LETS GOOOOOO !!! The run that changed the GAME on Black Panther ! Priest killed it with this & his Deathstroke run ! Just straight up character defining runs ! This one here is a must have !
Anyone else here watching this video while they stretch the spine of this very book? I’ve never read any of this run, but I trust an Omar recommendation so I’m excited to dive into it.
That’s been my tradition whenever I get a new book for the last 2 years tbh hahah and if a book happens to drop that he doesn’t make a video on I settle for other videos.
I ordered this & can't wait to read it! My only gripe is they switched the DM variant, I really thought that cover w/ BP cutting through the white background was cool. But if thats my only gripe I guess its something I can get over. #WakandaForever
This is one of my most wanted omnibus in 2022! I really like the African panther mask in the sky. Warriors fill the top of the buildings and the Black Panther costume design is amazing. The spine look so badass (Joe Jusko art). DM cover all day and "under the dust jacket" is beautiful. Please Marvel, give us a vol. 2!!
This will be a great read over the holidays, looking forward to this omni arriving. Marvel Knights certainly had some fantastic creative teams on their books. (Would also love to see Joe Quesada’s Daredevil run repackaged from Marvel Knights to simply Daredevil so it sits with my other DD books.) Thanks Omar!
I never read this title when it came out, but I heard it was good. This was such a great era for the Avengers titles. Avengers by Busiek and Perez, Iron Man by Busiek and Chen, Thor by Jurgens and JRJR, Black Panther by Priest…even Captain America was a solid read.
I was initially going to pass on this omni as I remember liking the series when it originally came out but never felt the need to go back and re-read it. But Omar is making me reconsider it.
Priest thought it was a 12 issue maxiseries so wrapped up the various plotlines. He was surprised when the editor called him asking where the script for no. 13 was!
@@NearMintCondition I'm still wondering how T'Challa got over his incurable brain aneurysm...and gained a sister (I know Shuri was created when the Hudlin and Romita Jr story was being treated like an out of continuity miniseries but they later folded her in without even attempting to address where she was for the first 40 years of T'Challa's existence...he's probably got one of the most confused and inconsistent continuity of any Marvel character)
I have this run in singles and Complete Collections, but I'm getting this anyway to show support. Afaic this is the real Black Panther (I like the McGregor stuff too), I don't know what they've been trying to do with T'Challa since Secret Wars. The art on the boards for this is incredible. I wish Tex did more of the interior, no disrespect to Velluto.
The Coates run isn't so bad, especially the Intergalactic Empire stuff in the second half of it. I mean, it's nowhere near as good as Priest's (what is?), but it's not far behind McGregor's, and it's waaaaaaaay better than Hudlin's offensively awful run.
@@mfolwell I thought the Integralactic Empire stuff was kind of cool...I just hate how much everything post Secret Wars seems to want to center the supporting cast at T'Challa's expense. For that reason alone, I prefer Hudlin's run...although maybe I should go back and re-read it, I haven't read it in over 10 years. That being said, I remember thinking the best story of that era was the one Jason Aaron wrote, by a country mile.
@@nivekleveb8872 I've heard Aaron's three issue fill in was good, but I hated Hudlin's so much that I gave up after maybe 12 issues, immediately threw out my brand new copy of the first Complete Collection, and cannot bear to revisit that era. I've disliked plenty of books, of course, but Hudlin's _Black Panther_ made me genuinely furious at having spent money on it, which has never happened before or since. It got off on the wrong foot when his opening scene featured a 5th century African tribesman shouting "Kiss my butt", and only got worse from there. *shudder*
Glad others have noticed too. T'Challa hasn't been properly written in his own ongoings since Secret Wars and it's been very disappointing. At this point you have to read T'Challa in team up books like The Ultimates and Agents of Wakanda to get half decent characterization. Wasn't a fan of Coates and I never thought it could get worse but Ridley made me eat my words. Genuinely the worst run I think I've ever read, can't wait until it's done.
@@PureMoss I'm with you 100 percent...I didn't read Agents of Wakanda, but the only writers I know that have handled his character with any dignity since Hickman left are Ewing (Ultimates, Immortal Hulk), Aaron (Avengers), and Spencer (Secret Empire) and Geoffrey Thorne in the King in Black tie in (the guy who should be writing the book instead of Ridley's stupid ass). His solo book hasn't been great in a long time and it's been mostly embarrassing and the spin offs are making it worse. You would think the Priest depiction would be the default since it's the most well regarded, but it seems to only be team book writers that want to do it.
I mainly collect and read DC, but I’m thinking of reading this since it’s so easy to fall in and sounds like another great run from Priest. His Deathstroke run was just a masterpiece.
When I picked up the #1 issue, I thought it was just a mini series. I was confused at first, but after a couple rereads I was anxious to continue on. My lcs didn't have issue #2, and so just gave up too soon on it. I am very grateful to get a second chance to read this series.
Odd that they changed the DM variant. I wonder if they had low orders for that one. I know some really liked it, but it seemed like a lot of white space to me. 🤷♂ I ended up pre-ordering the Standard cover, so looking forward to receiving this book soon.
Yo Omar, I’m digging the background music choices and how you’re changing it up for different videos. It’s quiet enough that I sometimes can’t make it out. Who’s playing on this? Slayer? Pantera?
I’m trying to figure out when it was changed. Sometimes PRH doesn’t even change the covers. Like the case of Flash by Waid. We didn’t have any clue what the cover was but they had the file for months.
@@NearMintCondition thanks Omar! I don’t even care that much personally. It’s more I think it’s disrespectful to the customer to change what people already paid for and can’t exchange. Plus the original one was dope. Like why change it. Still can’t wait to sit down with this one and bring on Vol 2!
@@mfolwell oh man, it is one of the most wanted omnis by my viewers. Forums loved his stuff. It sold well too, those early issues more than the Priest run. Don't get me wrong it has its moments, but overall I've always preferred Priest's run.
I read Priest run in Complete Collection format, and didn’t enjoy it as much as I did Ta-Nehisi Coates’ run. I felt like Coates is more cerebral and intellectual. I wasn’t fond of the art on Priest run either.

