My name is Jacob and I am a Norse Pagan. I started my journey with the Old Gods in 2016, in 2019 I was giving an offering to Odin outside of my home and I felt his presence before me. In a few short words I knew my task ahead of me, I needed to gather the folk. With backgrounds in running my own photography business, and my time managing restaurants, I had the skills to make a difference.
I started with an Instagram account in June 2019 to start reaching out to others for the first time, and in August 2019 I began my journey into youtube. While it was a slow journey at first, I continued to make videos in hopes that they could help others who started out lost like me. By February of 2020 I made the first huge step into what the Wisdom of Odin was created to do, I put out a call to gather the folk. Within a week I had 9 people ready to meet in Kentucky for an Ostara festival, and it was one of the most beautiful days of our lives.
We started something on that hill, we set in motion something I think will change the world. We started to plan the next gathering a day after returning home. Midsummer would become a life changing experience all over again. We gathered 27 people to worship the old gods in Kentucky.
In between those two gatherings the Wisdom of Odin sky rocketed in viewership and community support. While I am so honored to be watched by so many, my ability to respond to meesages is coming to an end. All I can do is to continue to promote these gatherings, and make videos to help others.
There is a dream that exist, a dream that grows closer by the day. A dream to build a hall in North America! Keep watching for updates on its development. This hall will not be easy and it will have cost, I am working with some amazing people to make this happen and I hope when the time comes youll be willing to take up hammers to assist us in its construction.

A good introduction, but any discussion on the Havamal really should include Stanza 127, which is one of the three or four most important subjects. “Where you see evil, name it as evil and give your enemies no peace”
Your grandfather's statement about the intent of carrying a weapon is real wisdom. Excellent video across the board.
My grandfather always said he didn't carry a weapon to force his will on someone else but to keep them for forcing theirs on him and I follow that as well I carry but pray I never have to draw on another person

My very strict Christian mother once asked me after I stopped being a police officer, why do you still carry your weapon everywhere. I said because I trust my bullets over your prayers most days. I don’t carry it to be evil but to keep evil at bay. Some what the same as the pervious comment.

Btw, prayers are useless. Great for making someone with zero resolve feel better about not taking ownership of choices. You always have choices. Whether they are taken or not is your own responsibility.

I've done a lot of drinking, but have cut back recently. Alcohol makes everything seem dimmer, faded, it makes me feel older, tired. I can remember my dreams now and get better sleep since I cut down.

I felt the same way about my marijuana habit. I sacrificed that habit to the gods 3 days ago and I've never felt closer to them honestly. Sober life is great!

I became a kind of person I despised, and somehow, was awoken from my ignorance by events that guided me away from that lifestyle.
I do still drink occasionally, but have seriously reduced how often and how much I drink.
I still can't remember my dreams most of the time, but then again my dreams are often very intense when I do remember them, and can wake me up or ruin my sleep.
And on the subject of sleep. I often find it difficult to sleep not because I worry, but because my mind refuses to stop thinking. I have to manually hold the mental thought shutoff button. Basically force my mind to stop thinking in order to sleep. Ironically watching a movie like fight club, v for vendetta, the matrix, ect. helps me to sleep. It's familiar, and relaxing. The tranquility of repetition I suppose. I've seen them a hundred times each at least.
I'm genuinely interested in learning about my dreams, but when I dream they're often a weird mix of a nightmare and a normal dream. I'm also often mixed between being lucid but also not. I know I'm in a dream but I can't control it.

Also totally agree about the legacy aspect. I'm a proud father of three sons that I teach the norse ways to. Its incredibly rewarding. Being remembered through family is everything.

I got the Havamal, and when I read it was so logical, and the advice is so practical.
I just ordered my copy of the pocket Havamal from Grimfrost. Can't wait to delve deeper into the wisdom of the Allfather.
As an Odin worshipper myself, I do go back and read Havamál time to time too. Its almost scary how accurate 1000 years later too. Luckily I read that in Hungarian first, and the translators made a great job (they wrote it also as if Odin talking to you). I loved this video. Hail the folk, hail the gods!

