Best "unique" description of the psychedelic experience I've heard in a long time. Not sure where Jordan was saying he read that or if he broke it down himself, but he nailed it. From where he was talking about the JRE sign for anyone wondering which part. I'm starting to wonder if "expanding your mind" wasn't just a neat way to describe how psychedelics really work. I've seen recently how brain scans of people on psilocybin mushrooms show an explosion of new connections in the brain, which might explain that feeling of profound understanding, which leaves you with nothing tangible afterwards, other than maybe a new insight into a problem afterwards. Just a renewed sense of connection with the world.
That is why EGO is very important too. It helps you draw the line and helps you to ground yourself. Sure psychedelics are good and give you insight, shows you on the needed changes, helps anxiety and depression, but ego helps you analyze and set boundaries when its needed...
anxiety is what helps you analyze and set boundries. ego is the opposite. it makes you confident in yourself, which, in turn, make others confident in you for some weird reason. People often mistake confidence for intelligence or adeptness, but its actually completely unrelated other than its tendency to convince others that youre right for that weird reason again.
@@scorch4299 I don't think you mean anxiety but more in regards to flight or fight response. Anxiety is an issue where you feel you are dying, over thinking, taking things too literal as a problem, etc according to the sx. A flight or fight response is when a situation is presented and a quick response is needed. While you're right, ego is confidence and can get out of hand if not controlled, setting boundaries is ego as well, as it is the response of thinking things through instead of jumping the ship because you feel like it. Think it as the brain and the heart. The heart sets no boundaries but the brain does. The heart loves but the brain makes sure to take it slow or see things in a 3rd perspective..
I've always thought that the notion how the ego is unhelpful and the enemy (a popular opinion in spiritual circles) is false. Ego is necessary. Without ego, I would not have the motivation to do anything. Whats your thoughts on that ?
@@hablabamosa ego is basically your personality, character, traits of what makes you. Its not entirely bad how some spiritual groups make it seem. Without it, we would not be here in the first place. "What a psychedlic does in part is remove the inhibition of memory from perception and that re-immerses you in the complex world" There's this video that changed my life. This guy named Jiddu Krishnamurti talks about this very thing that Jordan was talking about here. He says that if you remove everything you've ever thought of or experienced, your "ability to observe without judgement will become your highest form of intelligence" (JK). Here's the vid: ruclips.net/video/Tq1V7w2iUXg/видео.html
Thats, what we actually are -- but chose to forget, to hide from ourself. Below our hypercomplex interrelating layers of thought is that which knows them, is aware of them, like it is aware of the body in form of sensations. Its not the body which is aware -- it is awareness which is aware.
Right. It's actually a weirdly ironic quote, and I wonder if people are processing what they're upvoting. Still, I loved Peterson's psychedelic positivity in this clip. He also interviewed Dennis McKenna a month or two ago. Dennis has to be a little less than totally honest about his DMT experiences these days, though....

My friend tripped for the first time yesterday, and what JP describes is exactly what he experienced. He realized a lot about himself and about the world. "Beware of unearned wisdom" is such a wise quote.
We also use AD, BC most of the world, a lot of whom are atheists and Islamic…Bible is most popular book in the world, Christianity has the most diverse followers (USA, Africa, Asia etc etc) the reason it’s still around is because it’s the Truth. If you took some mushrooms, all the lies and bias would be stripped away and you’d see Reality
Ah yes ...the judges of the universe. We who believe out of nothing came everything; and get the rational out of the irrational....we who share a common ancestry with banana...our great grand daddy was wet rock... primordial soup, to be fancy. Accidental star dust. We hold the keys to reality and wisdom. Not some 2,000 year old fable upon which all of Wester civilization is built..no. our A-moral worldview is far superior...yes.
Thats so true how it removes memory how insightful to recognize that. Im not a crazy psych taker but ive taken em plenty and never really thought of it that way but now I see it.
The use of psychedelics by shamans wasn't a rejection at all, it was literally how they were able to channel such powerful wisdom and make observations about medicine and psychology that compete with modern medicine, it's just different everywhere. The indians, Sitting Bull had the best ganja, history just tells us it's "powerful medicine" he initially showed the american settlers.
I love you, Jordan Peterson. I am so glad I followed teachings starting at the young age of 16. Im 22 now, and prospering. And I’m sure, I’m just one of millions.
I think psychedelics should be taken more seriously. People really need to quit looking at it as a party drug and see it as something that can help humanity.