Just got it on ebay for $30.00...never read any of this

Can’t wait to get my copy in the mail and hopefully we get a Vol 2 announcement soon
Great overview per usual! Im hoping for Volume 2 to get announced soon!
Uncanny Omar putting in WORK! Much appreciated man! Priest Black Panther is 🔥

One of my most anticipated Omnies of the year! Going to upgrade from the Complete Collections. Can't wait for announcement of vol 2
Finally, such an amazing run, can't wait to pick this up. Now we just need a Black Panther by Reginald Hudlin omni.

Agree 100% need reprint of IM and Cap.
Which Cap run was during this era?
@@SuperMcgangbang Mark Waid’s second run with art by Garney and then Kubert. Dan Jurgens took over as writer at some point during this period too.
I cannott wait for mine!!! I just collected the entire Hudlin collected editions UPDATE: I cannot put it down, def page turner
Been ready for this for this one! Can’t wait to get it!
Pleasntly suprised about the change for the DM cover!

Awesome overview as always!
Yo, great job on the channel. It'd be nice to see a ''best christmas comics'' video with stories or one-shots someone can read.
Great idea. Thank youZ
Very tempted. Looks solid.
At long last, it is here. A volume 2 would look really nice beside this…I’m just saying
Priest thought it was a 12 issue maxiseries so wrapped up the various plotlines.
He was surprised when the editor called him asking where the script for no. 13 was!
And then sadly he didn’t get to wrap up his loose ends when the series got canceled.
The series got cancelled

Been asking omar for weeks
I'm not too familiar with Black Panther's solo stuff. is this an ok jumping on point? or will i be lost?
It’s his best run but it’s not the best jumping on point.
They changed the DM cover 😢

It was and it was changed two months ago. :/

Why even bother soliciting covers if they change them after the order cut-off date and simultaneously stress the importance of pre-ordering
