Greetings Yana120! Thank you very much for posting this recording! This is a wonderful version of Echoes, and has some really awesome movements. It would be interesting to listen to this recording, the Live in Pompeii recording, and the studio recording, all sequentially, each version has it’s own special charms. Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨
PF fan since 1973 here. Why are you fighting? The whole is always greater than the sum of its parts. PF as a band accomplished things that the four of them could not have done as individuals. Just like the Beatles. Just relax and enjoy the best rock music ever made.
Shine on you crazy diamond had always been my top one favorite song. Now echoes moved to the number one spot!! Just amazing!! Pure genius!! Love all 5 guys including Syd!
Of the cathedral of music created by the Floyd, Echoes is its Cupola, it's East, West, North and South. Everything runs up to or flows from this. The strength of Echoes is demonstrated by the fact all the petty little arguments taking place around it don't matter in the least. It's one of the great pieces of music of the XXth Century.
My second favorite Pink Floyd song with Fearless being the first. I prefer this era of Pink Floyd before it moved into gloomier areas and only marginally returned to this spacey vein with Wish You Here but it too has that dark cloud hovering overhead. I prefer the period just after Syd Barrett left the group in the late 60's to the early 70's just before Dark Side. I like to call the music they made at this time psychedelic folk and stil some degree of lightness and hope. The concept album sort eliminated that freestyle music of Obscured By Clouds, More, Meddle, and even Atom Heart Mother. It became too rigid as the years progressed. Here we have a band really at top form. I envy anyone in the audience at that moment who got to see this performed live. I imagine it was a small intimate studio setting so one actually got to see the band. It had to be amazing. One could hear a pin drop as the song played. I sometimes say I wish Pink Floyd would reunite for oe more album or another tour but it would the gloomy Flyod and not the pastoral spacey Floyd that I wish were resurrected. Well, we'll always have Pompeii.
absolutely mindblowing. this piece is one of the first Pink Floyd works I've ever heard, as an edited mix in this bootleg pf-roio.de/roio/roio-cd/pink_floyd_live_11.cd.html. I was about 10 or 11.
My Favorite Version Of Echoes Hands Down The Trippy Effect That David Dose In The Middle Of The Song Just Makes The Hair On The Back Of My Neck Stand Up. Yeah And Buddy Hateing On Roger Waters What A Joke He May Not Be The Best Bass Player In The World And Made A Mistake By Spitting On That Guy But If It Wasent For That The Wall Would Not Have Happened. But As A Song Writer I'd Put Him In The Top Ten Him And Wright Are My Favorite Floyds.
@fotiny2310 the original is in the album meddle and Rick and David sing there. I'm not putting down your opinion(although I'm not so keen of Waters i prefer the rest) I'm just saying that this song isn't the best example for Rogers abilities...
Thank God for the internet. David Gilmour ... there is nothing better than the trademarked Gilmour Frustrated Screaming Alien Funk. It heralds the coming of the catalytic black monoliths.
Like many others, I am a massive Floyd fan and have been for 30yrs +. I'm still in shock that I've never come across this masterpiece before! Question, can you buy this version on CD?
This reply is probably nine years too late but if you search for ‘Harvested Pink Floyd BBC Archives’ I’m sure you can find a copy to download. These sets where a labor of love of the group so definitely don’t pay for them; they where meant to be enjoyed for free.
@phildd0t Funny you should assume this, Live at Pompeii is my cult concert movie. I'm not criticizing the sound itself ("Hey Rog look at this I plugged me fuzz pedal the wrong way round!"), but it's too damn long IMO.
This is probably the best song that was ever created, but I wish Gilmour had never found that useless seagull gimmick...take that section out and it's perfect!
Sorry but.. Who wrote Money (Dark side of the moon 1973)? Who Wrote Julia Dream (1969)? Who wrote Brain Damagew/Eclipse (Dark side of the Moon 1973)? Who wrote Welcome to the machine & Have a Cigar (Both on Wish you were here 1975)? Who Wrote Pigs, Sheep & Pigs on the wings (Animals 1977)? Who wrote Free Four (Obscured By Clouds 1972) Who wrote Let there be more light, Set the controls..... (A saucerful of secrets 1968)? Who wrote San Tropez (Meddle 1971)? Who wrote If (Atom heart mother 1970)?
Ah, the era when Pink Floyd made truly great music...Then Waters left the band and PF lost most of it's magic... This version of Echoes is so much better than the album version. I listened to the album version right after I listened to this, and it was really boring in comparison...
Well, in my personal point of view they had lost most of their magic already long before Waters' departure. And I also don't agree completely to what you say about the album version. I like this BBC recording very much, and the Pompei one as well, but the 'Meddle' version is also a very good one, particularly for its excellent guitar playing and the beautiful outro.
this is the definitive version, surely. everyone who likes music should hear this.
An extraordinarily good number.
Love the sublime understatement

Nice version! One of the best.
the silence at the very end before the applause is the icing on the cake.
The best version of this song I've heard is the version on live at Pompeii. That is THE definitive version
Best 30 minutes of a day spent... every day!

Brilliant.
Wish I could !
David Gilmores version of Echoes from the Live at Gdansk album has to be the best version of this! Just before Richard Wright passed away!
It too a couple decades for Dave to get the lyrics right! 6:12

@fotiny2310 David and Richard wrote composed and sung in this song the only thing Roger contributed was playing the bass....

Shitted my pants @ 14:25
20:53 Éxtasis
Pink Floyd & Camel are two sides of one coin

@fotiny2310 Actually yes, I am.... Why do you ask?
@quaark123456 Roger Waters wrote the lyrics and Gilmour, Wright, Mason and Waters wrote musics. Gilmour & wright sung this song.
echoes are heard not seen
this band has a good future.....haha
its a shame eddy hazel had to leave the floyd