Gotta agree with you about the forgiveness. It doesn't mean holding grudges per se, but definitely closing the door on whatever relationship it is when people are treating you badly and are set in their ways. It's important for healing and for personal growth 🌳
I love that you incorporated the weapon aspect of the Havamal, I think a lot of Heathens tend to shy away from it with a mix of political leanings and religion.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom. I remember 20+ years ago when my father, who I greatly love and respect, asked me why I had so much ammo in my pantry. I was dumbfounded because I probably had less than a 20-round box for each caliber that I own. He didn't see the greater amounts stored elsewhere. I believe in self-reliance and being a part of your community and having things to share with the community when needed.
11:52 this actually makes a lot of sense. my family regularly takes long road trips, sometimes up to 18 hours long or even more than that. Most of our family and some friends live really far away and driving that far just to see them is worth it to us

Before ever finding this faith I drank to blackout at least once a week and just drank heavily each day. This went on for 3 years until I got cancer and could not drink anymore. Fully cured now I realized during my recovery I was much happier and confident with myself as a person the less I drank. I too will still occasionally have a beer while out with my friends but never anything like I used to. Being new to the faith I'm so glad I found your channel as I am so eager to take in all the information I can. But this video really struck a cord with me. That realization was one of the most poignant moments of my life and had I read the Havamal before going through those dark days maybe I could have saved myself mountains of trouble.

Love the stanzas on friendship & giving. Especially living with social distancing I'm even more grateful for my friends and family. Those lines may help explain why lately, on the rare occasion someone does come by to visit I feel an overwhelming need to bestow random objects upon them lol.

I have followed so many of this stanzas for so long unknowingly, that every time I discover more and more of Norse Paganism I came to realize that I was called by the Gods way before acquiring the knowledge or be aware of it. Great video brother!

There is something powerful about them, words remembered 1000 years later will always have truth buried inside them. Stanza 34 rings true with me. If you asked me to come to the Midsummer gathering in Kentucky, I would walk to Kentucky if I had to, and I live in Oregon. It would be entirely worth it.
If I can I walk to a gathering. The midsummer ritual in 2019 had me walking 2 days to there with my 1-person hikertent, camp there and walk back the next day. Not from my house, that was too far, but from and to trainstations for a total of 60k/37mls. Walking made me pagan to begin with so it's a permanent part of my practice.

Good sir you did awesome on my eyes. And as a beginner in heathen pagan what not. I am trying to learn about my people. I live off the land in my little home. I'm using my gf account for I do not use the Internet much. I don't have money to use on books and such. So when I get a chance to learn something about my history and the people I came from its a blessing. So thank you for sharing those wise words from a wise man who could see common sense of his time and future. I will be watching you more to take notes on norse and if possible celt/Irish roots. The wanderer's Havamal is really worth it. Even if you have Crawford's Edda, the translation in the Wanderer's Havamal is better and has notes.

In the narrative of the ship burning along the vulga river the writer said of the Russ "they carry axes swords and daggers and always have them to hand"
I get a lot from channels and other resources like this. I rarely read anything pagan-related, I prefer to listen. I have several audiobooks but no paper books of or about the Edda, Havamal and such. What is not written can change and develop naturally. I understand the need for written sources though, as there aren't as much of us right now as there once were.
I would offer (and it's just food for thought, not food for fights...) that Forgiveness doesn't mean just letting people who don't change walk all over you. You're still allowed to have boundaries when you forgive someone. Forgiveness doesn't really do anything for the other person, but it allows you yourself to move on. I would also offer that the idea of repaying treachery with treachery doesn't necessarily mean harm for harm. If I am your "friend" and I break that friendship for whatever reason, especially if that reason is selfish, or does cause harm, I can repay that "treachery" with the same "treachery" and stop considering you a friend. I can forgive you for the action, but still hold the same outcome, thus being free to move on with my life, while still living the Havamalic wisdom.
I'd surely value anyone's thoughts on this thought, but I sincerely don't want to fight about it.

