    Aftermarket parts or modifications: This aspect of warranty coverage has a great deal of gray area. Although many dealers would have you think otherwise, simply having an aftermarket part or modifying your vehicle cannot void your warranty.
    Some dealerships may say, for example, that just because you have a performance part such as a cold air intake on the car that the whole vehicle warranty is void, says Loren Wong, a car enthusiast and a former warranty administrator for BMW and Acura. "That's not true," he says.
    The saving grace for consumers is the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975. The act states that a dealer must prove that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before it can deny warranty coverage.
    However, if the reason for a parts failure is unclear, a dealer will usually charge you to diagnose the vehicle. If the aftermarket part was not properly installed or a modification led to a component failure, it is within the dealer's right to void the warranty for that part, and you will have to pay for the repairs out of pocket. If the aftermarket parts had nothing to do with the repairs in question, you will be refunded the fee for the diagnosis.

      Exactly on point!!! Magnuson Moss Warranty Act...The majority of people don't know about it. This is what stops them from modifying any car or truck. But you are protected by a Federal Law. Everyone should read about this or look into it if you are worried about your warranty being voided! And Kudos to Mark Siemens for pointing this out!!! Thank You for that! ;)

    What I don’t understand is that the stock tubing on the Cruze is a rubber hose and it goes directly to the housing of the turbo but on the sonic 1.4 t has the same engine the turbos location is on the same area but has some hard plastic tube around it then finished off with the rubber tubing my concern is wouldn’t the rubber melt on the turbo housing ? Why did the manufacturer not look into this or is it something different but I’ve definitely noticed these two things in my research

    Time for a tune...I recommend BNR's tuning service. EFI Live handheld and a custom tune for your car. A little pricey, but you'll be looking at over 170whp and over 200wtq. And of course, if you can keep your foot off the accelerator, you can still maintain or possibly improve fuel economy as well.

    are you running 91 octane through it? GM did a actual notice that they recommend 91 octane for the engine. I get a nice little mpg increase running it. Then blending in a bit of torco accelerator bringing it to around 95...man does the little turbo love it. The ECU has to recalibrate when I run the torco its pretty fun.

    I work at an O'Reilly dealership in service. I see this all the time on camaro's corvette's and the cruze k&n filters are great for older cars however for new cars they are not the filters are oil soaked and that causes the air flow sensor to go bad and the map sensor to foul out no filter will void your warranty you just have to pay out of pocket for the damage the filter caused I would recommend k&n piping with a different filter an you'll be fine

    • @jamesk142
      @jamesk142 9 лет назад +8

      Nick McDaniel no K&N air filter will void your warranty truth be told the newer model camaro's and corvettes COME with K&N air filters already installed on them. How bout you dont lead people on to thinking you know what you're talking about because you work at a parts store. you do realize there are O2 or what you like to call airflow sensors in your exhaust and your engine along with the filter. Learn something.

      Yeah, shocked to see that they are using an oiled cotton filter media for this -- better off buying the AEM part, it's nearly identical except it uses an oil free filter media. Chevrolet Performance also makes a pretty cool intake for these cars, but it's a bit overpriced imo

  • @Alexander-ip1vm
    @Alexander-ip1vm 10 лет назад

    I have a couple questions if you're not busy, what did you do with the hose connecting to the original intake? It's small and you pop it off kind of under the intake, and my mpg went down, after resetting and all, and it also never shifts on its own and idles bad.. (auto)

    • @elmomz
      @elmomz 9 лет назад

      Alexander Santana the hose is a drain tube for the condensated air which is only needed if a airbox is used.
      when an K&N Airfilter (open) is installed you don´t need to reinstall the drain tube...
      if an oiled filter is used, the maf and even the mpg get damaged / or the sensor reports faulty data.
      -> just wash the filter out or use an oil-free Filter,
      after 100-200 miles, the ecu will work fine with the new filter!

Also have you had issues with heavy rain or for that matter car washes?

    • @pearsonba350
      @pearsonba350  9 лет назад

      Aaron Caniglia I have noticed on warmer days the car runs a bit different. Cooler air is more dense, which an engine really likes. Warmer air has more humidity in it, which can affect a motor's performance. My mileage drops a little on warmer days, too. Mine seems to be happiest when it's about 55 outside. And I've had no issues at all with rain, and I always hand wash my cars, and no issues there, either.

