You probably don’t remember me Paul but I was your student way back in 2005 before severe illness that became a disability stole the stage from me. I was always astounded at the clarinettist you were, and now the incredible composer as well as performer, along with your partner, that you are. This brought me to tears.
Found this recording by accident on RUclips. Excellent performance all around, but of special import to me as a bassist is the wonderful, clearly articulated bass playing and the fact that the bass is so excellently recorded. A pleasure to hear a job so well done in the bass register in a group setting. An additional pleasure is not having the usual distracting intrusions of a cameraman who uses the performance as mere background in order to show off the camera techniques learned in his film school correspondence course.
i just adore watching these beautiful people play - particularly Paul Dean......He looks as if any time he might fly off the chair and soar into the air, like a beautiful songbird.... He's so expressive and enthusiastic! They're all an exquisite pleasure to watch. As well as to hear. And thank you Paul for telling me what that instrument was (a bass clarinet); I never expected a reply, let alone one so prompt, and from Paul Dean himself.

Brilliant!! (i so love violin-clarinet dialogue in opening and throughout, simply love it..)
Octet eye contact. An art form in itself.
22:22 The absense of applause broke me.
It was too early tune in at 57:15. It will lift your heart.
