a6000 needed to be edited before being shared plus there was no working app to do so anyhow. Nikon's jpegs are mostly great and snapbridge allows me to get them onto my phone quickly and share with family :) So all that to say, Tony, I agree that consumer cameras need to have that feature. I also have pretty much stayed with apsc b/c of on-board flash. I don't care if it's not that great of a flash, b/c when i need fill flash, i need flash and I'm not going to carry around an external flash b/c that's too big & heavy for just someone who needs it once in awhile for a family photo at sunset or in bad indoor lighting at the holidays.
Good ideas Tony especially with wireless connectivity for offloading images in real-time. Like the internal memory plus memory card idea. You forgot anti theft tech ie PIN number or finger print lock opening. Glass is more tricky to protect but could be software crippled by matching to named cameras only, unless unlocked by the owner, so less sellable for opportunistic thieves
Imagine they make you do use an authentication app everytime you power on your camera 😂. I think if they did something security wise i could see it using nfc or Bluetooth to recognize your cell phone near it. Like my Apple Watch stays unlocked as long as it’s near my iPhone.
The other bit of anti-theft tech people might want is encryption for the image files on the card. Make then unusable to anyone who doesn't know the passphrase or have the keyfile. Seems like something a lot of journalists might want, as well as clients who get boudoir photos taken not for publications.Or just people who document their lives and don't want a thief or someone who "borrows" their camera to be able to scroll through it.
Really waiting for the Nimon Z6iii currently using Nikon Zfc and it has better picture quality and colors then my old Canon 1dx ii and Sony a7Miii and Miv and Canon R6, i was shocked and surprised by seeing this kind of result as in my film school where is used to go my teachers and other students had these caneras and we compared it and that was the result which blowed everybody's mind as i was the only one with a crop sensor camera and i had the best picture colors with same lenses 50mm 1.8 which was was ysed by everyone at the same settings.
The best cameras out there now I've used are the Canon R6 II and the Nikon Zf! It turns out theyre very fun, easy to use, and don't get in your way! Pair that with good lenses and you can do anything!
Tony, you are speaking gold. Those Japanese camera manufacturers are ignoring what we really want in their $1000s cameras. I don’t fathom their logic to continue producing cave age tech. Their huge camera bodies could fit a much powerful chip than that found in the iPhone for blending 10s of exposures in a split second and produce a single RAW with insane DR. But instead they want us to rely on cave age methods like bracketing and using hard graduated filters. So sick of all the Japanese camera manufacturers. The day Apple produces a dedicated professional camera, I’m signing up right away.
Apple camera? Minimum $20,000. Apple lenses require Apple Adapter, sold separately. All other lenses incompatible. Internal storage only, not expandable. Requires internet connection and Apple Photography monthly plan.
Yet people keep buying them. The sales speak louder than words. If people stop buying, these companies will notice and adapt or die. Don't buy their new cameras until they give you what you really are asking for. Otherwise they will keep milking money from consumers for micro improvements.
@@Bladeclaw00100 agreed. they’re operating within a 5% market share. It only takes Apple or Google to develop a full frame professional smart camera to reap the remaining 5% and end those companies, just as the iPhone ended the p&s.
What I really want is to be able to shoot video with the whole sensor, and not restricted to the cropped 16:9 aspect ratio. It would be great for social media video jobs, especially when the clients want their videos to be available for all different kinds of social platforms.
Yea the Panasonic has open gate capability to shoot vertical and horizontal aspects at once. Sony has some cameras where they have 16:9 sensors and use the whole sensor for videos. It also reduces size and give more space for better sensor stabilization.
I did enjoy the live show when you were doing it. I disagree that the Z6 is a consumer camera. It certainly will appeal to enthusiast consumers, but a Z6/R6/A7, even a Z5, does everything many pros need. I shoot real estate, I don't want 50MP files for an MLS shoot, or vertical grip, or 120 frames per second. I don't want the camera making all the decisions for me like a smartphone either.
Currently in Australia Nikon is offering double the trade in value. In the ad the example used is a D810 getting $1400. I bought mine last year for $1200. So Nikon is worried that D810 owners aren’t going to upgrade to a Z8 but instead go with Sony. Time will tell how that all pans out. I think it was a missed opportunity that the FTZ adaptor couldn’t auto focus with AF-D lens.
