Hey MJ I have a question. In all your scapes I never see a heater. Is that something that is needed? I see some channels say it is but i've never noticed a heater in your scapes. Unless I'm not noticing it. Just thought I'd ask.
Absolutely gorgeous. The bulb plants give it a very unique look compared to most scapes you see. I had never heard of either African butterfly cichlids nor the banded barbs before your channel--amazing fish selection!
This has become my favorite of all your tank vids. One the overall scape and I love that your take the time to list each plant individually with side description and facts.
@15:40 "Whoops" - The facial expression of the butterfly chichlid was priceless 😂😂 Amazing tank, and it’s crazy how fast the bulb plants grew! Love it. ❤
This is definitely one of my favourite tanks! I live the mixture of the different aponogeton and the Lotus, and the fish are gorgeous. Very well done!!!
Absolutely love this tank and aquascape. Has a bit of a wild natural look to it which I love. Fish selection was outstanding as well. MJ this is definitely one of my favorites! Amazing job!
Really nice! Having watched scaping videos for ages I often find the thumbnails less enticing but the video content always turns out to show how nice the tanks are. It's testament to how strong this scape is that even the thumbnail has punch. Definitely something a bit different. Loving the big greens
Those banded barbs really compliment the aquascape! Perfect selection of fish and gorgeous background plants! Simply amazing! You inspire many of us who do aquascaping as a hobby!
I find this scape quite original and while you were building I could not imagine how awsome it would turn......kudos again! African barbs....how beautifull!
got mine aponegetons for 9years!! the boivianus ant they grow BIGG..but dont forget that these plants sometimes will stop growing and go in some kind of sleep mode, after some time you thingk to take them out!..dont do that..let them survive..they have some kind of sleeping periode , they loose leaves and give you the feeling that they die!!..and afther that they will grow again..i love this plant specialy in the big tanks..mine got in the best times leaves about 70cm's !! yes..so big! love this tank..the maanvis in nijmegen is such a good shop! and maarten is a good friend of mine..i will follow this tank..thanks..mike
Hey, late comment but you might want to consider having the basket with sponges in the bottom of the filter. If I remember correctly water flows through prefilter > through heater section > from bottom and up through baskets and then out. So having sponges at the bottom should keep the biomedia and carbon less clogged with bad stuff and leave more space for beneficial bacteria. Love your channel! This tank looks amazing, lovely fish choice as well
I think the issue with the Lilaeopsis is a light issue. They are very light hungry little plants. As for the layout, absolutely stunning, and a lovely selection of fish on top of it. I adore it.
Just a minor tip, az-aqua has scape covers to keep the soil in place. U can cut them in height and length. Use them to hold the soil against the back as a kind of barrière and rest the rocks against the barrier. Really cheap and easy to use, and they are black color. 🎉
This is perfect timing MJ!!!!! I was just trying to do an Iwagumi scape and figuring out how to mesh rocks with aquasoil and sand! This gave me an amazing idea and a good way to separate sand and aquasoil! You’re the best!!! Much love from US Delaware!
Thank you for sharing both the good and the bad parts of your experience, I think it makes baby aquascapers like me feel better about tanks that don’t always work out :)
I really like the look of this aquascape! it looks more like something you would see in nature compared to something like an iwagumi or dutch style aquascape, the forest of aponogeton really looks natural. Great job Mark!
This is very much a more-is-more kind of aquascape, which is not my thing (because I'm a greige Nordic person lol) but it's a refreshing change of pace for the channel :) Looking forward to updates on this!
Beautiful tank! I have been thinking about setting up a similar tank and was very happy to see the banded barbs in there at the end. Thanks for sharing.
Hey MJ, I recently got into the hobby and am a huge fan. I would love to see you do an aquascape where all of the plants are trimmings/propagated from other tanks to see how you approach it. I live in Bermuda where it's next to impossible to get new aquarium plants because of regulation and 95% of my plants are trimmings from someone else's tank
Hi MJ! Wishing you a successful 2024. Very beautiful scape! I noticed that you added a Madagascar lace plant on the right side, which you hadn’t mentioned. I would love to hear your feedback on this plant as it develops. I was born in South Africa and first started in the hobby there. Back then, I did a lot of Dutch style planted tanks, before the aquascaping craze started. I was very fortunate to use CO2 back then, I had the Dupla CO2 regulator and then some homemade CO2 diffuser in a small box shape similar a maze which I made of acrylic. It wasn’t as functional or as beautiful as the diffusers you get these days, but it worked ok. Madagascar lace plants were easily available back then, but I always had some issues to grow them 100%. I’ve always wondered if they grow better in sand vs soil. Back then I planted them in a substrate system with heated cable underneath, nutrient base and topped with a sand layer. There weren’t the multitude of liquid fertilisers available back then, only chelated iron powder and root tabs. This worked pretty good. Recently, about a year back, I planted a lace plant in soil, but it struggled to stay healthy and the leaves kept reducing in size until none were left. I know the bulb can go dormant, so I left it there. Unfortunately, some Cor’s decided to dig it out and it rotted away. They are not common here in Australia and can be fairly expensive, but I intend to get some more and try again. Love the blue eyed Congo tetras. Again, difficult to get here. Much love André
Great work mate👌 I think the whole aquarium with everything in it is also popping because of the light... Those skylights are still my favourite and absolutely beautiful 😊.
Happy New Year to you. Excellentaquarium. Not much is known about the Non Cichlid African species. Great to see them get some exposure. More like this would be great. Excellent project and awesome outcome.
love this MJ, the cichlids are a great choice for the tank, they look like a Jack Dempsey breed (you may of said this) I'll have to show you my cichlids. The tetras are lovely, I can never get these when I go looking.
The new layout looks really good. I will be rescaping my 90p in the next couple of months and might get the Jade rocks from Wio also. I have never tried bulb plants before and they look fantastic so might try them out as well.
An excellent setup with classic MJ touch. I love how the backside has turned out with the aponogeton species. It's something I wanted to achieve with echinodorus but a mix of aponogeton did it better. Once again I am hooked to your choice of fishes...those Congo tetras are my new favourites.. The lileopsis probably have been shaded/outcompeted by the larger plants...so I guess cutting back the aponogeton might help...
love the layout and the banded barbs!! gorgeous bunch of fish altogether. great execution of the rock barrier. rescaping a uns 45l partly because of the decorative sand mixing. it had some of the same lilies and they did great in the mix of caribsea sand and fluval stratum haha. going to have to comb through past videos for the nano long ideas, the smaller space has been tough to figure out. thanks for the video!!!
This turned out really lovely, only issue is how to deal up with all those aponogetons. I cam imagine how they could easily overtake the tank and curious at how many root tabs they will need in the future.
Thanks for showing us a very nice scape, love the coloring on the jade stones in combo with the plants and wood. Personally like less population, but each there own ;-)
I know going for plants from one part of the world only, can be tricky. At first I thought I'd go for South American only, but so many plants are about the same shade of green and there aren't many epiphytes to choose from. And I also don't want it to be all echinodorus. So I also added a couple of anubias and some buces for some darker green in the more shadowy parts.