The first stanza to me was more philosophical, I think Odin was referring to any new venture or goal that you are chasing. It could also be applied to an actual room though.
I have a serious problem with booze and have for a decade. Luckily I've recently quit and have been doing really well. Its a common misconception that pagans have to be rowdy drinkers. All though for many of us that is true. I do still use it as offerings. And I dig that you have guns. I personally own mostly rifles and shotguns for hunting purposes, but I still think everyone should keep one specifically for home defense. Also practice melee with axes and what not regularly. great exercise and it enhances form. Love the Edda convo man

Also on Stanza 47: I believe it can relate to your finances; Never out spend your pocket, always be prepared to have a fall-back in case of catastrophe. Seeing more and more these days where folks are losing their jobs and have no money to fall back on - don't put that stress on yourself and make sure you have enough to tide you over for a few months until you can get working again.

Because this Winter, I'm planning to attend my very first one with you since I'm from Ohio and Kentucky's right next door; I also learned the saying from Stanza 5: obtaining my knowledge of the Gods and the faith by talking to people whom already mastered it. Thus, the main thing the motivates me to travel there. I'm really hoping to meet you in person soon, as well as my Norse brothers and sisters. Hi! I am learning about this faith because of a recent experience I had. I have always felt a presence of a strong guide in my life, and assumed it was a deity. At first I thought it was Aphrodite or Hecate, then it hit me. All of the signs I was seeing, everything I was feeling has made me realize that this whole time it was Freyja. The night I had my revelation, I did some basic research about her and found traditional music dedicated to her. I listened to the music and felt her presence around me. I felt so happy, strong, and empowered all at once. Although I am young, I feel this faith might be right for me, and I’m so happy I found your channel! Also, if anyone has any tips or advice for a new Norse Pagan please reply with it!
My suggestion for you would be to not rush into it. Understand our gods, search about them and talk to them :)

Have you yet done a video that discusses the books about the faith that occupy your shelves?
I would like to find more norse/Germanic material on defeating alcoholism, but it might prove difficult being that our ancestors didn't have the full grasp of the disease.
Self discipline is crucial of course but it is still a disease/ demon that still affects/plagues the mind even if you don't drink.
On the gift giving. I believe the gods see many things as gifts, for example, odin would probably see the gift of wisdom as a proper gift, objective gifts are very commonplace. But nonphysical gifts are just as important, if not better. (Indecent quote from my grandfather)
I wrote these stanzas down. I plan to buy a copy of the Havamal for myself. But if I cannot, I will at least have these and so shall my children and my children's children.

It is easy: These texts were written under a context of religious persecution. We have SEVERAL things hidden there because the language allows it, as it is with a high level of complexity.
Not meant to the eyes of the intolerant.
Easy example that everyone passed:

Most translate nýsta ek niðr, as "peered down"
but most correct way is: "looked inside".

Hávamál is "basically" divided in 3 parts:
* 1st part of Hávamál a behavioral code for crude men, (not special Icelandic; found all over)
* 2nd part for aspirant of truth, Loddfáfnir,
* 3rd part pure þeosofi for the enlightened to understand.
Jacob, would you be able to put the stanza numbers in the description that you go over? By the way, I have a tactical Remington 870 for my home defense. I carry a knife with me, legally of course. I just find a knife is a lot easier to use in a confrontation than a gun. I have the mentality to use it on someone if I need to.
The dwarfs are admired by the gods cause they have the power to create all sorts of magical weapons if we think about it we are dwarfs that came here to experience our greatest joy. However We are dwarfs with consciousness and that is the challenge
once we have satisfaction we transform into light elves and go to vallhala if we have regrets we are reincarnated

"Carrying a weapon" could mean many things other that carrying an actual weapon.

Hail the Old God's. Our ancestors had walls or piles of weapons within an arm reach away. I dont go anywhere without my 9mm pistol and my pocket meat clever.
It's just good advice, really.
