Shurr yup it’s fun, gonna be selling it soon and hopefully buy a rmz250 or a crf250 as i wanna ride track a lot more, have fun on those DTs, reliable bikes
So I recently got rid of my rt100 which over time became way too small for me, and I was wondering what I should get next. I knew I wanted to stay with a 2 stroke and I also knew I would like to stay with a Yamaha. I had mostly narrowed it down to the yz125 and yz250, and this video helped me make my mind about what I most likely will want to get. I think the 250 would suite my needs perfectly as a good trail bike that I can have fun and learn on.
125s are almost an art form now days, especially with so many that mostly ride four strokes. Back when ktm came out w the hydraulic clutch I thought it was mainly because of the clutch work it takes to keep a 125 on the pipe. If you can use the clutch and pick your gears right there right there w the speed of any other bike but keeping one pinned through corners a gear lower than you need to be in making noise is not keeping it on the pipe and is slowing you down. This is more for mx riding but take every turn a gear higher than before. Keep it pinned and feather the clutch. You won't have to do this but jus a moment and when you can let out all the way on the clutch w it in good power hit the clutch and grab another gear, and don't let off the throttle when shifting. 125s shine when you keep them pinned. You won't hurt it . You will have so much more speed and be a gear almost two gears ahead of the ones I see now that just keeping it screaming in a gear or so lower is doing anything. In a hare scramble or woods riding I wouldn't hammer it like this the whole time because you don't have that many corners like a mx track that will hold you dropping in hard for the berm or rut to catch you and you will wear yourself down quick, especially w gloves grips and seat wet w mud usually and you and the bike now heavier.
I'm just learning to ride. How do you feather the clutch? Everytime you employ the clutch do you have to press it to full engagement first, or do you also do micro-engagements?
The real answer... buy both. I sold my 125 and bought a 250 but a big part of me misses having a 125. They are just different riding experiences. I would like to have the option to ride either or. I gotta get another 125
I'll be honest, I was scrolling through youtube and saw the thumbnail and thought this would be another casual rider reviewing two bikes. Then I saw the name. BeRad. Why does that sound so familiar? After awhile it finally came to me. I remember watching a Megs Braap video years ago with you in it. If I recall correctly you were ripping in that one. Now I've finished this video and have gone from thinking this will be lame to realizing that my riding skills are horrible lol Very knowledgeable and impressive review. New sub.
I have an rm125 and an rmz450. I weigh 220lbs and can say that 125s have plenty of power. I can send the 125 almost as far as the 450. you just have to keep it revved up and try to carry speed through turns. both fun bikes. an awesome combination to have at the track
Great video! I’m on a TE300 right now. I plan on getting the 125x soon. I’ve ridden 125’s most of my 20 years of dirt bike riding and agree with everything you said.
I have a 2023 yz125x and this thing kicks like a mule! It’s perfect on trails and track. I actually downsized from a KTM 350 cuz of the weight and too much power. Now the 125 is perfect!!
I like your approach to riding bud! Ride for yourself and have the most fun as possible! I have and had the exact approach every time I swung my leg over a bike. Any bike! Even when I road raced professionally. And I strongly feel, that’s why I won lots of my races. Subscribed and thanks for the video!
Thank you professor. I've been going back and forth between yz125x (hero factor) or yz250x easy factor. Your comparison was very informative. I will be buying the yz250x .
Thanks man, I’m finally back into riding and restoring my old 2 strokes. Ive been between the cr125 I have or the cr250. I think the 250 is getting done first because I’m a little over 200lbs and love 250s. I do want the 125 for the throwing around type riding and dial in my riding. The 125 will have to wait I suppose. Thank you
220lbs at 41yrs old C class, and I Love my 125X,went to a 51t rear and it carries me around very well, love how light and super fun it is. I also own a 250fx and I always see myself riding the 125x more. Great vid man👊🏽😎
@@BaKeDCrAcKer well at 49t dont have the power to pull out of turns in the woods would have to clutch a lot, with the 51t just drop a gear and blip a lil the clutch and you are on it,now for faster flowee trails I say 49t would be awesone. But again I am lil old and heavy and a beginner rider maybe down the road Ill have more momentum to be able to pull 49t on the woods without clutching too much👊🏽😎
Thumbgas I run a 13-49 on my beta. I find it gives me a lot more torque in the lower to mid range but loses top speed. I love that setup it lets me power wheelie in 3rd.
