Skeleton orders can be good if you get them on a small island they will always be x marks the spot if you get them on a large island they will be riddles riddles not so great one treasure chest with random assorted loot that can be pretty terrible at times.
And the thing with the lanterns it's not that turning them off makes you harder to see it's more like turning them on makes you a lot easier to see and people who normally wouldn't have noticed you will notice you a lot sooner now

I was a bit worried about the community after reading some reviews. I bought the game two days ago, and have only had good experiences with other people. Someone helped me with the Kraken, I was boarded by someone and the left me a chest, and I had people come to my aid when I ran into an explosive barrel. This game has been nothing but fun, and you made it better.

My tips I used to give when teaching new players:
    1. Learn how to hold block, then simultaneously hold sword charge, then release both and jump to do the sword dash jump, this is the best way to jump off an island and get to your boat in seconds.
    2. Whenever you stop at an island have your anchor lifted and sails lifted so if you spot someone coming your way fast u can sword jump on and drop sails and start getting away, solo players have a tough time solo raising anchor.
    3. If you are seeing other ships, visiting ones other players were just at., or heading in the path of one, repeatedly check the front of your ship for someone in the water, or one on an island nearby waiting for you to stop.
    4. If you think someone might've snuck on board, run around and basically slash every brown barrel or dark area of the ship in case they are "tucked" there, which means they are basically emoted in the spot.
    5. If you are running from other players go into the wind, it has been proven that facing the wind is fastest on the smallest ship, but at the end of the day until you have more experience, as a solo player you won't outrun a galleon of experienced players.
    6. I know he says in the video lights aren't too big of a deal because a good player will still spot you... this is kind of true, in the past there have been issues with render distance where players hide on other sides of islands their lights still show for enemies because the island hasn't rendered in yet, only lights you ever want on are belowdecks ones.
    7. Keep loot down below, never store treasure on your deck, it will shine to other players, also if u have skulls, on the bottom floor of your sloop, there is a barrel in the center, but them on that barrel, if you put them on the bottom floor the green will glow outside the boat making it obvious you have valuables hidden inside.
Bonus Tips: If you are feeling good about your skill, keep kegs in the crow's nest (they can be found at any Fort, just look out for a skull in the sky), that way if an enemy galleon or brig comes after you, you can drop the kegs off of the back of your boat in the hope they run them over, this can be dangerous because if a player hits the deck of your boat with a fire bomb then it will set off kegs in the crow's nest.
Try to find friends whether it's the craziness of open queue or via a discord, having other players with you will teach you a lot of the ins and outs of the game.
Google videos for "Best Tuck Spots on sloops" , which will help you identify if someone has snuck on your boat.
If you are a solo console player id recommend going to settings and turning off crossplay, whilst console newbies are the most fun to mess with for PC players it is significantly more difficulty to sword-fight PC players because we can basically keep jumping over your head faster than your remote can turn.
If you are in fog and can't find other players or something else point the cannon straight up and shoot yourself out of it , it puts you above the fog and you can see everything, just get to a mermaid asap once you hit the water again.
You can harpoon the Megalodon when its at the front of your ship for its first passby to snag a ride, it will go way faster than wind will and it usually goes straight for at least a little bit.
If you are unlucky enough to be faced with a galleon or brig that is trying to broadside you, you can try to do what he does in the video and hit whoever on their cannons and knock out sails, another good one is hitting them with fireballs, the bigger the ship, the more annoying fire is to put out due to the layers, so they have to decide on neglecting it and letting it spread or getting off the cannons.
LASTLY, If your enemy is dressed in all black, or has any sort of ghostly glowing green on them.... run, get the hell out of wherever you are, because you have a 70/30 chance they are either experienced pirates ready to take everything you have or they are actually really nice and helpful and will try to show you parts of the game. and them being nice is rare usually.

