Hi Tai and George, I really love to follow your projects. Such a nice thing to have more knowledge on the habitats of the fish I will be keeping. I just retired from work and I will start a new aquarium after being out of the hobby for 15 years. The tank will be special build 110 x 70 x 55. I pre ordered the book to gain more knowledge and inspiration. Really love your approach to nature. Love to experience your great respect for all the wonderfull living creatures and give them a nice scaped home. I will be following the both of you and wish you a happy 2024.

Beautiful scape mate! That bolivianum quadrostatos does amazing in my lowtech 9 gallon flex! I also used tropica tissue culture of it inspired by my favorite scape of Tais that was at aquarium gardens! Thanks for sharing George and I hope all is well with you mate!

What a brilliant and beautiful aquarium the two of you have created yet again!
To add to the botanical boiling conversation, I find boiling adds an extra peace of mind removing surface contamination and sterilising the leaf. Obviously this removes some benefits of using them in the first place but if the collection site is unknown/ slightly less rural or the botanical species untested it can prevent issues.
Great vid guys! The thought about the Co2 totally reframes my thoughts around why we’d inject CO2, time to try this in one of my tanks 🍂

Lovely little low stress video. Happy New Year to both of you. When I was a kid, my tap water was soft, so life was easy for tetras etc., not so good for Black Mollies, for a cheap tannin impact and for controllable brown staining of water, we used cold tea. We had to take care, cold tea was surprisingly acidic when made with water sourced from granite mountains. Only discoloured the water moderately and if I remember correctly, carbon filtration quickly would very quickly remove the stain. For a more permanent change to the tank water we used cold tea added to the water column and peat mixed into the substrate and/or a peat block pushed into the filter. Soft water fish kept in such conditions and fed live food coloured up and became 'frisky' within days.

I always throw plant trimmings and floating plants in the garden to decompose when i dont feed my turtles with it.
There are no woodfibers so its gone very quickly.
Free nutrients for the garden.
No risks for invasive plants in nature.