I had the 36mm Lectron on my KTM 200 and went down to a 30mm Lectron since I'm mostly just doing slow speed technical riding. I'd bet the 30mm on the YZ125 would be amazing!
Thank you for this video. You have just confirmed what I was already thinking. I have been riding my CR500 and my RM250 in the sand for years not and want to develop the type of riding skills you show here. So I've been thinking about getting a YZ125 and this video has helped confirm this for me.
Ok here is my big deliema, used to ride yz80, kx80 big wheel and a yz125 in 90s. Have not touched a bike in 20 years and 40 just put a depo on a yz125 but I am 5 foot 9 and up to 225lbs as gained weight I do still have the option to get a 2021 yz250x. I do intend on dropping below 200 within the next couple months as well.
I've got a yz 125 as well as a 250f and I suggest the 125 if you are somewhat decently skilled and 13-17 and looking to ride on your local track, endurance tracks and mountains. And if you want to have fun and mess around its perfect for you
Just subbed. You're an awesome rider dude. I just bought a 2019 yz250x. I put one hr on it. It's amazing. Definitely the best bike I've had to date. I can only hope to progress to be a tenth as good as you are on it! Are you the same Be Rad from megsbraaps channel back in the day?
Nice video! Does the 125X use a 2 ring piston like the 250X does? I've found over many decades that 2 ring piston 2 strokes seem last many more hours. What oil and ratio do you use?
One thing is certain, either will be cheaper and easier to fix then anything orange....ESPECIALLY if its got TPi in its nomenclature. Not a KTM hater, matter of fact I love my 350 but somethings just don't mix with mud and water when you're 20 miles deep in the woods from the nearest road.
Tm racing 125. But id never recommend that to a beginner rider its a machine left for the A class. Yz125 is the best choice for beginners who want an 125 2t
i geared my yz125 down as far as i could, i think it was like 12/51 or 52 maybe more stock was 13/48, really helped with the lugging/low end power, never had a need to go 70 mph or more anyway and now i can get up technical hills out of the power band under half throttle without stalling but still have plenty of pull
I LOVE my 1998 CR125 but my 2005 CRF450R sure makes climbing sandy hills in Florida effortless. Both are awesome. Amazing power and weight difference though.
I’m riding a RT100 right now, and a CRF100… middle 40s riding with younger kids and I’m ready for something bigger but don’t need faster per se. mostly in 2nd or 3rd gear in trails and fields. I’m drawn to the yz125x cause they look great, taller height (I’m 5’11), and it’s a 2 stroke!!! My son just moved up to the RT100 so time to upgrade. Any pros/cons for me to consider? Don’t really want a CRF250F, Yamaha WR250F looks like an option… ahh decisions
Dude im struggling right now on what bike to pick and ive been riding my whole life. Im 150 lb geared up and ride mostly sand single track. Or grommer local tracks. But i want to go back to dune riding and remembering the 125 not really doing it well in the dunes. But i have never used all the power on a 250 on a track and always have to play it safe and conservative. So yeah im in a weird place
Did you sell the 250x and go just with the 125x? I just bought the 21 125x and stoked on this bike. My goal is get better / technique and I’m 160lbs so I feel like it’s a good fit. Now - parts.... :) How do you like the sxs skid plate? Also - you bashed your rad. Would you recommend rad guards? I’m looking at the enduro engineering rad guards... thoughts? Options? And lectron vs other options.. hmmm So many mixed reviews on the lectron... it’s a lot of cash for a hope and prayer that I experience the desired improvements and no flat spots or throttle response bogging. Given the whole idea is install, set up, never worry about it again... can you give a no bs assessment? I ride at 4000 to 6000 ft elevations +/- Dirt n iron just did a 125x with Keihin and STIC metering block... and they rave about that. 🤔 Awesome content - great riding - cheers!!

Keep it short and simple and say, "get them both like I did". Nice skills.
My favorite bike i've ever had was my YZ125 it was a Jason Lawrance replica, with Athena head and piston, and Hot rod crank, and it was Bad Ass!!! the Interweb claims the 250 only does 65 MPH??What???
my 125 would do 90, According to the Jeep rite by my side Clocking me!
Thats impossible! Jeeps cant go past 80!
@@evanspader6762 LOL.... this one went pretty good! but yeah my favorite bike!
the Interweb tells us a 250 will do 60MPH..