What brand of planting tweezers do you use? 🤔
Hey MJ I have a question. In all your scapes I never see a heater. Is that something that is needed? I see some channels say it is but i've never noticed a heater in your scapes. Unless I'm not noticing it. Just thought I'd ask.
@@F1atman I do run a few tanks without a heater, but it depends on the inhabitants. This tank has the Oase filter with a built in heater
Not sure what to compliment more, the layout, the plants or the fish. Great work, this is a beautiful tank.😊
Thank you so much 😀
Weer een super bak geworden, erg mooi, de beste wensen nog, Guyana ligt naast Suriname, Zuid Amerika dus. 😊
Very nice hardscape! The Myriophyllum "Guyana" is from South America though! 😉 But the Thomas cichlids took care of that problem their own way! Lol 😋
I have a 6 foot tank. The first scape I did was really amateur. Your videos inspired me to start from scratch and now it's a masterpiece :)
Absolutely gorgeous. The bulb plants give it a very unique look compared to most scapes you see. I had never heard of either African butterfly cichlids nor the banded barbs before your channel--amazing fish selection!
Using all those bulbs as background plants turned out really beautiful. The whole tank looks great, and the fish are really cool.
I just love themed tanks. Not every fish or plant needs to be from the same region, just the majority. This looks great. 👍
This has become my favorite of all your tank vids. One the overall scape and I love that your take the time to list each plant individually with side description and facts.
Those afican cichlids are so nice!. Their colors pop!.
Wow! Love the bulb plant development and the addition of the barbs and Congo tetras. Stunner!😮
@15:40 "Whoops" - The facial expression of the butterfly chichlid was priceless 😂😂
Amazing tank, and it’s crazy how fast the bulb plants grew! Love it. ❤

