What I cannot fathom is how Pink Floyd always play in such musical synchronicity, each member is a master of their own instrument. And all equally contribute in creating this unwordly atmosphere within their music. This is precisely why they are the greatest band in the history of rock and roll.
Funny thing is…only David was extraordinary in his primary instrument. However, the other 3 knew their limitations but even better, knew how to incorporate their craft into a magical mesh with the other members
Roger is not really a great bassist. He admitted that Dave plays the bass lines in many of the studio cuts, and there's the slight problem of his being tone-deaf and thus not always being able to tell when his bass would go out of tune on stage. If he noticed, he'd have Rick tune it, if he didn't, Dave would come over and tune it for him.
I couldn't agree more, though the "Echoes Part 1" from Live at Pompeii is what I always think of, or any number of incredible live performances like this. That bass line during the "Funk Movement" makes all the difference in the world. I definitely prefer live versions of Echoes over the Studio version for this reason alone. It's only a few extra notes, but goddamn it makes that section SO MUCH FUNKIER! It's my favourite piece of music ever created. -

t18amgr Second chorus. Should be “no one speaks and no one tries.” Gilmour sings “something speaks and something tries.” And then it sounded like he was trying to correct himself in the last line of the chorus “no one flies around the sun” but didn’t quite get it.
. Original: "no on speaks and no one tries" to: "something speaks and something tries" as in technology AI starting to "speak".. Humans have lost. And the next part he says "no one flies around the sun" as in the great deception of governments not really spending money on exploration, but instead on the "something" that is consuming our humanity.. Technology. The original lyrics are "deep", but the rearranged lyric work just as well and in my opinion are even deeper.
This is probably the best song ever made

The “funky movement” of Echoes is the greatest 4 minutes in the history of music.