This is off the back of brian c. murareskus book "the immortality key" which JP wrote the foreword. It deep drives into the use of psychedelics in religion..15 hours worth of listening but worth it 👍👍
I think Joe said those thing on purpose because hes very smart, for a subtle reminding not to go down that road. And Jordan was instantly well aware of his hint. They both knew and in their minds agreed that they should be more careful about this. Very subtle stuff.
I've accessed places in the spiritual realm through deep prayer that I'd call "visions" that were so real to me that they were life changing- without taking exogenous substances to experience them, so I do think that there are organic ways to access the supernatural realm...and that's cool. But, I do believe I was also being drawn by an entity outside of myself to allow it to happen. That has made a believer outta me.
It is important for a lot of people to remember that psychedelics wouldnt work at all in our brains, if we hadnt already evolved the neurological "keyholes" and underlying circuits for the "lockpicks" of the drug molecules to open We had to evolve those circuits entirely on our own , for psychedelics to even remotely have a chance of neurologically opening them The best working argument we have as to how we evolved them, is thought to be that early hominds evolved the ability to enter altered states spontaneously as the result of autohypnosis or other trance inducing behavior via natural selection , and this was spread and conserved as part of wider selection for religiosity , both of which are very likely to be intertwined with both our propensity towards music, and creating strong social bonds through shared ideas and experiences Basically the monkeys who could make themselves feel funny around the fire by singing and dancing together, and who wanted to build culture around those shared experiences became us. Psychedelics came much much later
@@craigsurette3438 interesting hypothesis to consider, seems plausible in many respects, evolutionary neurobehavior development....another piece of the puzzle, thanks!

Hallucinations are a common side effect of starvation. I have always wondered if that biblical story about Moses seeing god in the burning bush might have been a side effect of his extended fasting at the time...
"Beware of unearned wisdom." Jordan Peterson reminds me of an art professor I had. The type of person who you might question because of their strange ways but eventually you learned these ways held depth, consideration and wisdom. Perhaps not always right but always profound.
Timothy Leary came into a dive bar we were at and sat down on a stool next to us. He had given a speech at the local college that evening and had just wandered on down the hill afterwards looking for a cold local micro brew and some relaxation. A few of our professors were into local mushrooms at the time and would often bring a jar of them to the same bar to share. Chill days!
Jbp the type of guy you ask “how’s it goin” and immediately blinks 22 times, chuckles for few seconds, sweats profusely, tears up, bites his lip and says “it’s going pretty..okay for now”
The Jacket Analysis: Think of the process Peterson underwent to present a "silent," two-sided, symbolic statement to Joe and his audience . His muted red and blue jacket may be a nod to American-pride, without leaning left or right. But look deeper. Peterson's business attire baseline is conservative. If anything, his style is more formal, and old-world. The man donning this silly jacket is fractured, and harbors more left-right mental mind fucks than many superior-minded people could manage.Since Peterson is so astute, with an emotionally-driven mind that's married to money, he's forced to repress his personal tug-of-war vernacular. Instead, he wears it on his sleeve. And his chest and back. This jacket serves is his reminder that his distant torment and daily conflict must be presented in a controlled fashion, even if what's underneath is melting.
What's funny is that I started this podcast and I couldn't pay attention to my work. It dawned on me that my room was a mess so I spent 4 hours cleaning my room while listening to this, completely forgot that, that is one of Peterson's life advice is to clean your room.

Lol you obviously haven't done them then

@@Ryan88881 do you get off on laughing at obvious things or something?
@@snakejazz Pretty sure OP didn't realize how obvious it was so yes I think that's funny.
I’m convinced some of the best music in history was created on some of this stuff.
Too much ego tho allows arrogance, bad behavior, all the bad shit in your life. I would say, keep it in check, and you should be fine. We are all living a human experience..

Immediately headed to the "other platform" to listen to these two, but not all of my favorite minds, and their fascinating conversation exchange. I never tire of listening/watching to either man. With much appreciation!
"Turn on, tune in, drop out" did not mean wandering around like stoned hippies at a love-in. It meant, seeking answers, observing carefully and questioning everything.

Dr P is one of my most favourite people- I soak everything up like a sponge- a beautiful human with so much integrity
I think psychedelics should be taken more seriously. People really need to quit looking at it as a party drug and see it as something that can help humanity.
I can't find a source anywhere for any good psychedelics in my area. I suffer some pretty bad anxiety and i got a chance to try K and man it was a miracle substance, I felt free, the only high or euphoria was from the relief of my vices being released, that's exactly what it did

And maybe even himself
Tought the same thing
They were exchanging passive aggressive insults. :)
It is important for a lot of people to remember that psychedelics wouldnt work at all in our brains, if we hadnt already evolved the neurological "keyholes" and underlying circuits for the "lockpicks" of the drug molecules to open
We had to evolve those circuits entirely on our own , for psychedelics to even remotely have a chance of neurologically opening them
The best working argument we have as to how we evolved them, is thought to be that early hominds evolved the ability to enter altered states spontaneously as the result of autohypnosis or other trance inducing behavior via natural selection , and this was spread and conserved as part of wider selection for religiosity , both of which are very likely to be intertwined with both our propensity towards music, and creating strong social bonds through shared ideas and experiences
Basically the monkeys who could make themselves feel funny around the fire by singing and dancing together, and who wanted to build culture around those shared experiences became us.
Psychedelics came much much later
@@craigsurette3438 interesting hypothesis to consider, seems plausible in many respects, evolutionary neurobehavior development....another piece of the puzzle, thanks!

Insightful.