    • @pearsonba350
      @pearsonba350  9 лет назад

      Aaron Caniglia Honestly, I would just leave it in. I noticed the lag issue even without the cold air intake on warmer days. I think the main issue is that the engine is small, and it notices the changes in the climate more. Just drive it and enjoy it. Do all the regular maintenance, and you'll probably get many years out of it. I'm shooting for 20 years, or 200,000 miles out of mine before I replace it...

      I put this on when the car was only a few weeks old, so I never really got a good baseline on my mileage. But I recently did a 300 mile run on the freeway, and averaged 45 MPG for the trip. The window sticker says she's supposed to give me 38 on the highway...

      Just the cold air system. I have since added a Flowmaster exhaust, as well.

      pearsonba350 have you had any issues since putting the intake on and how many miles have you had it on ?

    • @pearsonba350
      @pearsonba350  10 лет назад

      Aaron Caniglia No issues what so ever. I put the intake on with I think less than 1000 miles on the car, I'm now almost at 12,000. Runs great. If you do an oiled filter, check your mass air flow sensor for oil accumulation, and clean it if you find any. The oil will mess up the sensor. I checked mine after install, and didn't find any issues. K&N tends to over oil the new filters...

    • @aaroncaniglia8089

      Okay thanks for the input ! I'm worried about my dealer ship having a problem with it, but I heard you can contact chevy directly and have them talk it out with the dealer ship. I know this may be a lot to ask but if you could post if you ever have an issue with it that would be a lot of help because I think I'm going to wait untill my scheduled maintenance is up to try and put one on

    • @pearsonba350
      @pearsonba350  10 лет назад

      Aaron Caniglia Waiting would probably be the smart thing to do- but no one ever accused me of being smart! I talked to the service dept. when I bought mine, they said they didn't have any issues as long as I did it right, and checked for excess oil from the filter.

    • @pearsonba350
      @pearsonba350  10 лет назад +1

      ***** The dealer knows all about this install, and they have no issues at all with it. I was only told to keep an eye on the mass airflow sensor, as oiled filters sometimes come oiled a bit heavy, and that can mess up the sensor. So far, no issues at all, with over 5,000 miles on the car...

    • @hypeybeast8365
      @hypeybeast8365 7 лет назад +2

      Natas N the clicking noise is the purge valve. The dealer said it was normal but that's not the truth. I bought a new one for 25 bucks and replaced it. Ticking sound is gone now. I would recommend replacing it.

      Did you have any codes showing due to the clicking noise? Why should someone replace this part?

    • @hypeybeast8365
      @hypeybeast8365 7 лет назад +1

      je6769 no code will come up I did my own research and found myself what the problem was. Took it to my mechanic and they confirmed that the purge valve is going out. The part is super easy to replace and as soon as I replaced it the ticking sound never came back. Unfortunately it won't display a code unless it fully goes out. The dealer tried telling me it was normal. Even if it was normal I can't stand when my car makes unusual sounds so I replaced it anyway. Do you know where the purge valve is located?

    What a colossal waste of money and i doubt you'll get the horse or torque increase they claim. Truth: if the factory intake is restrictive, it will allow more breathing, but in this day and age, the intake systems are adequate... you'd be better off just putting in a KNN insert filter in the stock air box. Tune it, you'll gain the most, but then have to rebuilt it when it destroys the junk 1.4L .... the computer doesn't necessarily "learn" that you put a cold air on it. It adapts, but doesn't know why ... a tune actually corrects it.

    Make sure you leave that crappy K&N filter when you take it to the dealer. They will void your warranty in a flash. Adding this filter only lets more dirt into the engine. If you can see through the filter like this one, what would you expect? The car isn't going to wheelie or get any more MPG. Only things the K&N does is allow more dirt into the engine and lighten your wallet.

      Gave me a 1.6 MPG increase on my 2013 1.4T Cruze and got a noticeable increase in power and a nice turbo sound from installing mine. and my Dealer 100% verified it will not void my warranty at all. I personally talked to the corporate warranty expert. Maybe research a bit before you tell people stuff you dont know.

    • @lightingMcCrab
      @lightingMcCrab 10 лет назад

      overclockedamd123 Yes and no. My dad is actually the central warranty manager for the central united states and it will only void your warranty if they can prove the filter caused the damage which he has done once that I'm aware of. He told me it was something about it not letting enough air flow so I'm sure the guy left it on forever and just never cleaned it or replaced the filter. I'm probably gonna get one of these for my 2014 cruze eco too though.
