People! We definitely need a time machine here!!! I want to go back and live some time on the 20's, too!!! Awwwww! Lovely fashion, dance, songs, fun... :D
They were simply more talented in every way than we are today. Don't forget that many of this people were born in the late '90 of the 19th Century. The century of the most intelligent people that ever had lived.
lyrics: lovers admit there's aid in a clever line yesterday night I stayed in, laboring hard at mine I prepared I love song really rather neat calling this above song my sweeter than sweet I can rack my brain now as our glances meet just a line remains now my sweeter than sweet and if I ever lose you all my dreams are wrecked you mean the world to me or words to that effect love songs very few are quite so incomplete main thing is that you are my sweeter than sweet
Absolutely love it. My son in law collects vinyl and has several thousand recordings and fantastic equipment but unfortunately totally different musical taste and I only get to hear these treats through channels such as yours.
Thanks kspm - I've just found YT posts of versions by Leo Reisman, Sammy Fain (the composer) and an extraordinary 1929 film clip from GoodOldDays with a John Cleese lookalike appearance! I'm sure there must have been other versions too - it's such a good tune.
You may be interested to know the back ground to this particular musical arrangement. It is by Mr. Walter Paul; band picks up the eight bar introduction to the chorus theme. Move on to the modulation before the vocal; a 'special' chorus written by or for the band introducing free dance-band jazzing players just having musical liberty allowing their fingers to dance about with out syncopation, time then space. Returning to the music for a chorus, ending with a second section of 'special'. Top of their profession. The unrecorded introduction and first chorus would have made a ten inch seventy eight rpm record over-run the three minute limit.
Never heard of Elmer Grosso but this jolly number is somehow familiar - others must have recorded it. The thighs were somehow familiar too - they both stirred happy memories! Many thanks.
Thank you for the lovely montage. I was definately born in the wrong time. I could have been so happy as a twenties; thirties girl. Think Dorothy Parker. Anyone else feel like this? Just curious.
me nan was 26 then rest in peace nan bet you had a great but tough time .........and grandad who worked at westminster abbey and helped save it in the 2nd world war by throwing the incendries away off the roof and cooked for the staff
@SilverscreenRN yes! feel this way all to often. there doesn't seem to be any room for natural creativity unless dollar bill is attached. folks don't like it if you live too free.
@SilverscreenRN aside from the girl part, i definatly feel like i was born in the wrong era. lol if only there was away to go to the time we specifically relate to and see how life would have been in that time. *sigh* if only huh?
@GeminiNightOwl Hmmm I don't think you want that. People always want to go back to some time long ago and think they will love it... They wouldn't they'd go crazy. You want to go back to the 1920s, so lets revoke everything that wasn't out in the 1920s that includes the device you used to listen to this very song
look at the girl @1:18-1:28 didnt they shave their armpits back then or was that just a cast of a shadow? nice video by the way just wanted to point that out
A great song bringing back many happy memories.
I've had a copy of the original Champion 78 in my collection for many years. It is still one of my favorite records.
Magnificent music for dancing in this 2023

So true

I love the pictures - very stylish and evocative of the era.
The mind reels at how much music was produced in the 1920's and 1930's! What an era!
They were simply more talented in every way than we are today. Don't forget that many of this people were born in the late '90 of the 19th Century. The century of the most intelligent people that ever had lived.
Great song, and nice pics (mostly!) of elegant ladies from an age of elegance.
Thank you for sharing.
Great sounding band
so beautifully, the fashion that time... The women looked so - glamourous.....
From the movie SWEETIE, with Helen Kane & Jack Oakie
Such a jaunty lil tune! ☺

lyrics:
lovers admit there's aid in a clever line
yesterday night I stayed in, laboring hard at mine
I prepared I love song
really rather neat
calling this above song
my sweeter than sweet
I can rack my brain now
as our glances meet
just a line remains now
my sweeter than sweet
and if I ever lose you all my dreams are wrecked
you mean the world to me or words to that effect
love songs very few are
quite so incomplete
main thing is that you are
my sweeter than sweet

Great sound for a Champion.

Indeed! What a time Mr. Capone had!

Everybody's Nan was once a smokin' hot flapper, Wes. She wasn't born always knitting socks in her rocking chair, you know.
Why am I so into this !!!! leojleoj
I made it a favorite,5*
This is such an outstanding recording until Irving Kaufman's vocal shows up!
.Gregorz, you have a great collection of interesting photographs.
Bigband Lou The singer is definitely not Kaufman.
+Bigband Lou Maybe it's his brother Jack!
I wondered the same thing.
2:30 et seq. -- There's nothing these days that is remotely as hot as this was in its time. [full stop]
Ha ha. I don't find her hips particularly risque, but you'd better put a chain around that "bad boy" hand. Thanks for the lively song and the call.

This may be a European pic as they didn't shave into the 1980's.
Thanks again