Nikon seriously underestimated the F glass user base. If I can't AF on a Z body then I may as well switch to a body system that accommodates F in manual and has a huge native and third party lens menu... that's Sony. Nikon is circling the drain. At some point shareholders will demand profitability and that means the consumer division is kaput. Incoming recession in 2024 might be the catalyst.
You are spot on! Except the 6k/8k thing, i really live that when doing music educational content. Cropping in on the fretboard of my guitar in post was a game changer for me ;)
The live show would be good even if a monthly event. As for future camera models I totally agree with your last comments on DJI and from that company will be the real threat , capturing images and managing the after processes at low cost compared to the established brands . I think that bang for buck will be a huge advantage for DJI as they innovate into a growing audience.
Amen brother! The camera companies are going to have to serve a younger market if they going to survive in a consumer market. Unfortunately the people running these companies are even older than you and believe in incremental improvement rather than re-invention. Eventually they'll only serve the professional markets and cede the consumer field to phone makers and other companies like DJI.
Break the algorithm! Bring back the live channel! I was loving seeing how many awkward references I could get! (especially when I gave up on a Wanderlust visit... I'm still up for a Minnesota trip if you are)
Your live show each week was part of my weekly schedule. I might not get to it until the weekend but I always watched. Bring it back! Even if it’s just 3 a month, bring it back.
I concur with just about everything you said. It would be nice for the best next improvement though is make your camera work as smoothly as it your cell phone. It would be nice just to tell my camera the function I want. The technology is there why not. 🤔
The lens rental matrix could also mean that companies like Fuji, OM systems provide affordable kits and lenses leading to less rentals. Moreover, this could also represent that most of the lenses that are rented serve a very specific niche and therefore people don’t consider buying them. Thoughts??
100% agree with Tony. Who cares of more frame, more MPixel, … while we still have not a camera connected like our phone. Make camera with Android or Apple build in with Apps like LR build in, WhatsApp, Instagram, RUclips, … . Make me able to edit easily on the go, allow me on travel to be able to remove the need of an iPad or a laptop to be able to sent pictures of the day to my family or to my followers. The camera market that will successfully be able to do that under 2k and under 1k will win the marker by far!!! (And while shooting Raw. To many camera app only transfert Jpeg).
i thought sony wouldn't release the a7s4 until 2025, the a7s3 is already very, very good, it can even replace the FX3 in some cases with a way better price, even though the FX3 is a cine line.
Really hope DJI launches something in system cameras this year, it would be a big boost to the l-mount. They are lightyears ahead on the software side and already have a big user base.
Tony, internal storage is nice to have but you have to remember that it breaks the same way that SD cards break. So internal nvme + 1 sd card slot is not a viable option if the internal one is not replaceable.
I've been using SSDs for years in computers without a single failure - I dump drives when they're too small to be relevant today. You might as well ask for user-replaceable shutters, as they too fail sometimes.
@HappyHubris Just because that is your personal experience (which is the same as mine actually) that doesn't disprove the actual science. In the best case, there's a rating of TBW (terabytes written) for each NAND chip of an SSD, and that is for all intents and purposes its maximum usable life (if it doesn't fail from another cause earlier). You might not even come close to it while using your general purpose PC but especially in a camera scenario in which you constantly produce and delete huge files this is a big concern. I'm not against internal storage but I'm absolutely certain that if it is implemented it is going to be in the worst way possible (not user repleacable, camera OS stored on it making the camera useless after it inevitably fails from usage or old age, exorbitant, apple-like pricing on getting a camera with a larger SSD, removal of redundant SD card slots)
@@5dful you could implement an interface that allows hot plugging, like with SSD->Thunderbolt or SSD->USB, in case the very rare failures hit. To be fair, I'm thinking like a stills guy who uses at most a few hundred GB on a trip. But I thought video users already plugged in external SSDs anyways.
@@HappyHubris You could but they're not going to. They are just gonna implement is as non swappable internal storage. Think like the manufacturer who only cares about profit. Don't get me wrong, internal storage is good as there are times where I wish I had it (forgot/filled SD card) but would not like it to replace any redundancy or card slots.