Man that grew in really, really nicely! Great fish selection as well. Those banded barbs are really pretty fish!
this is my favorite tank you've made. non biased opinion from an African
This is jaw dropping… absolutely my favorite scape I’ve seen anywhere and now i want an African tank with a similar vibe!!
This is definitely one of my absolute favorites aquascapes I’ve ever seen 😍
Same here!

The colors of the fish really shine against all the green of the plants. Very nice!
Superb looking set up with a nice big selection of fantastic looking fish.
Really beautiful creation! One of your best works 😊
Those banded barbs really compliment the aquascape! Perfect selection of fish and gorgeous background plants! Simply amazing! You inspire many of us who do aquascaping as a hobby!
Looks amazing. All the plants in the background gives almost forrestry feelings.
I think it’s by far my favourite one yet!!! Beautiful and inspiring 👍👍👍
Top marks MJ~! Great concept and execution.
All time favorite aquascaping channel 🙌🏽🙌🏽 every upload is a hit, keep it up 🔥
I find this scape quite original and while you were building I could not imagine how awsome it would turn......kudos again! African barbs....how beautifull!

Keep up the great work 👌

Very beautiful Tank !!! Congratz 😊
Loving the scape. And the longer cinematic video at the end. Kudos!
A very unique scape and very very natural, love this!
Very beautiful aqua scape as usual! You never seem to disappoint
Beautiful! Can't wait to see how this grows. Those blue eyed congo tetra are the perfect addition 👍
Those barbs are awesome!
C'est un merveilleux cadeau et en même temps une incroyable leçon de simplicité et de perfection.. BRAVO ET BONNE ANNÉE 🎉❤
Gorgeous! Fish selection great also. Bulbs give background a whole different look. Enjoy the tank. Thanks for sharing.
Really beautiful tank again!
Wow…those bulbs! Very nice!
beautiful tank! those bulbs really turned out well!
Have been looking forward to this one! I love the format of the 90!

Love your choice of fish Congo and butterfly cichlids are so underrated. Don't need to say much about your scape always spot on! 👍🏻

Wow! Love it!! Beautiful how the bulbs in back grew out. Love the fish choices too. Another winner!! ☺️
Love the new layout. Very interesting choice of background plants. I think it came out great! Thanks for the video. I really enjoyed it.
Awesome aquascape its probably my favorite one of your scapes next to the big shallow v2

the layout is mmuch beatiful than last one, love it!
Everything looks amazing nice work!
Beautiful tank! I have been thinking about setting up a similar tank and was very happy to see the banded barbs in there at the end. Thanks for sharing.
That first frame after "6 weeks later" lands strong!

Hey Andre! So far the lace plants are doing alright, but they definitely grow a lot slower compared to the other aponogetons.
Unique setup, looks amazing

een heel erg mooi aquarium mooie planten

Beautiful scape
Mooie natuurlijke layout! Leuke vissen ook.
Stunning mate 👍👍
Awesome! and now tint it with this humin stuff ^^ i guess it looks even cooler with a light brown wather
Heel mooi resultaat 👍👌
Nice tank 🙂, finally something easier to maintain 😜
Great job. Love the fish. Thanks for sharing
Loving the video already!
This turned out really lovely, only issue is how to deal up with all those aponogetons. I cam imagine how they could easily overtake the tank and curious at how many root tabs they will need in the future.

Beautiful tank!
I think you should move the filter inlet to the back.
Not a bad idea!