WHAT!??? NO WAY!
lonny wells i agree. I have a yammy blaster they say top speed is like 30 i beg to differ
@@evanspader6762 LOL....he clocked me at 97, and at that point only the Banshee would slowly walk past me, at just over 100 MPH!
@@evanspader6762 that's what we thought.......LOL! but not the case! and i would even smoke him , all the way through 5th gear, then he caught up, my bike would go just as fast as you could shift it, through all 6!
You ride at a level that very impressive to me.
I'm so happy I found this video clearly the 250 is for me because I'm a heavy person and I like low end torque so I'm happy you showed me the way
Great video. Would love to hear how the 125 improved with the high compression head, rad valve and carb upgrades vs stock!
Growing up I had a 92' CR125 and I miss it everyday. Was such a blast the rip through the woods. After watching you literally carry the yz125x out of the store I've been wanting one again haha.
Fast, informative and to the point. Solid.
Is that an 18" rim on the 125?
Edit: just discovered yamaha make a enduro 125 lol. That's bizarre
Here in europe youcan even find some "enduro" 50cc bikes
I have a dt125 2t, it rips
@@nissan_6828 i have the dtx bro, not too much power, but i dont really need more to have fun and pop wheelies with my friends :)
Everytime you employ the clutch do you have to press it to full engagement first, or do you also do micro-engagements?
youtube’s been hurting for a high quality but casual creator
The real answer... buy both.
I sold my 125 and bought a 250 but a big part of me misses having a 125. They are just different riding experiences. I would like to have the option to ride either or. I gotta get another 125
Agreed! Miss my YZ125 dearly, but as i get older the YZ250 suits my needs and I can ride longer. Brap On!
New sub.
I went yz125x and I have zero regrets. Awesome bike and builds skill really fast....or frustration.😂😂
Great video mate. The camera work, your skills as a rider and no hyped up dribble. Very well executed. Cheers from 🇦🇺
I have an rm125 and an rmz450. I weigh 220lbs and can say that 125s have plenty of power. I can send the 125 almost as far as the 450. you just have to keep it revved up and try to carry speed through turns. both fun bikes. an awesome combination to have at the track
Jesus. Idk what´s considered "skill" but the casual driving you just did made me look like a five year old. fascinating stuff.
Amazing shots🔥that creek shot on the 250 was golden
Wow the riding in your clips is a cut above what I was expecting! Nice balance.
250x is by far my favorite bike. I love it with the billetron installed it's so crisp and just awesome!!
Bro! You look like a pro out there. So dope🤙🏼
Thank you
You're a BEAST! Plus very informative. Good show, mate!
220lbs at 41yrs old C class, and I Love my 125X,went to a 51t rear and it carries me around very well, love how light and super fun it is. I also own a 250fx and I always see myself riding the 125x more. Great vid man👊🏽😎
id go 13-49 to get the best out of it.
I appreciate the info and great video quality/style!
Im 15 on a 300 but got used to hit riding enduro is so fun but still learning
Nice video! Does the 125X use a 2 ring piston like the 250X does? I've found over many decades that 2 ring piston 2 strokes seem last many more hours. What oil and ratio do you use?
I got a 2020 yz85 and do trail riding mud riding racing and hill climbs and a bit of enduro and I love it
One thing is certain, either will be cheaper and easier to fix then anything orange....ESPECIALLY if its got TPi in its nomenclature. Not a KTM hater, matter of fact I love my 350 but somethings just don't mix with mud and water when you're 20 miles deep in the woods from the nearest road.
First time viewer, Great riding. ENjoyed the content
Is a YZ 125 a good beginner bike for a new rider? What's the fastest 125 stock, on the market right now?
Tm racing 125. But id never recommend that to a beginner rider its a machine left for the A class. Yz125 is the best choice for beginners who want an 125 2t
Thanks for the comparison, that 125x looks interesting. Man you can ride! 👍
i geared my yz125 down as far as i could, i think it was like 12/51 or 52 maybe more stock was 13/48, really helped with the lugging/low end power, never had a need to go 70 mph or more anyway and now i can get up technical hills out of the power band under half throttle without stalling but still have plenty of pull
What would you say your top speed was
@@Deertracks123 maybe just over 60mph ahaah
125x good for trails and putting around, its light and won't wear you out . Biggest factor of all for me
You nailed it man. I have a 250FX but would almost go out and grab either one of these bikes. If I had the $$$ I’d get both. 👊🏽✊🏽
Awesome info and bikes brotha! Love my Yamaha, Be safe out there! Cheers 🥂
Thanks good video and the footy at the end is the icing on the cake.
