@@the_socialphobic_girlI was getting in the comments to say the same thing! They are the best!! A therapist & a film makers perspective, the best of both world
I think what I always laughed about with the Addam's Family is that even though they seem so abnormal and the kids are constantly trying to kill each other, they are actually one of the least dysfunctional of families on TV or in movies. Morticia and Gomez love one another, passionately. They listen to their children and allow them space. They allow them to make mistakes but then to also fix the mistakes themselves. And yet, if someone asks for help, it is always given, without limits. Truly, they are the best tv/movie family.
*I really want her to dive deep into the Roy family(Succession) dynamics analysing the role of each of the members and their influence on each other, the interactions between them is what I think makes the show more engaging than it already is*
Yes, the show gives us so much fascinating insight into each Roy’s relationship with their parents and their different siblings and how that affects their entire identity and actions. There’s endless material there.
Your comment perplexes me. How can their interactions make the show even better than it already is? Those interactions are literally part of the show, lol. Did you mean to say, that breaking down their exchanges would make the show even better than it already is? Or do you mean the interactions between them makes the show better then just the plot line alone?
@@signommi6660 not op but i read their comment as the writers adding the complex siblings dynamic & understanding it as viewers makes the show even better than just watching it on the surface or if it was just plot-focused
I screamed seeing Little Miss Sunshine as one of the movies!!! That’s my favorite movie and I’m so glad to see whoever chose it at Vanity Fair has good taste!! That’s the only scene in the movie that I sometimes have to skip because it’s so hard to watch.
I wish they hadn't used the scene where Wednesday says she wants to be normal, or had at least provided some context. Wednesday's putting on an act to get on the councilors' good side so that she can get back at them later. She's not expressing an authentic desire. Truly, Pubert (the baby) in that movie is the child to reference when talking about parents accepting their kids - because while Pubert is too young to truly be experimenting with his identity, Gomez and Morticia do have conversations about how to accept their "normal" baby and then do their best to go against what feels natural to them and provide Pubert with "normal" things.
Whenever I watch a video with her - whether on her own channel or as a guest on other popular channels - it is an absolute delight! She is amazing in her ability to get her point across!
To be fair. Thor has spent almost every movie giving Loki second chances. I think the elevator scene was just him finally relenting to his exhaustion and just letting Loki do what he thinks Loki wants to do. He’s tired of the mind games. He’s tired of being the one to give second chances. He’s tired of being the one shedding tears and mourning over someone he loves but who has repeatedly stabbed him in the back. He’s tired of dealing with the consequences of Lokis actions. He’s got a lot on his shoulders having to deal with one crazy older sibling trying to destroy Asgard. He didn’t have the energy to deal with another. Dudes tired man
such a great video! another show that would be interesting to analyze is the umbrella academy. it has soooo many family dynamics between the siblings, along with their individual childhood trauma.
Wow, this was so genuinely helpful and inspiring to watch. The part where she's reflecting on the movie INside Out (haven't even seen it) - that comment about how to ask open ended questions to get someone to open up naturally is SO BRILLIANT AND OBVIOUS. I can't wait to try it. Also, just everthing else...but for sure as well at the end when she talks about reflecting back before responding - that's suuuuuper helpful!
Please do more of these! Loved the therapist. So interesting to see when she talked about the clip of This is Us where I wouldn't even have assumed there is anything wrong there with therapist asking those questions and that it would have been better to have them be there one by one instead of everyone together. More please!
I would love to see her break down Riley's breakdown in Inside Out. It's such a beautiful scene of how to create a space where kids can be vulnerable, teach emotional intelligence, and navigate big emotions in a family. It's so beautiful.
I think anyone in a specified field with a lot of years and experience will look at something at a critical view, you should check Insider's " is it real?" Or something like that. You'll see that they can't help but look at movies and tv shows with a critical view even if they like the movie
I'm soooo excited that Vanity Fair did another video with Steph Anya. I love her. This was another great analysis video. She also looks lovely with her pink nails and makeup. I hope there are more videos to come in the future
I appreciate her view point.. but.. has she ever seen any of the Addams family? the show.. any of the live action movies.. any of the animated? 100% Wednesday already knows who she is, what she wants, and what she likes. For such a young woman, she is incredibly mature, intelligent, and insightful. Her family was incredibly nurturing and supportive, as the therapist noted, which is why Wednesday already knew who she was as an individual. she is simply manipulating those around her for revenge. However, I do appreciate that she seemed to put all the blame on Thor.. even though Loki has attempted to kill Thor several times, turned him into a snake (a creature that Thor feared), had him exiled, and betrayed him at least a dozen times. I can see that the therapist is very caring, insightful, and intelligent. She clearly knows more than I on the subject of family, and I agreed completely with her assessments of the other family units she reviewed.
One of the big problems in my family is that my sister and her partner are extremely conflict-avoidant, and while I try to give them time and space to be ready to talk about issues, if I waited for that then often they would often just completely repress things, and in the meantime the lack of resolution is causing me pain. It's extremely tough to balance our different needs.
Wait, you really think Wednesday meant she wanted to sing and dance and play Pocahontas in the play? The plan was to burn it down. Please. Do not come for the Addams Family.
I disagree. I believe Thor saying that - as I've said things like that to people - means that he has been led to believe that's what Loki actually wants based on Loki's actions. He says that as 1. because he's communicating to Loki that thats what Loki's actions have shown Thor. 2. Through that he's saying how hurtful Loki's actions have been 3. a small test to perhaps see through Loki's response if Loki either cares or argues against it. aka Thor is giving Loki an opportunity to tell him straight out if its true or not.
THANK YOU for explaining the problematic behavior of Kevin's therapist in This is Us. Seeing this seen made me angry because she was CLEARLY biased and wasn't approaching the session with an open-minded perspective at all... I understand Kevin is her client and all but feeding into his egotistical perspective made his ability to be in a healthy relationship worse. Thus, the chaos between Kevin and Randall ensued.
In all fairness, you can’t really apply relative family therapy techniques on gods who are more than a thousand years old, especially when one of them is the literal god of mischief who has openly admitted, in the MCU at least, to being a narcissist