For enemy types there are several other ones with their own quirks
Normal skeletons: Attack them in any way you want they dont have any quirks
Broken Skeletons: same as normal but way weaker they will die in like 3 sword hits
Shadow skeletons: Can be killed in daylight but shine a lantern on them when its night *when invincible you will notice they are kinda seethrough and you can go through them*
Gold skeletons: throw a bucket of water on them or lead them to water and then shoot them, they are way slower than other types so you can easily throw a firebomb at them
Plant skellies: slash them with your sword guns dont work as well on them, they also regenerate health in water/rain
FOTD Skeletons: You wont have to worry about those unless you are on a specific island and a specific player activated even is taking place they are same as shadow skellies but you have to shine specific light color on them depending on their own color
SPECIAL SKELLY: The ancient skeleton: this one very rarrely spawns on any island and gives you ancient coin, a currency you can only get from buying it with real money or getting them from the plunder pass you are at you will notice this sound of something going out of the ground and a noise similar to coins being shaken, locate this skeleton quickly (he is gold and blue and has a bag on his back) and attack it, the skellly will try to run away if it runs away for some amount of time it will go into the ground and disappear so quickly kill it,
there are some other skeletons that are just reskins of the standard white skeletons like white skeletons with some glowing bits
There are boss skeletons like the captains having just higher health having a name and captain clothes
and there are the skeleton lord/ashen lords which are actual bosses with multiple special attacks, really high health and more

    • @dovahkat9635
      @dovahkat9635 2 года назад +9

Fun fact/tip for gold skellies in particular, on some islands you might be forced to fight them away from any water source. In this case pack some bait to munch on to induce vomiting. Hold out your bucket to gather it and voila, rusty skeletons.

Good newbie tip is save your empty chests if you plan on playing for a long time. You can put all your loot in the chests and keep them on the front tip of your ship when you dock land near the vendors and then just drop the chests first then start selling the items. You can put the same 3 types of items in a chest and carry to specific vendors and sell all 3 at once. Saves alot of time imo.

On your first day in SoT, get in your boat, and sail around. Have fun just exploring the seas, seeing what the world looks like, and learning to pilot your ship. Be sure to enjoy the feeling of sailing for the first time as long as you can. Also, if you're being chased, head into a storm to try and lose them, it might work, it might not, but either way it's gonna make things harder for those chasing. I agree that some of the things the game has to offer are difficult for new players to handle, but I encourage everyone to try those things when they are ready--use gunpowder barrels, do the other world events, drop the anchor mid-combat, go to the Devil's Roar--just not yet.

I think the harshness of devils roar can actually help train a player faster to learn how to avoid volcanoes, where to park the ship, how to run and repair. Most of all those things, explore and have fun, its a pretty big game to explore all of it. Thank you.

On my first day in this awesome world of Pirates, Thieves, Wild waters and majestic beasts, I set sail with my friends on brygantine and started looking for treasures and money as every pirate, however we also met skeletons who tried to get into our way with their captain from hell. It wasn't easy at start but as they say teamwork makes the dreamwork. We managed to get as much loot as we could so we started sailing to nearest outpost. While we were looking at the amazing view of sunset, we saw that water started getting darker, the music appeared. It was legendary kraken that appeared out of nowhere, we didn't know what to do but we managed to use our gunpowder barrels to destroy this monstrocity. After we did it our barrel with planks was empty, we had to throw out the water all time, untill we arrived to Galeon's grave outpost... We managed to sell all the loot but then we realised that this outpost is called galeon's grave for some reason. Our ship was blocked between 2 rocks, we tought it was over for us... But then! We used our last gunpower barrel to push the ship back on the sea. With the money we had we bought planks and fixed ship. Sometime later my friends had to go, I ended up sailing alone in the middle of nowhere, then I took the flame grenades and set the ship on fire and went away to see the view. That was last thing that I saw at my first day in Sea of Thieves.....