I LOVE my 1998 CR125 but my 2005 CRF450R sure makes climbing sandy hills in Florida effortless. Both are awesome. Amazing power and weight difference though.
Great Video BeRAD!!!
What year is your YZ250X? How is the vibration in the bars and pegs? Thanks
You ride like a legend!! You make it look easier than me walking... haha
How do you like the sxs skid plate? Also - you bashed your rad. Would you recommend rad guards? I’m looking at the enduro engineering rad guards... thoughts? Options?
And lectron vs other options.. hmmm
So many mixed reviews on the lectron... it’s a lot of cash for a hope and prayer that I experience the desired improvements and no flat spots or throttle response bogging.
Given the whole idea is install, set up, never worry about it again... can you give a no bs assessment?
I ride at 4000 to 6000 ft elevations +/-
Dirt n iron just did a 125x with Keihin and STIC metering block... and they rave about that. 🤔
Awesome content - great riding - cheers!!
T'anks for posting these two now. 🙋🏼♀
2:12 wait let me get this straight. The yz 250 is better for newer riders? I would've thought the stronger bike would be harder to ride.
It’s heaver,
Great video, I love my CRF450l because it can go anywhere, literally, but I want a 250x someday
I love a 125 with some money put into them , snappy and quick not to mention how easy it's to handle
Thanks for the video I really have been looking at this bike and I am now actually going to be picking it up this week due to your videos question on your 125x which is a bike I'm going to be getting what mixture do you run
Subscribed when I saw that tree bounce trick. Sweet dude.
I agree you really got to ring that 125 out and most of the time keep the RPMs high.
Excellent video. Spot on advice . Get both
I'm impressed. Great input. Good riding. Do you have a 125x vs 250f?
I ride all bikes (except harleys)
I would say the same story would go with a 1000cc super bike vs a 600.
I love my 07 Suzuki gsxr 1000 but I miss working the bike harder.
(I'm 48 and married with children so to be honest I miss working the 1000 also. )
You’re an amazing rider. Thanks for the informative video
Great video! Answered all my questions!
Looking to buy my first new dirt bike. My experience started on a suzuki 80 and then I mainly rode street bikes ranging from a honda 600 f4i, honda 1000, harley street bob, and finally a yamaha 2017 r6. Would a 125x be a good starter dirtbike for me or should I go with a 250x for more power? Mainly gonna ride a little of everything from trails to track.
If your bikes didn’t come with kickstands and if you bought them separate where did you get them
Hey BeRad ,long time no see. So i have a question for you.. so i haven't rode in about 20 years now and i'm looking to get back on a bike . My last bikes where all 250's except for my husky 390 which i loved . So i'm looking at the 150's and the 250's now and i hear good and bad. I'm 240lbs and 5'11'' which one of these bikes would be good for me the 150 or the 250 ? Thanks again and Good job on the videos !
Thank you for the amazing comparison! I am thinking of getting into dirt biking, am considering one of these two bikes and leaning towards the 250. I notice that you wear glasses🤓 and am wondering if there are some special goggles for this, or use contact, or your vision isn't too bad and use nothing at all?
What about a 2005+ yz125 mx bike with a kickstand and yz125x cdi box? just as good? not all of us have $6700 to spend on a 2020 haha. I currently ride a 2004 crf250r mx bike and its not exactly made for the trail lol and im looking to find a good bike that can do both track and woods.
How did you mount the sxs skid plate on the 125? Did your instructions say to tap your frame? or did you do it another way?
I’m 240lb and got a yz125 and it taught me a lot I was going to keep it but just came by a steal price for a yz250x my coworker doesn’t want it it’s been sitting I’m like you give me a deal I’ll take it
Yz 125 is such a blast to ride! Plenty of HP to weight ratio.
How many hours before you top end rebuild from this bike
It didn’t look like you are running a stock head. (Not sure which bike it was on) Could you give us a little info? Such as brand, which cone you’re running and is that going to affect the setting with a Lectron Carb. Thanks for the awesome videos.
Blue Gersdorff apex-technical-innovations.com
The lighter weight crankshaft in the 125 makes the bike more nimble and better cornering - less gyroscopic effect.
You got a really good riding style you make it look easy