Tony, you are right on .... the minimum has been met by ALL the major brands. Now it the time to look at differentiation, not leapfrogging with specs we don't need. Security - why can't my shutter button know I own my camera and work for ME instead of a thief? Rear screens - I WANT to be able to see it in broad daylight - certainly a device with a sensor can adjust the screen brightness based on the environment!?! How about some simple voice option to tell me what the shutter speed, aperture, and iso is? Easily turned on and off, of course. Then I can reclaim some of my viewfinder real estate for photos. One thing you didn't mention, unless I missed it, was how is the DX format doing? M43 is losing but how about DX vs FF?? Love your year in review....!
I have used Nikon equipment for decades and love the output. I do have concerns about Nikon's future existence. They are struggling to maintain third place and must suffer from money to do research and development. What I have noticed is the difference in Canon advertising versus Nikon. Canon seems to have more 'everyday' advertising that speaks to the average person. They also seem to have more frequent sales or promotions through camera stores, thus catching more consumers who are moving into camera systems from their phones. Nikon on the other hand seem to advertise less frequently, and to an 'older'? or more 'professional' audience. Their advertising just comes across as a bit more aloof and does not speak to the average person. Nikon may need a major shakeup in their administration. They're likely not catching many 'new' consumers versus the other major brands.
Jim, yes, the dramatic market share loss, as indicated by rental share loss, is concerning. Rentral trends indicate mostly professional usage trends. Nikon is obviously in a process of Pentaxifying itself (losing the pros, therefore keeping only their aging hobbyists, i.e. not winning new ones). 10-20 years later, they lose the hobbyists as well. The important (long-term profitable) new hobbyists regard the pros as an industry swarm intelligence. What the 'cool' pros are buying, is a 'cool' brand. What the pros avoid, is to be avoided. Now Nikon's strategical mistakes strike back on them: - premature entry into the mirrorless market as an underdog (technologically, e.g. AF evolution) - highly problematic lens portfolio strategy - suppressing a remedy potential of 3rd party offerings too much, by being too restrictive - energy spent on niche markets such as nostalgic elderly hobbyists, or hipsters, with retro cameras - a tech follower, not a tech leader, and not a tech innovator in the industry. Look how much the above points resemble Pentax' mistakes and position in the DSLR era. And we all witnessed the consequences.
I loved the live shows. I especially liked the critiques with 'guest stars'. I sent you some pictures and learned a lot from your suggestions. I also appreciate that your tone and community is more welcoming than some other photography-based critique channels. Keep up the good work.
did yall change the camera on this set recently? it looks super crispy! even went back to check older vids and hey werent this sharp. is it stil eos rp? update: heard you say r3s now later in vid nvm
Please please please bring back the live show. It doesn't have to be all about reviews of photos. My husband and I enjoy listening to you discuss photography and technology and just having fun. No pressure... just be who you are, share your knowledge to inspire us😎
regarding the new logo. i think of one of the pillars of your brand being unbiased reviews and being the only big camera/tech channel that doesn't take $ from camera or lens manufacturers. to me this is a huge deal and if more people understood why that was so cool it would make your channel even stronger. a "brand" is more than colors and font so when rebranding find a way to highlight and frame the good parts of your brand. the new logo doesn't mean that much to me but it looks nice.
I'm so with you with the wires! Why can't we just wireless connect to mics. It's incredibly frustrating messing about with additional gear and wires and more stuff with batteries that need charging and can fail. And simplicity of operation. I often have non-camera friends that film me and the only thing they can use is a Gopro. My GH5 was a disaster and even though the focus on my new a6700 is excellent they still can't deal with exposure or even changing modes. Intelligent features need to come otherwise smartphones will just get better and take more market share. I can't be bothered taking my a6700 out for anything other than filming for RUclips or when I go and do wildlife photography. There rest is just my phone. It's plenty good enough and always with me plus super easy to share images with friends and family or social media instantly.
In some ways the Zeiss ZX1 fulfills many of the usability requirements (Android, internal storage…), but it seems totally unsuccessful. The mainstream camera manufacturers should take those ideas and tech while making it more robust and price effective ! If I was the owner of sony I would radically invest in that direction to differentiate and creating a real USP. At some point computational photography will eat that hardware stuff ‚alive‘ Key question: why don‘t they ???? I am puzzled.