I started playing the game about 1 month ago with a friend. We were both really new and had to learn the game first which we did really fast. We understood all events and that theres a difference between playing story voyages and others to level up the companys. We set our goal to reaching pirate legend with having in mind that it doesnt give us anything special but it was good thing to do. Now after 3 weeks me and my friend got the title of the pirate legend and were starting to just hang around on the seas and watch whats going on. So if you wanna start playing this game or just started just play and you'll understand a lot really fast.

I actually started this game blind about a year ago and honestly I don't think I would do it any other way. The game feels absolutely massive when you're a noob. My partner and I often kept to doing Gold Hoarder missions for the first week or two because we had no idea that you could spawn in different areas of the game (this in tandem with the fact that we only ever spawned on Sanctuary Outpost made us feel like the game was 5 times bigger than it actually is) learning everything one by one and figuring it out on my own was actually my favorite part.
I still learn of new things kind of just sifting through the achievements in the game's Pirate log and when we go to try and get those, we learn that the game has still more to offer aside from all the gold making, pvp, pve, etc.

Been having a hard time getting into Sea of Thieves (I'm a solo player, so hard mode), but I recently discovered that fortresses are fairly easy with a pretty decent payday. For those that are worried about losing the gold to another crew, fortresses are a decent option due to the lower time investment.

Just for leveling and coins. If you want a fun experience then definitely sail around and try out some of the other features because it will most definitely feel like a grind after a while.

On the topic of new players, I was teaching a swabbie the other day and we had quite an adventure.
So we started out with the basics: stocking the ship, checking the emissary tables, and surveying the horizon for world events. You know, basic stuff you should always do when you spawn. After we stocked the ship, I opted to take him to a Seafort, as I consider them to be the most basic sea of thieves experience you can get that teaches you the fundamentals. Shoot enemy, kill boss, get key, open vault, load loot, and sell at outpost. It all went very smoothly, however things got interesting when halfway through selling what we got, we got server migrated into a sever with several reapers emissaries in it. I'm all for PvP of course, but my swabbie friend knew of the fearsome reapers, and politely ask that we server hop to avoid them. After a quick hop, we found ourselves in another server, only this one had an ashen lord active! Feeling bold, my swabbie friend asked to do it, and we did. however there was already a boat there when we arrived, which was a perfect opportunity to teach him how to fight in a real player on player scenario! We fought the ship relentlessly, and found ourselves victorious (mostly due to warden chi deciding that their boat needed a few rocks hucked at it, admittedly...) and claimed the ashen lord for ourselves! They'd already done a good chunk of damage for us, leaving the boss in phase 3 already. But as fate would have it, this ashen lord was a hotspot of activity! A galleon pulled up, seeking to steal our hard earned ashen lord! My friend, opting for staying on the boat, decided to stay on the ship and kite the galleon around the island whilst I dealt with Chi. However, it seems the galleon had a similar plan and sent one of their own. Now dealing with Chi and a double gunning sweat, I needed to finish her off quickly before things got too hairy. Deftly avoiding the double gunner and abusing my sword, I managed to kill him, and then Chi. Thinking quickly, I buried the skull and returned to the ship. Strangely though, the galleon didn't seem too keen on chasing. As it turns out, the sloop from before that we'd sunk had come back for a revenge play, only to be met with the galleon! We sailed out, Waiting for the chaos to settle so we could sneakily retrieve the skull. But once again, fate had other plans! Right behind us, a brigantine was doing legend of the veil! and we'd parked perfectly just out of their view behind some rocks, meaning we had the advantage of them not knowing we were there! They'd even almost finished it, meaning we could swim onto the final bastion and hide on it until they finished. And we did! We yoinked the athena before they even knew what happened, and swam it back to the boat. I'd even heard one of them remark "isn't there supposed to be an athena?" as we swam away! We sold the athena, but unfortunately during our little heist, the galleon had found where I buried the skull and got it. Very unlucky, but the entire thing was a great learning experience for him. Sea of Thieves is a simple game with simple mechanics, however chaos can ensue at any moment and make everything complicated. A valuable lesson for any swabbie to learn! Anywho, after the whole sequence of events, it had gotten late, and we both logged off for some much needed rest.

