- Our YZ125 needed some repair after sucking some dirt and some questionable gas. Vertex Piston and Millennium fixed up the parts like new. While we were at it, we added a few mod parts to give us a bit more grunt in the motor. Watch the video to see David Pingree shred on the freshly tuned bike, and see below for all the parts used.

This makes me want to go out and buy a 125, love that sound!!
I'm a four stroke guy but I can respect what those guys said about two strokes, they started the sport of motorcross.
Had some of my best days on a 125....and still to this day Miss IT!!! 2strokes LIVE LONG!

Just got one this spring, the guy before me babied it, he put on, all power enhancing parts that are on your bike except for the fatty pipe. This bike ROCKS for someone tall enough for a 250 and strong enough for about a tt-r 125. and yeah that was my old bike.
this is honestly more of a sound test. gotta love 2 strokes
those things are so god damn loud with the shorty exhaust, its fucking amazing

hey just got the same problem with my 05 yz. detenation damage do to a lean mixture and low octane gas, I sent to millennium 260$ because they gotta deck and weld the cylinder. Good deal although I am using a wiesco piston from rocky mountain for 90$, millennium wanted 120$. Just kinda cool to see this video with my bike with the same problem right in a weeks accuracy, thanks for th post

Your exactly right. I put my boy on a 250 off a supermini. Now we are getting the 125. He does ok on the 250 but its too heavy he has much more confidence on a bike he can sling around. The 250 is easier to ride but we going to the 125 for confidence and lets face it riding a 2 stroke makes you a better rider when you go over to 4 strokes.

Fill the gap between an 85 and a 250f? This bike with a pipe and reeds could almost beat a 250f.
im 13 5,4 and i am tip toed on 125/250/some 450's and if your not comfortable on it adjust the forks and shocks it will lower it a little
That must be a high compression piston, sounds like a works bike!

Its funny I have a 08 CRF250r that I love and wanted to buy another bike for my buddys to ride so I went looking for a CR125 to buy and bought a 02 cr125 for only 500 bucks and its a ripper ..Kid needed money so bad his PG&E was off and he was going to get kicked out so there is for sure good deals .. Great bikes for sure .. Easy to fix also .
if you set the suspension stings lowerd a little bit you would be fine..the bike can be adjusted to fit the rider.
That yz sounds good probably gonna put that fmf pipe kit on my yz 125
I have a kx100 right now and i am going to move up pretty soon so i think a yz125 would be very good for me and they sound sound so sick to me dpending on how you mantain your bike!!!!

This is very true my dad wouldn't let me get a 250 unless I rode a 125 for a whole year
oath. I blew up my 250 and it cost about 3-4grand (AUS) and I got a rebuild for my ktm 144 and it was like just below 2grand (AUS).
Huge difference for a rebuild

Its hard to put a number on it, but percentage wise a two stroke is about 20 to 30 percent cheaper over the life time of the machine than a modern four stroke.

im 5.4 5.5 and im fine on it . u can lower the shocks and carve the seat tho if ur smaller.

you would be fine. But im 5'6 and 155 and ride a cr85. Its really good size for me.
@Karl Liebner Turbine core 2 is the way to go!
the motor will generally become noisy and produce a "knocking" sound. itll produce more smoke due to burning more oil. loss of compression and power loss.

i wanted a 250f so bad and i finally got one but now i miss my 2 stroke
Just a question,,,does Yamaha still do R&D on their 2-stroke line, or are they just doing cosmetic and frame changes? At one point I thought I had heard they were not really working to develop the motor anymore.
KTM seems to be carrying on the flame for the tiddlers nicely though.

it doesn't really matter how tall you are people when your riding your feet aren't on the ground anyway! also if you aren't sure you will fit the bike anyway go to a dealer and sit on the bike and see for yourself
two strokes are great bikes for people not lookin to fork over loads of money into the sport... and also people who dont want to fork over loads of money for parts and labor because a four stroke is not easy to rebuild
Im 13 myself i started with a kx 80 first good first bike but now i moved up too a 125 yz because i learnt fast try the 80 first.
Yamaha actually makes the most reliable bikes out there just read any thread on the net.
Whats better for 125's.. Turbine core 2 spark arrestor, power core 2, titanium core 2, or shorty?

@motocross150r Graphics will add 5hp, cutting your plastics fmx style another 10, thats 15 total, you do that and your 125 will hang with the 450f's bro!!!
They had those made by DecalWorks. Can't buy them from anywhere....

because there bad ass. nd doing that will in turn make other people buy their seals and when they get newer bike buy selas from them too
what the best gas to use? and what is bes the fuel to mixer ratio to where it runs good but dosent smoke, because i use what it says on the mixer bottle but my bike smokes a lot.
iyve road all these bikes from an 85cc to a 450f and iyd say the best 1 for me is the 450f

you pretty much need to run high octane with any dirtbike. where i live, thats the highest octane pump gas i can buy. and i was fine with it.

I have a Millennium 285cc Cylinder on my YZ250. Thing about pulls my arms off... lol
I think Suzuki, Kawi, and Honda need to look at how many kids run 125's in the school boy classes all around the world, that enough should convince them to make 125's and maybe 250's again.