Yes, right. In Japan there‘s a historical emphasis on hardware or manufacturing as such (Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing)… software engineering doesn’t get as much respect as it should which is a big mistake, as sw makes hw really usable. So the odds are that in 20years from now we see sw companies and maybe two or three niche players (Leica?) winning. DJI, Apple will eat the Nikons and Canons. And only Sony may have the potential to fight back given its broad expertise.
@@TDCIYB77I agree. The Samsung attempt was premature and for Zeiss simply not their home turf. Today it should work. Look at what insta360, dji etc are pulling off right now. This could be the next ‚motorola moment‘ for the poor camera industry.
👏👏👏👏👏👏 I'm still waiting for the moment when DJI launch a "normal" FF mirrorless camera with the L mount, with all the support, great color science and great menus and UI that it's s known for. They could be the first to use an amoled screen instead of led one to be visible under sunlight too
I'm waiting for them to release a model that sits between the Pocket 3 and the Ronin 4D. A MFT size 18-120 electronic zoom lens on a gimbal, with the guts packed into an ergonomic handle. That would be a real category killer
Great call out to the big 3 about making things simpler. Adding new features for the sake of adding new features just increases complexity for the user, especially in the consumer cameras like the ZX6. It is obvious they are not giving any thought to workflow or how most people actually want to use their cameras.
Nikon is only complicated at the TopEnd but then with the Camera of the Year Z8 its meant to be an involved Multi use top of the Range machine .. I have a huge Learning curve having just upgraded from Z7 to Z8
I totaly agree with the screen aspect. The LCD screens on the back of our cameras have always sucked. Its too small and its hard to see in bright daylight our smartphones AMOLED screens have incredible colors and are extermly bright so why cant we have them in our cameras. Camera producers gotta stop with only focusing on the number chasing and give us better improved user experience.
The back LCD Screen really should be detachable, bright with built-in battery and wireless control, and swappable for different LCD aspect ratios such as 16:9, 7:5, 3:2, and others. Also the arm mechanism should be swappable for different tilt, flip, or tilt with flip arms. The best part is if you break it off you can easily replace the part.
Agree about camera companies need to look at cell phones, DJI etc. Considering what they do with a small sensor and lens compared to what is available in a camera it begs the question.
As for the video and photo transfer to your phone sony cameras can use wifi to sync to a remote ftp server, so a app on your phone can be used to host this ftp server (or better on the mac)which almost gives you instant backup. You can set it up on your nas and turn the camera on when coming home having it connect to wifi and just let it sync in the background.
I used to learn so much from watching your live shows, do bring them back please! Also, I was one of those people who went from Nikon DSLR to Sony mirrorless. The first Nikon mirrorless camera's weren't great. By the time the Z6 came out I had already spent money on my Sony camera and glass, and when I rented the Z6 it felt like a step backwards compared to my Sony.
Roughly 13 years ago when i started my hobby in photography, 15 of my family and friends also joined me in the hobby, after 5 years they all lost interest😂 and sold their gear, I’m the only one left who continued this passion..they just want to look like photographers but sucks in taking good photos and lack the skill to grow in this now fewer people are buying Dslr and hybrid cameras..many of my new friends that are heavy phone camera users always compliments my photos at parties and social gatherings..
It feels like a lot of tech development, from cameras to computers to software, is about 10% actual improvements and 90% stuff they added just to fluff the feature list.
EF and Nikon lenses can go on EVERYTHING just like PL. Besides the fancy b4 replacement video zoom lenses sony has, I dont see people needing mirrorless lenses at all.
I would like to see a 16bit fullframe w simple menus like Leica or hasselblad, at areasonable price, and a fokus system that works, each time I try to take a picture I need to position the freaking focus frame from one side to the other. Never ready… Great video, happy new year
Tony, if you only tried eye-control on the R3 three times, I dont think you can assess if it sucks. It's definitely an approach that takes some adjustment time.
The crappy screens on cameras bug me for years. I mostly shoot my old A7r3 and I'm in the market for an new camera for years. But until they don't fix the sceen problem or my camera dies I bypass all the new models.
I have been amazed that for years now these major camera manufacturers have been so slow to adapt integrating smarter software into their cameras. The proof is in the phone cameras. Look how great they can make photos look with much inferior sensors and lenses all through software. Give us more options produce a raw file unedited but give us smarter jpgs.
God i hope sony is listening, i want a A7S4 with all the modern amenities of a smart phone. man that internal mic receiver is an amazing idea that i never even thought of. GREAT IDEA TONY!