I'm a bit nervous getting back into SoT, I played back when it came out for about 1 year or so. I only had one other friend play it with me, but whenever I was solo and out island hopping I would always get pursued for literal hours (2-3) and I got fed up with it since I'm not a PvP player. I would also lose a lot of loot too due to persistent players and it just became a sailing sim at some points.

Another thing you might see later when playing the game is different phrases in PvP such as
Backtrack- you missed but the hit detection counts it as a hit
Sandbag/oneball- you killed someone with a cannonball
Hitreg- you hit someone but it does no damage (rare please fix this it's been years)
Nosing- meaning a ship is sailing towards your broad give you an opportunity for chaining their masts

when you get into a fight like the first one you saw in this video take down the masts and keep them down, shoot holes into the hull and then shoot blunderbombs at the canons until they stop shooting you after that focus shooting more holes on the hull and mix in more blunderbombs because if you hit someone behind the wall with a blunderbomb they will get knockback and it will cancel the repairs.

On the topic of new ships: I believe a way the devs could implement new ships without drastically changing the game is adding variants to each ship. For example the brig, they can bring in a 3 manned ‘Junk’ that has bow and stern cannons instead of broadside and is fastest in cross winds.
Or maybe for the sloop they can add another 2 man ship the ‘flute’, which on spawn has barrels that are stocked with supplies, it isn’t particularly the fastest in any category but it has gunpowder barrels/fire barrels that can be thrown off the back to deter chasers

Another tip for ashen lord: go find a nearby treasury , dive and grab about 6+/- tridents (there's at least 10 usually) and use those vs the boss, the aoe oneshots skeletons and does enormous damage to the boss, my friend and I did this boss in under 5 minutes thanks to these things and even under 2 minutes as 4 people using tridents.
edit: tho we pretty much use these all the time if we intend to do fort of fortune, especially for the double skeleton lord & ashen lord wave , it helps speed up an already long event.

Also drop your anchor when you dock, but then pull up your sails and raise your anchor back. This way while you are docked if you see another player you can run back to your ship and quickly drop your sails to get away. Just make sure you point your ship to the ocean before hand so you can make a quicker get away.

I used to play a decent amount but got carried by people much more veteran at the game than me. However, I found one of the easiest ways to get money is to go to a island fort of the damned. They are super easy for the most part and usually get me around 1200 gold or so. As soon as you leave the fort, it resets so you can go right back after you sell at an outpost! They also are almost all very close to an outpost making it very easy to just keep hoping between fighting, looting and selling!
Tip: At the top of the tower, climb up above the bell and the ghosts can’t hit you with swords and rarely shoot when you are that high up. Then you just shoot them and drop down between waves to get ammo😂

fun little fact about the tutorial: If you go to the shipwreck on the island you can find yourself on a treasure hunt that will lead to you getting A lot of money, no spoilers, but trust me when i say its a lot.
also funnily enough my first voyage was for a tier one free hoarder quest that came from dagger tooth outpost but went very well, you see after getting the chest i grabbed one of those deliveries from 5:23 for an extra buck, then after handing in the chest while on route to the destination for the package I found some floating loot which included: a seafarer chest, multiple storage barrels and a gunpowder barrel which got me pretty good money.

Thank you so much for taking your time to make this video. I do have some constructive criticism: you make the cardinal sin of people who try to make beginner guides while forgetting what it's like knowing nothing about a game when _beginning._ For instance what's an outpost? How do you leave it? What's a lobby? How do you pick a new outpost and which one should you pick as a beginner? How does the server dictate that? What's a server?
To you these question will be annoyingly simple and self evident, to a beginner they are crucial and not at all clear.
