General rule is the larger the ship the more time you need to react. I use the 5, 10 and 15 second rule. This is how much time you should give yourself to react to things such as needing to turn to avoid hitting something or get a broadside. 5 seconds for the sloop. 10 for the brig and 15 for the galleon.

3:10 The S13 update changed this I’m pretty sure. Sails should be turned to catch as much wind as possible in the back of the sail

I would say either what you do, starting off the mission with a Raid voyage 🙂