Loved the live show. Even if you have to do it less, was still interesting to see the critiques of our own pictures. Maybe once a month, or at least one a quarter.
The photo reviews on the live show just did so much to improve my skills (and I don't think I'm alone) in the early phase of my photography. It was also so neat to see everybody contributing their stuff, and the comments left under the video afterwards. But, I know it's a lot of work for you. Yes, I would like to see a return of the live show, but completely understand if you don't!
And I was hoping to see something like a g7 ii (small with IBIS and PDAF) at the end of the leaked camera list….come on Panasonic you can do it. Won’t bump up rentals, but maybe sales where it really counts. Tony, wishing both you and Chelsea a wonderful 2024!
Panasonic can definitely do that. G series has a smaller sensor which means they can add zoom lenses that can be much lighter and smaller than the competition with new servo motors perfect for videos. Mix that with their new PDAF, new quality mic placements, their awesome sensor stabilizer, and a low price, they have a great product that stands apart from what all the other cameras are doing. It can be small, easy to use, lightweight, while having long zoom range, and good Image quality all at the same time. Full frame cameras can't do that. Except perhaps Fuji.

I was so happy when you gave a good review to one of my photos when I was starting! thank you!!
miss that live show, love you both! You produce the best photography related content online!
You wont regret it The Z8 >> camera of the Year 2023 and the Z 24-70 and Z 70-200 are best ever made by any Brand
Very good decision. And because of the almost twice as many megapixels, you save yourself the 2x converter in the telephoto range and thus save more than 600 euros, which you can practically deduct from the price of the Z8 (compared to the Z6III)
Now all you have to do is struggle with the temptation to buy the Z8ii, then the iii... and so on , lol.
Yes and it should edit/grade my photos too. I'm sick of working. I just want to push a button and collect checks!
I have a Z6 mark I. Those rumored Z6 mark III specs are not enough for me.
Yes, bring back the live show!! Love y'all. Keep up the great work.
(3840x2160@60 on a 120Hz display)
0:14 "2023 losers: canon R3 II, nikon z6 III, Sony A7S IV". They're losers already? They're not out yet!
Dude, your closing comment was spot-on!! 🎯 DJI is kicking everyone’s ass and it’s because they actually listen. Sony is probably the only other company that listens…
Sony 100% does not listen.
Wow, a swappable/replaceable M.2 drive for storage would be amazing! SO much cheaper than CF-A/B or even SD UHS2. 2TB WD NVME drive on BB is $109. That's a Gen4 drive! I would LOVE to have that kind of storage!
I wouldn’t hold your breath. NVME by nature isn’t meant to be pulled out of one system and put into another.
@@jiml989 That's why I said "swappable" or something - removable.
5:10 I might provide a tiny counterargument that many people are renting EF lenses to adapt to their RF camera too
Yes Sony please, wireless audio when shooting video, why do we need cable head set, just to check the audio,,please add it.
snapbridge is amazing on my Z50 and Samsung phone...it's literally why I switched from my a6000 to Nikon.
Better yet, built in tracking function that can be paired with phone or pc. A lot of device have this function now. Why not expensive ass camera?
@@Kevon420 You are not wrong.
@@jordanbabcock9349 they could make it a fixed zoom lens. Just as with Apple products, it won’t be for everyone.
Panasonic: open gate.
Yea the Panasonic has open gate capability to shoot vertical and horizontal aspects at once. Sony has some cameras where they have 16:9 sensors and use the whole sensor for videos. It also reduces size and give more space for better sensor stabilization.
Great suggestions Tony. These camera companies are grossly out of touch.
Love the live show.
Thanks for all the work you do to provide camera info
Wireless file transfer is possible with Fuji Tony. Please mention it.
All of these cameras have some wireless file transfer capability, but my point is the all absolutely suck. They're slow, clumsy and unreliable.
I like the idea of internal mic receiver. Sony has the tech already, would be cool if Canon, Nikon or Panasonic partnered with Rode to do it.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Excellent post Tony ☄️🔥🔥. Great wishlist thoughts. HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎉🎊🎇🎆🧨🎈✨️
I'm all for bringing back the live show. It was always great fun watching you guys drink beers while reviewing photos! fun and informative.
