If there’s one thing I love about the MCU is that it introduced me to this version of the GOTG and made me instantly love them. I’ve yet to read a comic featuring them though.
I know you are not a fan of Bendis' work, Omar, but this was a very professional overview. I myself enjoyed this run and I'm interested in this omnibus. Thanks for the awesome video! Keep up the good work!
I already have the older printing but I’m peer pressuring every omni collector I know to grab a copy if they don’t have it already. We need that Vol 2!
I grabbed this when the local Ollie's opened here back in Fall 2020. Still on my "to read" list, but hopefully those waiting for a volume 2 will get one.
On the fence about this one! I appreciate you mentioning the "AR" stuff - I was wondering how Marvel would be handling that moving forward... I don't even know exactly what it is, but I know it's on some of my old trades!
I actually had a question in my kind about this book and (stupidly) cancelled my pre-order of this. Seeing the artwork and everything, I have MANY regrets!!!! The book price has now sky-rocketed too....I want this book so baly now....helps me Omni community :/
I've got my copy on order since last summer when you pointed out Amazon had an error where the title said it was this omni but the description was a Spider-Man book. That's not shipping until May but I will agree with Amazon to get this for that price.
Thanks Omar! Great overview. Would really appreciate a Guardians reading order. I love the DNA run and it will always be my favorite but this run is a whole lot of fun. Is it great? No. Does it do somethings that annoy me? Yes. Did it lean into the movies a little too much? Yes. Overall, did I like it? Oh yeah. Haha. I really appreciated that in Cates' Venom run he respected what Bendis did with the Symbiotes but then also retconned it. One thing that bugs me, and it's a little gripe, is in the Avengers Assemble issues, it's set up like the Avengers are meeting Thanos for the first time. It acted as though it was set in current continuity with the Avengers, but disregarded all their history with any cosmic character. I didn't like that nor did I think it was necessary. It'll be interesting to see if they release a volume 2. I own the original printing plus volume 4 and 5 of the OHC'c. There's really nothing to add to those OHC's but we'll see. Looking forward to those Avengers Omnis by Bendis. But there's gonna be a lot of volumes. Take care and peace everyone.
Your comments regarding the Avengers meeting Thanos reminds me of Final Crisis, where for some reason they act like they don't know what a New God is, even when they have had them in the team in multiple occasions. Morrison himself had Orion in the JLA, but then he writes Final Crisis and acts like that never happened. I might need to reread the whole thing 😂.
@@marcelo-ramos I totally get what your saying. Final Crisis was one of the first comic stories I ever read. I felt like the main characters talked about New Gods as if they weren't familiar was so they could repeatedly explain them to new and casual readers who wanted to check out the big event. They were all aware who Orion was. They just were in shock that he had been murdered. When Batman shoots Darkseid I didn't get the vibe he was meeting him for the first time. Also when Superman obliterates him he says in his inner monolog that he's singing in the pitches of the 52 different multiverses because Darkseid always hated music. Super obscure. And super cool! Haha. In Avengers Assemble when you have Captain America asking who Thanos is, it's like, Cap! He's the guy that shattered your shield in Infinity Gaunlet! Haha. Thanks for the comment. Take care and peace everyone.
Great overview as always Omar. The knowledge you share; like for e.g. where this omni fits in the reading order of GotG and the cosmic saga, is so helpful for readers like myself who don't have that vast background knowledge but want to continue delving deeper into comics. This is one I hope to pick up soon(that Rocket DM cover is 😚👌🏼) and moreso now after this great overview🤟🏼🤟🏼 Cheers Omar😁
I feel like if I'm gonna buy earlier runs I would buy omnibus and now if there are ongoings I would just buy tp as normal. So this is the perfect book for the Guardians.
I never knew that story about Bendis and Kevin Maguire. I may not care for this run, but Bendis will always have my respect. And that's crazy, because Kevin Maguire is one of the all-time greats in my book. There is no comic book artist better at facial expressions. In any era.
It seems like Imak are getting most of the work now, to be fair their quality has improved even though the colours always seem a little flatter due to their printing process. Nice to see this omni reprinted!
There's some omnis that I only want to buy if we get a vol. 2 (or more, the whole run should I say), but if we don't buy vols. 1, reduces the chances of getting the follow up. 🤔 Ah, if all the problems in life were like this... 🤣
I don't think the first printing had any DM covers. I feel I would have seen them somewhere since these had stock sitting around forever (not a dig, I have this book and enjoy it, but the first run did not sell well so this reprint is weird to me). It gives me similar vibes to the Jason Aaron Star Wars omni (that run has more fans but the omni was still available everywhere when the reprint was announced/solicited, and it received DM covers).
Hey Omar - do you think they'd take any of the Venom centric content and include it in Venomnibus? They seem to be fine with double dipping certain content, but between Secret Avengers, Thunderbolts, and Guardians, Agent Venom really got around...
Great overview as always! If there was a volume 2 would it only collect the material from the OHCs 4&5, or is there something else that’d be included? Bring on the GOTG reading order. 😊
@@NearMintCondition 😂 Yeah, I'm good, thanks for asking. Haven't been in the live chat much recently, staying up til the wee hours of the morning is depriving me of much needed beauty sleep, and boy do I need that. Hope all's well with your mum and the rest of the fam. Stay Mintie. 😄
Nice review, butcstill on the wall about this as not a fan of bendis. BTW ....Gamora's first outfit was a fishnet body suit in warlock. Not that I have any trouble with your favourite gamora outfit
Omar man is there a place where I can buy just the sleeve of an omnibus? I found this exact Omni in a used book store called 2ND and Charles for 30 bucks, it’s just missing the sleeve smh
Bendis did get to work with some great artists for this shame it wasn’t his best work started ok but when you get to black vortex god that was not the best
Uh, wait a minute! Is that the same Angela who died unresurrectably in Todd McFarlane's Spawn? So do angels from the Spawn Universe go to the Marvel Universe when they die? Does that mean the Marvel Universe is the Spawn Universe's Heaven's Hell?
Pass for me, I read a lot of this at the time and its not anywhere near as good as the DNA run and what went before. Plus annoyingly it junks a lot of the characters and hooks in ones (like Iron Man and Captain Marvel) that don't really belong here and aren't needed, and it revises too much stuff. Fantastic art though and was great to see Kevin Maguire on it
Omar, do you know if there’ll be a Vol 2? I guess you can’t say even if you did. I’ll take your silence as a yes and you do a Breaking announcement soon 😉

This completely missed the point of the Abnett/Lanning run and really changed the voices of the characters, most of them, to better suit the style of the MCU. That's just my opinion. It did not help that McNiven was one of the selling points and then dropped out quite early from this series. Overall, I'd rate this run a low B or high C, compared to the A that was the DnA run