The live show was fantastic so yes please bring it back
The lens rental matrix could also mean that companies like Fuji, OM systems provide affordable kits and lenses leading to less rentals.
Yes DJI and Insta360. Both are bringing amazing innovation and need to compete in this space.
You are spot on with DJI.
Would love to see the live show!!
Nikon mirrorless glass is pulling firmly ahead of Canon and Sony.
You are reading way too much into Lens rental stuff. They are still in third place market share wise. They are not going anywhere
I think their retro marketing for the ZF was a good start though. They felt “hip” for the first time in a decade.
Now Nikon's strategical mistakes strike back on them:
- premature entry into the mirrorless market as an underdog (technologically, e.g. AF evolution)
- highly problematic lens portfolio strategy
- suppressing a remedy potential of 3rd party offerings too much, by being too restrictive
- energy spent on niche markets such as nostalgic elderly hobbyists, or hipsters, with retro cameras
- a tech follower, not a tech leader, and not a tech innovator in the industry.
Look how much the above points resemble Pentax' mistakes and position in the DSLR era. And we all witnessed the consequences.
Anti theft features are never gonna come :(
I loved the live shows.
Please bring back the live show. It taught me so much about photography and gave me inspiration for my own work.
Yes please! Bring back more drunk Tony and Chelsea photo reviews..! Safely of course
Please please please bring back the live show. It doesn't have to be all about reviews of photos. My husband and I enjoy listening to you discuss photography and technology and just having fun. No pressure... just be who you are, share your knowledge to inspire us😎
Please, please, please bring back the live show. It was the main reason why I subscribed to your channel in the first place.
Yes please. I learned so much from the live show and would love for it to return!
YES! Bring back the live show!! I miss that show and looked forward to it every week.
regarding the new logo. i think of one of the pillars of your brand being unbiased reviews and being the only big camera/tech channel that doesn't take $ from camera or lens manufacturers. to me this is a huge deal and if more people understood why that was so cool it would make your channel even stronger. a "brand" is more than colors and font so when rebranding find a way to highlight and frame the good parts of your brand. the new logo doesn't mean that much to me but it looks nice.
Yes, it's time to bring the show back. Thanks you!
I love that😂 12:31
The live show would be great!
At some point computational photography will eat that hardware stuff ‚alive‘
Key question: why don‘t they ???? I am puzzled.
Yes, right. In Japan there‘s a historical emphasis on hardware or manufacturing as such (Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing)…
software engineering doesn’t get as much respect as it should which is a big mistake, as sw makes hw really usable.
Loved the rebranding, happy for that. And the "please make" features very nice.
👏👏👏👏👏👏
I'm still waiting for the moment when DJI launch a "normal" FF mirrorless camera with the L mount, with all the support, great color science and great menus and UI that it's s known for.
If everything is detachable swappable and replaceable, that would be awesome. You should be able to configure your build as you would a computer.
I'm afraid the ZX6 is a motorcycle.
@@Kevon420
Yeah, but it only has one frame and demands plenty of manual focus, but it does have a grip for both hands and a lot more processing power.
@@Kevon420 you are so right. Meant the Z6
Right on with the comments. I would basically like a smartphone with lenses that I can choose and change.
Agree about camera companies need to look at cell phones, DJI etc. Considering what they do with a small sensor and lens compared to what is available in a camera it begs the question.
Tony, you are spot with your "please" list. Well done. They should contract you as consultant.
Yes to the live show!!!
Hi Tony, in your leaked cameras topic you forgot to speak about the Pentax k4 ... ?
Thanks so much, extremely informative!
Live show was great - yes please! Really helps with the sense of community. Even better if you can get some guests in
Please bring back the live show!!
Your new logo is screaming out loud "Nivea cream!" 😮😂😂🤣
Shouldn't it be Chelsea and Tony? CAT!
YES please bring back the live show!!
Great video. Out of curiosity, you’d been using 3 canon RPs at 1080p for a few years. What inspired the change to not only 4K, but 6k oversampled 4K?
We need more people like you guys to change things. Thanks
Fantastic, business analysis, Tony. I hope the camera manufacturers are listening to you.
Hold on, doesn’t the Z6ii have the CFX B + SD already?! What am i missing?
So does latest camera file after processing print any better the a top of the line dslr like a 1Ds mk2 or D5. Nope.
